The Story

The Childhood:
Her father; Emerald Finder, was a famous Gemologist/Botanist and scientist. He spent hours, upon hours working in his study. He said he would find the greatest thing in the whole universe of Equestria. Until. . .he passed on. Finder never made that promise come true, and Topaz was torn apart. \/"Daddy?" Topaz mumbled, to her father; who laid in the hospital bed. "Will you make it?" Emerald Finder smiled at his filly, "Topaz... You will follow in my hoof steps, to find the greatest thing In the world... and... live up...to..." he closed his eyes. "Daddy? Live up to what? Dad?" Topaz didn't cry, but she stood there, laying her head on the side of the bed. "I will, Daddy... I will..." she whispered.\/ On her 13th birthday, her mother saved up enough bits to get her filly a Topaz. The mare smiled, and hugged her mother, as the gift was unwrapped. It instantly brought the memories of her Dad. /\The wrapping paper was torn as from the sound, and the gem was help up, it was a brilliant orange, streaks of red visible. "Mom! I love it!" Topaz squealed, and hugged her mother. She held the gem and it was brought back... |"You will follow in my hoof steps..."|/\

The Cutie mark:
Topaz slipped the lab coat on. Or, tried to, it was too big for her tiny filly body. She giggled, "Ha, Ma! I'm gonna be a Gemologerist someday!" Her mother; Flower Rain, chuckled. "It's Gemologist, my little scientist. The small filly laughed. Out the window, was a small field, with some rocks, and long grass. "I'll be outside, ma!" Topaz said, trotting out the door. The grass was pushed back as her tiny body made it through the field. Stumbling upon a small pile of dirt, this adventurous (and curios), little filly began to dig at it, and dig, and dig... until a small gem was found, a shard of a Fire Gem. Topaz had found her first gem. She kept digging, and found a whole cluster of Fire Gems! The filly dragged the gems up, and showed them to her mother when she got back. A burning sensation upon her light cream flank, and the cutie mark was there. A fire, with a purple like gem at the bottom, like if the fire was resting on the gem. It was her cutie mark; her destiny... to find gems.

Gemology, an art. Gems, thousands. Who thought there were so many? Well, this exam briefly states about these type of gems.

Zyntite: A bright blue gem, it's chemicals housed in it, can even cause rock to (over time) transform into lava! It had a blue shine, and glow. You can easily spot it around anywhere in the deepest Gem Mine. It's Rarity is: 7/10. (I've found only four on my recent discoveries.)

Crytite: A green radioactive jewel. It can cause plants to decay over time, maybe even a few minutes (if left sitting for a while). It doesn't kill Pony folk, but it can make you extremely sick, Hay Fever, Green Nose, etc. I'd recommend only staying to study this green hazardous jewel, then leave. It's Rarity is: 6/10 (I found 3 on my other discoveries.)

Mintite: Like a diamond, but tough as hooves! Throw it at the rock hard ground, it won't break, but it will scratch. I don't recommend always throwing it around. It is so unbelievably rare... Well, I'll say it's Rarity. 2/10 (I've found one on my last discovery.)

Rytite: Like Rubies, but it can light on fire. One licking flame can set it on the most violent blaze. These gems can be found in clusters underground, they're not that rare. They make excellent jewelry, until you bring it towards flame. (Which I would never do.) These Ruby-like gems are beautiful, and can be gifted, too. Rarity: 10/10 (They're the most common.)

Gryfite: It looks like purple crystals, but it is actually a rock-gem! They can be found in blocky-like clusters near Rytite. These are the second most common. They can be made into jewelry, or placed in a garden! It doesn't wear out from weather, it stays nice and shiny the whole time of its rock-gem life! Rarity: 9/10 (Second most common.)

This was my essay on Gemology, once more! I've come to the conclusion that: Gemology only isn't only fun, but is a great way to get out of the house, but be careful when you're looking for gems. You can/or will get injured if not careful!

I like her a lot. I think her dad dying in the beginning was a little much - she could've still wanted to be like her father without him dying - but the way she got her cutie mark was perfect.

She's looking for something subjective. Then again, that'll make it all the easier to find, but my intuition is telling me the greatest thing on Equestria is not a gem of any sort.

Um... when she was digging for gems... and actually found a lot of them, was there by chance any method to her digging? Or was she just randomly digging and get lucky (which I really hope wasn't the case)?

I love it!
I don't really know why. It's perfect. Especially the layout for the info. (I'm kinda obsessed with organizing OC pages.)
But, maybe it's a little bit too perfect... 
She is an archer, gemologist, botanist and a writer...but anyway those are cool hobbies so it's okay.
And I envy you, I wish I could have taken in game pictures
