wow really? Most of those chars in that are black aren't just copiers but were originally created by their creator so there for it is original. However, it's good to check to see what's popular among st ocs to go against the status quo. However u must respect everypony's imagination.

to be honest, "red/dark color schemed alicorn with a dark past" is so common as to be trite and cliche now.  Seriously.  Now I can respect somepony's lack of imagination when choosing colors and backstories, but I won't be complimenting them on awesome creativity if I see something that is obviously either in its beginning stages or completely lacking in originality.

If I "create an OC" that is purple with dark hair and has a backstory almost identical to your OC but with the names changed around, is that "original"?  Because it's technically "originally created by its creator".  That doesn't change the fact that the story and theme has been used before.  And if many ponies use the same theme and story, it becomes cliche, unoriginal, and to be honest poor form.

And if somepony ASKS for criticism, I'm very well going to be giving it, and more besides.  It will hopefully be HELPFUL criticism, and I would try not to insult their intelligence at all, but it WILL be criticism, along with suggestions for improvement.

Where I come from, we call these "Mary Sue Alicorns". The red and black is the standard color-set for these. So, yea, its all of the above.

problem with the "screw the rules I make them" mentality, the "must be perfect" mentality, or both?

Especially when (some) moderators are extremely stingy with the rules on this forum.

actually Im the stingy one I will bring ANYTHING that is even able to be CONSIDERED outside the rules to their attention and then logically explain why its against the rules in EXTREME detail I dont let the mods let anything slide.
