Hello.

My name is not Dave. It's Richard. I'm the forum admin, help run the web host that this site sits on, and work in the Web, PR and Music teams. It's quite likely that you've not seen me much unless you're part of the dev-team or have seen one of the songs I've written for the game on youtube or soundcloud.

My previous intro thread seems to have gone on strike for better work and conditions, so here's another.

If you're after listening to (or downloading even) any of the songs I've composed you can hop over to soundcloud at http://www.soundcloud.com/asteconn/

I'm free for being asked stuff if you're curious too.

Shadows are nice. You should see my office. I'll take a photo once I've cleaned the place up some. It's nice and dark in there.

I'm a professional web developer! http://www.latech.co.uk/ So even when I'm not fixing bugs (or causing them), I'm fixing bugs (or causing them). If I'd have charged LoE for my services so far the folks would have gotten a bill for around £1000 or so (as a guestimate). But I haven't, because I'm nice like that.

Most odd - thanks for the heads up. I'm self employed.

I've been around since LoE's inception, yes. And Equestria Online before that. And Equestria Chronicles before that too.

what's the strangest bug you've ever fixed?

The strangest? That's a legitimately tough call actually. Most of the bugs I need to fix are pretty dull affairs - things like an end-of-line missing or an unclosed HTML tag. Most of the really weird things come from broken CSS.

Programming languages: PHP is the one that I deal with almost exclusively. I have a preference for it also - I can generally deal with PHP.

If we count markup as well, then it's CSS; especially when I've developing an adaptive site.

Pipkin

I could never wrap my head around PHP, which makes being a site admin kinda difficult at times...

Perhaps I should read into it a bit more it just looks really complicated compared to HTML/CSS and VB

The Wandering Magus

did you learn programming by yourself as a hobby?  did you ever take formal classes?

At it's most basic PHP is blissfully easy.

Initially I started off using server side includes (SSI):
<?php include("a-file.php");?>

It's a great way to use repeating content across an entire site - such as menus and the like.
