I should add one or two (not three, that'll be too many characters for me to handle atm ) of the foals to the story as Naura's little companion, which one would make the best?

Hyper; Stubborn, smart, loyal, a little too honest (like if someone cooks him something that tastes terrible he will say not hesitate to say it) and will probably be a jerk to Naura and ponies who treat him anyway he finds rude; Will be a little annoying but helpful.

Grace; Quick, like to tease and disturb ponies (like just one of those simple money-on-thread teases) air-head, atlethic, dramatic; Will probably cause a lot of trouble and messes.

Syringa: Caring, quiet, disciplined, genius; Will come up with new things here and there and listen to anypony who got her respect, and perform any opinion that is not against someone else's opinion.

I feel like I should be excited for the steampunk idea but I'm just sort of...okay with it. I don't really know much about steampunk so maybe that's why.

What do you mean? Is she supposed to be knowledgeable of the tree? Did she create it or is she responsible for Sanny being separated from most of society for several years....or is she her mother?!
I'm just teasing, though her backstory is left open for stuff like that.
