Being cursed in Dark Souls halves your Max HP until uncursed. Even death cannot save you from a curse.
There was a game (that I can't remember the name of) where being cursed prevented you from attacking at all, forcing you to flee.

Joining a friend's multiplayer game makes you go through four loading screens if you're in the multiplayer menu. Three if you're at the main menu.
The first loading screen takes you to the menu to check if you have the same DLCs as the player/friend you're joining. The next enters multiplayer, then immediately takes you to the third loading screen to pick your character. It goes to the final loading screen and you're in your friend's game.
