Okay, since this is about making posts and getting replies, how come I can't follow or friend somebody to see whenever they've made a post?

It's not a feature of the site, that's all.
This site, for all the time I've been here, has been pretty small and we all get around very easily without things like following people or liking posts.
You actually CAN make friends. Click their names and hit the "Add as buddy" option on their page.
There's no friends page on this site. To remove them you do the same thing as adding them.
