Well if you look at the story line up until now:
Mr.Mann owned a large company named Mann.co.His wife was pregnant , and had 3 babies.However she didn't make it when the babies were being born.However for an unknown reason the 3rd baby could talk.Mr. Mann was disgusted as he thought he was a weird mutation.He wanted to have that baby killed , but during that time there was a project of getting eagles as soldiers.One of the eagles took the baby before Mann could kill him.She raised him as if it was his own , but when he grew up he ate her , and then went back to society.Mann bought a land full of gravel after discovering that it could power amazing machines such as the sentry gun.However before he could do much with it he was dieing , and in his will he wrote that he gives his land to his 2 sons.He entrusts Ms. Pauling to help out both of his sons , and he gives saxton hale partial ownership of Mann .co .Both of the brothers get greedy over the land , and form the two groups:Builder league united , and reliable excavation demolition.Meaning red , and blu after that 1 decides to hire 9 mercenaries to kill his brother , but his brother got the same 9 to do the same for him , and thus TF1 was made.After a while both of the brothers got really old , and decided that their fight was going nowhere , and that the other brother will simply just outlive the other.one gets the engineers grandfather to make a machine that makes him live forever.Ms. pauling was entrusted to help both of them so she managed to get him to make a second machine for the other brother by paying him australium which can power up bombs.They decide to fire the old mercenaries , and hire 9 new ones which made TF2.Later after battling they think that they might get murdered , and end the Mann family.They make a truce to not fight until they invent a machine to make one of them pregnant , but while that happened their third brother who just happens to say "Gentlemen." , and happen to wear spies suit , and have the butterfly knife comes in , and kills them.He then makes robots that are powered up by money in an effort to try , and destroy mann co.With the brothers death that means the mercanaries are unemployed , and Saxton hale is now the full owner of Mann co. Ms pauling decides to help saxton hale get rid of the robots , and he informs both teams of mercenaries that he wants to rehire them however he will not pay them  , and they still have to pay if they want any gear.They agree to join because the robots are powered by money meaning they can pick up whatever they drop.

My theory on this:Since both teams are working together the red team gives blu team red clothes so they don't mistake them for robots.The reason Blu robots are attacking Red robots is probably because they function to destroy anything red to help them target the red team.So you are playing as both teams against the robots.

Would work, if it weren't for one "small" problem.

Don't say separation of story and gameplay, as when you do it like this you have offically failed at everything.

Two things happened to me recently in tf2.

1rst, I got a hat now
((even though it's a free one, I'm still crazy about.  I even painted it))

2nd, Mann vs machine is impossible without a medic.
((me and a bunch of people where stuck on wave 1. I changed to medic and we arrived at final wave without dying once ((none of the group died or we didn't fail the mission))

Most matches I've been in had no medic, and we still won with some amount of ease.

Giant robot mercs are no problem for us, I'll take out more than half their hp with Degreaser Axtinguisher combo! 
That is, if there are other people to distract it first

errrrr right now my favourite would be spy since I started Main in this class

the feel of rarity when playing this class is particulary strong, so I also dressed myself with a fancy fedora and I'll add a made man in the future.
also, I play vanilla, but this time around I'm having too much fun with the red tape recorder, it makes engineers go crazy
