Well with the right background i suppose. My OC is a captain of the Unicornian guard, so obviously he has some training in combat. If your pony had to, say, survive in teh wilderness, they might have picked up a few things. Just so long as the combat training is plausible.

Let me explain you something about the "noponies/nobodies".
When they are... reborn (it would take too long to explain the full story) they have the fighting experience of their former life. I am still working on his past life but he would have had combat experience.

Anyway. I would like to add him 2 offensive moves:

Thunderga A Bolt of thunder strikes a target near him. 
and this one once he ether found one of the shards or learned what friendship is

there shall be little/no fighting in this game, since above all it IS a DIPLOMACY game, not a combat-oriented game.

Combat certainly doesn't earn ANY of you Harmony ponies which you DEFINITELY need in order to get ANYWHERE.

For the record, I'm a little surprised/disappointed none of you have even managed to get a single Shard yet.

Just so you know, My quote un-quote plan to get the attention of the Princess is to bring Ryo into the city. We bring him in, saying he is from the D_Disk clan, and needs the help of the Princess. This is how we must present ourselves to those influential ponies and other variable quadropads who may guide and allow us into the areas where we shall find the shards? I do know one thing, Galinndan would never leave a book of his or anypony else's on the ground.

He is part of the quest, is he not? I understand he might have some reluctancy towards this plan, but I will assure him that it is the only way we can think of (that is legal and will no potentially kill us all) to acquire a fire ruby and by extension, gain access into the Diamond Kingdom.

Let me see, so far major faults (feel free to add more)... The Doctor aggro'd the Diamond Dogs, Galinndan accidentaly got into a fight with Rusty, Rusty ran off, and Galinndan left his friends behind. Wow, i am in too of those.

so far all i got for the diamond dog leader is 'big shiny thing'. Princess Platinum, we aren't even allowed to talk with her! she is under high security during this unnecessary war. Chancellor Puddinghead and Commander Hurricane havent even come into play at all yet. So far there is only one griffon in the plot, and it's one of the players!

do you really think they would talk to you unless they were sure you were worthy of a tool that has the potential of either rebuilding or destroying the entire world?  Do you think they would simply let ANYPONY touch the shards?  The spies of Discord are everywhere, how are they to be sure that anypony can be trusted?

Alright I'm going to say some Key points this is highly important so please take note

First of the Diamond dogs are not simpletons they are intelligent please don't mark them down as they like shiny things please

Second I did not mean to make this as challenging as I made it seem I don't mean to be horrible to say this but there was the option to call out to the princess while she was there in front of you but it is fine there are always other options and ill be more lenient with them.

Thirdly it's true that most of you are not suitable currently for harbouring an element to be honest I think old man Jenkins is closer than half of you just please remember what the elements are in your head and think how you would act accordingly, I'm not saying make it obvious I'm just saying think about it   
Final point I'd like to make is that I would appreciate some more GM assistance handling all the NPC's and story is getting harder and I'm not going to lie it is stressing me out (you should see the first draught of this) but I do truly apologise for the chaos I've put this RP through and the madness I've put you players through it was not my intention to upset any of you at any point and if I did I'm sorry.
