Thanks to Morning Glory for the format I used.  Thoughts and suggestions appreciated!

Name: Dusty Tomes
Gender: Male
Age: 22 (human years)
Race: Earth Pony
Coat color: Pale Brown
Mane/tail color: Dark Brown
Cutiemark: Scroll

History: Growing up with a desire to study medicine caused a young Dusty considerable consternation when he didn't find the desired cutie mark appearing as early as hoped. He was a good student as a foal, and was able to keep track of information.  But he just couldn't seem to use the information he held.  (Knowing that you're supposed to put a cast on a broken wing is different from actually pulling it off)  This discontent was frustrating at the time when those others with talents were able to make obvious use of them.  He redoubled his efforts to heal, much to the chagrin of the nurses and doctors who had to clean up the mess.  No matter what he tried, he could get what he knew out in a way that he could make it useful.  He had knowledge, but no aptitude.

The young colt's fortunes changed one Hearth's Warming Eve, when, in preparing for the pageant, he was assigned to help out his classmates in studying for their roles. The holiday spirit coupled with his memory allowed him to learn the stories of yore, and awakened in him a desire to learn.  He began in earnest studying the history of Equestria, and the lands before, and found important lessons, which he imparts when he feels the time is right.  His toil now is to eternally learn, and keep what knowledge he can in his memory, and what he can't in whatever book he tucks under his hat.  He has become a bit of a wandering historian, putting on his little speeches and shows wherever he goes, teaching outside of the classroom, for the time being.  He desires to someday become a teacher, but doesn't yet feel like he knows enough to really help.

Personality: Open and friendly, but not necessarily tactful, Dusty means well, but sometimes suffers from hoof-in-mouth disease.  He'll try to act as a big brother (can't break a life-long habit!) which also sometimes gives the impression of condescension.  The times he struggles most is with the fillies, of course, and it brings out a sort of bumbling awkwardness when he gets cornered.  Always happy to hear a tale or share one, he nonetheless can sometimes get too occupied in what he's doing, which will often be accompanied by a healthy dose of absentmindedness.  Growing up in a large family has secured a sense of importance to the family, setting his traveling lifestyle rather at ends with his desires for stable family life.

I'm not much of an artist, but Morning Glory did this superb rendition of ol' Dusty.  Thanks again!
"I often wish that the two groups - adults and kids - could find a way to get along better. ... The biggest problem is, the adults have one of the most effective recruitment strategies in the world.

Give them enough time, and they'll turn any kid into one of them."

Tasty, I'm always fond when we delve into the psychology of a character. I have nothing to say about the current pony but I do have something to say about his future ovO.

Put him into a roleplay, if you are willing because although he has found his cutie-mark it looks like his future is anything but certain. Am I correct? Placing him into a quality role play well help buffer out his full range of interests and "structure" (I dislike that word  lol!) his future.

Or if you won't role play a short story is always helpful  :3!

Good luck, my friend.
