Winter continues to steady Checkmate. Oh here, these will ease the pain. She levitates a blue pill near Checkmate.

Save it for those who are seriously injured.  Check ignored the pill, walking on his own.  While occasionally he stumbled, for the most part he was steady.

Ok. How are you holding up? She asks Maple. I don't think I got all the splinters out of your nose.

"It's ok thanks iv had worse " as he said this he put his hoof up to show .

Misty catches up and walks near the others.

Checkmate walked quietly, not talking unless anypony talked to him.

Commander, where are we going?

To a workshop owned by the pony with a cybernetic leg.  If it's large enough, we can store supplies there and make it a base.

A tear could be seen as he began " it happened a long time ago before any of this happened, I had been accepted into a new research facility that was located deep in the everfree forest" he smiled at the memory" I was just a simple weapons and bio engineer at the time working on projects like warheads and that's when I met her " sniffs"she was the most beautiful mare I had ever seen  but unfortunately I never got around to telling her that " he began to cry softly .

Oh my, what happened? She wipes Maples face with a tissue.

Checkmate nodded and continued walking quietly, his eyes never sitting still.

Misty kept her head on a swivel too.

After taking a deep breath maple continued "it was a routine check of the warheads which invlovled the whole science team being there, I was doing one last check to. Make sure everything was ok, I fond as I was  ending that the cooling system was broken meaning the warheads had started to overheat . Before I could say anything there was a bright flash of light and. The force of the blast knocked me out, I woke up tofind this replaceing my Hoof and eye " he finished a stream of tears going down his check " the worst part is that I was the o my one to survive".

Hold it together.  Checkmate said simply, without a kind tone.  You survived this, and you cannot fall apart now, understand?!

That's so sad, I'm sorry you had to go through that. She gives Maple more tissues.

Maple chuckled "yea your right it just hurts to think about her"

Good.    Checkmate kept walking now, looking around.

I'll get the rest of those splinters out from your nose when we get there. She falls back a bit walking alongside Checkmate with a loving smile at him. Thinking about what he might think of her.

Checkmate paid no attention to her, mainly keeping his eyes open for danger.  There would be time later to ask her why she kept doting on him.
