Checkmate sighed and looked up.  Allow me to phrase it like this:  Ponies don't like me for some bizarre reason, and so, by staying away from them, I reduce the chances that harm can come to me.  He said, before adjusting his glasses and resetting his chess game.

Before Atlas goes in the professor's house he makes sure he gots everything in his saddle bags.

"lets see got food entertainment money, yep all prepared."

Atlas walks in the professor's house to find two other ponies in there.

"Hello i'm here i'm here, don't ask about the scar on my muzzle just don't."

[Teal Turken]

Maybe they just don't know you well enough. Teal says.
After all, the professor seems to like you.

Teal looks to Atlas and tilts his head and smiles.
Welcome, and I'll try my best not to.

Checkmate grumbled and returned to his game, ignoring Teal.

Atlas greets teal and the professor. Atlas notices the pony that is (what Atlas thinks) is sitting away form everyone else.

"erh what's wrong with him I can't tell but I think he's looking at me with eyes of hatred and despair."

[Checkmate]

Checkmate looked up at this.  Hardly hatred or despair.  These are emotions, which can reduce one's mental effectiveness.  Therefore, I would not show anything.

Aye, of despair,  but not hatred. if you don't mind, i'll be in the other room, setting things up. [i'm heading to sleep. 'night!]

Atlas just flatly says to the pony with glasses:

"yer antisocial aren't you."

Checkmate sighed, hating to re-explain himself.  Once again, I prefer to be by myself, as I am the only pony I can trust.  The more ponies I am with, the higher the odds that something could go catastrophically wrong.

Atlas snickers and sees a chess board.

"oh chess how fun, mind if I play."

Checkmate rolled his eyes, before resetting the board with his magic, his small horn glowing black.  Very well.
