Messages - Scribble Books

61
"Wow! That's very strange. I don't know if this will help at all, but a week ago, a strange character came into Happy Tails Book Shop. He seemed very tired and grim. He was a dark maroon earth pony and old with light blue hair that was starting to gray. What really caught my attention though was what he said to me. He bought mystery a book for colts about a young gray pegasus that has to deal with a friend he disagrees with. When he bought it, he asked me, 'Is this true?', pointing to the young pegasus on the cover. I told him I didn't know what he meant. Then he ignored me as if he had never asked the question in the first place, put the book in his saddlebag and walked out the store.
Again, I have no idea if this has anything to do with Quick Start missing. But if it is a lead, I have the book with me. After the strange encounter, I've been studying the book. I can't find anything unusual about it, but you two know more about the situation. Maybe you might find something useful?" Scribble handed the book to Lynx to look at. Maybe his special sight would help pick up any clues. "The book he wanted looked a little used like someone had been messing with it. The corners were bent and one of the pages had markings on it. I tried to sell him a newer, nicer edition, but he wouldn't have it, so I simply switched books when he wasn't looking. The book I've got here is the marked up one he wanted."
62
"I'm really sorry about your friend." Scribble said solemnly. "Do have any idea why he's lost? Like did he get pony-napped or got in with the wrong crowd or works for a top-secret organization?" Scribble glanced at Lynx to see if he reacted to 'top secret organization.'
63
"Fanfiction? We sell some of that at my book shop and my brother is writing one where we're both alicorns and we fight monsters."
64
Scribble had dozens of questions buzzing around in her head,

Have you had this since birth?
If not, was the process painful?
How does your special sight work? Can you see through walls or just see in the dark?
Is it classified because you're some kind of special experiment? Is it classified because you work for a secret organization that gave you this ability and any more information about the ability would make it possible to trace the ability back to the secret organization and then it wouldn't be secret anymore?
Are there other genetically enhanced ponies like you?
What sorts of powers and abilities could you give a pony through genetic augmentation?
Was it given only to alicorns because they were strong enough to handle it? Or could other ponies get genetic augmentations?

But Scribble respected that there was a limit of information Lynx was willing to share and clamped her mouth shut as her imagination ran wild about secret organizations and genetically enhanced ponies.

"So where are we going to start looking for Quick Start? What kind of pony is he like and when did he start going missing?"
65
"Is that alicorn magic? Do all alicorns have that ability or is that your special talent?"
66
Scribble paused and waited for Book Keeper to catch up. "I've been living in Manehatten for only a few months. I'm actually from Ponyville originally and moved up here to help my brother run his book shop. That's why I didn't know how to react when I first saw you ponies. Maybe if I lived here longer I would have shrugged it off. But everything's quiet in ponyville afterdark except for the crickets."
67
Three weeks. Anything could happen to a pony in three weeks. Just thinking about it made her choke up a little bit. And the courage that these ponies had to go and search for him just spoke of commitment and sacrifice.
Scribble's ears turned red when Lynx Talon grabbed her hoof. But she was ready. They, all of them together, were going to find this missing pony. It was time to get started.
68
I know this is back-pedaling, but I didn't get a chance to show Scribble's reaction...

As Scribble hugged Lynx, she began to feel him stir. He blinked and his eyes seemed to refocus. The stallion hugged her back, kissing her on the cheek, which made Scribble blush again. But he was alright. Scribble breathed a sigh of relief and wiped her tears away with the back of her hoof and sniffed. Now that everything was back to normal, they could start searching for the missing pony and go on an adventure!

Book Keeper asked for Scribble's name.
"Oh! I'm sorry." said Scribble. "I'm Scribble Books and my special talent is Creativity. I'm excited to start this search with you two. Where was the last place you saw your friend ... um ... Quick Start? Maybe we should start there and ask ponies around there if they've seen him. How long has he been lost?"
69
"Are we going to go looking for the lost pony now?"
70
For Scribble, it didn't matter what happened next. She had love, she had adventure, and she felt like she had known these two ponies all her life even though she had only met them a few minutes ago.
71
The kiss was warm and even though she felt Lynx hesitate at first, he seemed receptive afterwards. The thrill of kissing made Scribble feel like flying (if she had wings). That was until she felt a shudder go through the alicorn and he dropped to the ground and started shaking, his pupils shrank, and something started to beep.
Scribble put a hoof to her mouth. What have I done?
If she knew her kiss would have this kind of reaction, she would never have done it. The alicorn had completely changed from a strong, confident stallion to a tiny colt that was hiding under his covers afraid of the thunder. Scribble knelt down and looked Lynx in the eyes, which seemed to look right through her into some terrible nightmare. Scribble blinked back a tear. "Lynx? Lynx Talon? Can you hear me? I-I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that, I'm sorry."
She hugged Lynx around the neck, hugging him tightly, trying to bring back the confident stallion she loved. Her perfumed mane fell over her shoulders and across Lynx's muzzle. Scribble cried openly.
72
The alicorn was a gentleman too! He was so close to her. He whispered to her. He was an alicorn. He was handsome and mysterious; mysterious like a good story. Scribble couldn't hold it in any longer. She leaned forward, closed her eyes, and kissed Lynx Talon on the mouth.
73
Scribble let go of Book Keeper. "You're friend's missing? That's awful! I will help you find him." Scribble smiled a real smile for the first time in a long time. "Just like a real-life adventure." she said. So that's what these ponies were up to. They were all helping her new friend find a lost pony. She decided she liked alicorns again and decided that the weirdness she experience was no different than other ponies' weirdnesses. Even I'm weird! Scribble smiled again. She felt her confidence flooding back and despite everything that had scared her before, none of it seemed important anymore. There was a lost pony that needed to be found and she was going to do what she could to help these ponies on their mission.
Scribble pulled out a quill and parchment from her saddlebag and wrote a note for her brother, Scrabble, that helped her run her bookshop. 'Scrabble - I met some ponies that need my help. I don't know how long I'll be gone, but I'm in good company. One of them is an alicorn! (I think I might like him). You'll be fine running the shop by yourself and don't forget this friday is half-off on foal's books. Love, Scribble.' Scribble tucked the note in the crack of the door.
When Lynx whispered to her, it felt like something a special somepony would do and she blushed. She officially had a crush on the handsome alicorn.
74
Scribble Books smiled at Book Keeper. She was obviously trying to lighten the mood and it helped Scribble feel a little safer. She felt like she could be friends with her. They probably shared similar interests, namely books. She still wasn't sure about the other ponies. Lynx Talon said he did top secret missions, which made Scribble nervous, and the pony standing behind them started whispering something, which also made Scribble suspicious about this group of ponies. She  decidedly didn't trust the Lynx and the pony standing back in the darkness. Even her fascination with alicorns couldn't save her from her doubts. Actually meeting one wasn't as fanciful as she daydreamed it would be - in fact it was rather intimidating. A pony with wings and a horn now seemed other-earthly and bizarre, like a feverish dream.
But on the other hand, she liked Book Keeper and if she was friends with the other ponies and trusted them, then they probably weren't as bad as Scribble pictured.
"I feel like I can trust you, Book Keeper. And if you're friends with these other two ponies then I think I can trust them too. I was going to go home after I closed shop, but if you need my help with something then I promise I will do what I can to help you."
Suddenly a tornado sprung out of no where. Scribble jumped and grabbed the pony closest to her which happened to be Book Keeper and hid her face in her mane until the wind died down.
75
The reassuring ponies eased some of Scribble's nerves. But she was still confused. "There was a tornado and a fourth pony you were chasing. Why? Who are you ponies?" Scribble felt a little better, but still stayed in the fetal position. She didn't trust these ponies. They were hiding something, she was sure of it. Why else would they be up running around in the middle of the night?
76
A brown mare teleports in from out of nowhere and stumbles as she catches her breath from the effort of the spell. She smells of smoke and parts of her fur are burnt. "Fire!" Panted the unicorn. "F-fire at the stables! Ponies are trapped. N-need help!"
Sure enough, smoke rose in the distance. It was far off, but the dark cloud started to raise, and ponies began to be able to smell the smoke as the wind shifted, bringing the smell of burning wood.
77
"I think so." She stood back up on all four hooves. "And thanks." she added. "I'm Scribble Books. I closed my bookshop and was just moping up when I saw three - no - four? ponies. Usually the street is really quiet and I stepped out for a bit out of curiosity. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw an alicorn ... sir," she added awkwardly. "What are you ponies up to anyway?" Scribble panicked and clamped her mouth shut. What if these ponies were up to know good? Would they steal her away to silence her? She shouldn't have said that. She should NOT have said that. She blushed all the way up to her ears.
"Nevermind me. I'll just let you be. I didn't see anything, I promise." Scribble nervously laughed and hurried to open her shop, tried to open it. It was locked. She automatically locked it as she went out, her keys still laying on the counter inside. She was backed into a corner with no where to go. No place to escape. She knelt down and cowered, waiting for the inevitable blow to happen. "Just kill me quickly she said."
78
Scribble slowly blinked and saw two blurry faces through the aura of levitation magic. Then she blushed. The alicorn was looking right at her. And he was handsome.
"I saw you chasing ..." But Scribble was two scrambled to finish her sentence. The embarrassment of having to be cared for, the presence of an alicorn, and trying to remember the scene that unfolded before her was too much. So she asked the most obvious question. "Who are you?"
79
"I - how? - are you? - did you just? - ?" Scribble's eyes flicked between the two ponies until she started to stare at the alicorn. "Your majesty!" She bowed so low and quickly that she hit her head on the sidewalk. Her cheeks flushed in embarrassment. A little light headed from being in the presence of alicorn power and hitting her head, she promptly fainted. She still had her saddlebag on, like she did everyday and it flipped open revealing a rare, magical book Scribble carried around with her everywhere about the history and abilities of alicorns.

A lone pony sat in her store - hours after she had closed, her cheek pressed against the glass as she slumped to the side on the bale of hay. She was tired and didn't want to go home and have to clean again. She was just thinking about how overwhelmed and unsatisfied she was with her life until she noticed some commotion outside her window. There were several ponies having some kind of fight. One of ponies was an alicorn! Scribble's heart swelled. She was always so interested in alicorns and now there was one right outside her window on Mane Street!

Scribble unlocked the shop door and wandered outside, tripping over the sidewalk - she didn't realize how sleep-deprived she was - and gaped at the scene unfolding before her.
