Basically, they're a brony, but they're hiding the fact that they're a brony. Like, they're hiding in a closet. I guess the "closet" term maybe comes from the thought of them hiding any pony stuff in their closet, so no one else will ever see it.

Actually, I believe the term comes from the homosexual "coming out of the closet".  The person "hiding in the closet" knows what they are but refuses to publicly come out and admit it due to fear of being judged, so they stay in the closet and hide their true feelings.

Then again, your theory is legitimate, as well.

Low Key comes back to reality and stops gawking at his new hero, "Right."  He takes a few more chips out of his bag and stuffs them in his mouth, washing them down with soda.

Closet bronies are people who are interested in the show/fandom, but either don't acknowledge it openly or just outright act like a hater because they are afraid of being judged.

Jarred from his relaxation by Act's entry, he simply stays gawking at his presence.  A single teardrops from his eye as he stammers, "That.  Was.  Awesome."
106
He jumps slightly at having his relaxation so rudely disrupted, but first checks to make sure that his chips are still dry before glaring back at Mental.  He deadpans, "Mind the chips, please," before levitating over his can of soda and taking a large gulp.

Low Key immediately rushed up to the mares, his eyes wide, the flow of adrenaline obvious.  With panic in his voice he looks to Grey, "Is there anything I need to do?!"
108
Low Key waves back before heading back inside.  He uses his magic to take off his jacket and shakes it out.  Shaking himself off before he enters, he walks through the door and sets the coat on a rack to dry.
109
Low Key floated a few potato chips into his mouth before answering, "It's been a long time since I've been in a hot tub.  I almost forgot relaxing it was."  As if to punctuate his point, he closes his eyes and leans back.

Taking notice of the rattling, Low Key looks up just in time to see a bucket of water falling on him.  He simply stands there, soaked to the bone and shivering slightly.  A deadpan look on his face, he searches for the prankster.  Finding Justice rolling around on the ground laughing, he can't help but join in.

Finishing up his dinner, Low Key places the plates in the sink and resolves to take a short walk.  He puts on his leather jacket and steps outside.  He never noticed the tripwire.
112
"I think it would be best if you asked the hostess, Scrib-"  Low Key trails off as he watches the two mares playing with the frost spell, "Oh dear."
113
Low Key returns from the kitchen with a sandwich and a mug of tea.  He sits down at a nearby table and begins to have his dinner.
114
Doing his best not to wake her up, Low Key tip-hooves his way around her and stumbles his way towards the kitchen looking for leftovers.
115
Low Key notices Mental coming for him, so he approaches, "Were you trying to get my attention, Smooth?"
116
Low Key slowly opens his eyes as he wakes up on the couch.  Apparently, he had fallen asleep while reading.  He always loved books that did that to him.  Still somewhat groggy, he places the bookmark in it and sets it off to the side.  He stands up and stretches his legs in an attempt to wake himself up.
117
"Interesting nickname...Anyway, I'll leave you to your search."  Low Key turns around and begins to walk back to the table he was sitting at.
118
Low Key glances up from his book, looking over at Doomato.  He raises an eyebrow before going back to reading.
119
"Low Key.  I don't think I got yours, either."

"On occasion, yes.  If you go over to the non-fiction section, there is a section on gardening.  It's right up against the wall."
