A Shiny Pokemon is a Pokemon with a different color scheme and a shine effect when released into battle. It's rare. Like, 1/8192 rare. Really, that's the odds of encountering one. It has no effect on gameplay other than bragging rights.

(( You're speaking like our OC's should know this. They don't known this. Why would they? This is the first time they encountered StarSong, and she hasn't mentioned much about her current living conditions other than an orphanage. ))
