In the background, a small figure could be seen walking on the beach. Its skin made of a variety of metals, and its movement ever so precise and repetitive. Dyed in a shade of a natural metal: grey, and blue in a unnatural way, it lifted one of its trapezoid-liked hoofs up and placed it in front of him, bringing the rest of his body forwards. Every second or so, his upper-mid segment would rise, revealing the insides of this mechanical being. Gears of all shapes and kinds were moving in multiple velocities. Multiple-coloured wires brought electricity to other systematic parts of the system. The Faster-Than-Magic drive already doing its work by moving the entire thing magically without external force.
It was a robot, no doubt. Hostile or not, they would have to find out.

It appears that something was knocking into the garbage can previously, in an attempt to alert the owners or to knock it down itself.
