Eventually, the unicorn just gave up on making himself heard, shaking his head as he pushed himself away from his support.
A little too hard, actually. With his shaky-at-best balance, he quickly stumbled right into Peace anyway. And at that point, between this and Maple's words, he couldn't stop himself.

No... I'm not... All I was, all I am, is just some colt with delusions of grandeur....! If I hadn't left for the road, this would never have happened!
Being called a hero had only made him wrap his hooves tighter around the fused alicorn as said alicorn's coat began to feel more and more damp where Illusion happened to be resting his head.
"S-stop... Y... W-wouldn't have n-needed saving... I-if I wasn't here...!"

The gryphon leader shook his head, clearing away the brief dizziness as he stood to his feet. Right around that point was when the rest of his squad began to recover from their brief flight.

And boy, did they look angry.

[glow=red,2,300]"Hold!"[/glow] He had ordered the lot of them, and with a quick signal they rallied around him, at least half of them sporting looks of confusion.
"Why?" Was the general thought. The unicorn had assaulted him, and had a bounty on his head to boot. Why shouldn't they fight and take him in?

Still, they knew better than to question. They had too much faith in him to do something like that.
"Matton...? Sir?"
...For the most part.

[glow=red,2,300]"We'll have no further business with this rogue. Let's just say I'm payin' back a debt I owe. Now head back to town and cash in th' loot. Featherbrain will take command in my absence."[/glow]
"You mean..." One of the hunters began, causing the leader, Matton, to sigh. [glow=red,2,300]"Yes, I meant you. Now get goin'!"[/glow]

As the band gave a quick salute, they took to the skies once more, leaving Matton behind.

Just what exactly were his intentions, though?

Illusion had remained on the ground for quite a while, sobbing quietly as he replayed those last few moments in his head, and the last words he'd shared before then.
If Peace had been feeling guilty, then one could only imagine what the unicorn was feeling. Peace only helped. Illusion was the one who finished off the 'monster' with his own four hooves.

[shadow=orange,left]And that's a wrap. The end.[/shadow]

That thought alone made him start coughing violently as he tried to stand, feeling as if he was about to see what he'd eaten last night.

"Not... Not your... fault."
He managed to say with some difficulty, pushing himself up with shaky legs that seemed about ready to give out.
The unicorn couldn't hold himself up long, and had eventually stumbled into a tree, relying on it to keep himself upright.

His gaze wandered, and it soon fell upon Maple, his true sight allowing him to see the cyborg's ghostly body and send more feelings of guilt and powerlessness his way, to the point he felt physically ill.

After all he'd done to save Maple's life, was even that just all for naught?

He didn't know how long he stood there, silent, but he promptly tensed up upon feeling a hoof on his back, and he turned to face Peace.
The unicorn's eyes were... normal, now. Green eyes, tinged with red, stared at the fused Alicorn, occasionally blinking or wiping away the remaining tears.

He wanted to speak, to say something, only find that he simply couldn't find the strength or the words to do so.
123
[glow=red,2,300]"That's the thing about apostles. They're normal people that went an' struck a deal with sorts they shouldn't 'ave. Strike their new forms down, and their old bodies show up only to fade away."[/glow]

Illusion's ears perked upon hearing this, and he soon turned around, an expression on his face that, despite trying to control himself, was less than calm.
"He wouldn't do that. He doesn't take deals. This is just a very, very bad prank. Put that hoof away, Keeper. Or Maker- Whoever's at the wheel. Anyway, point is, he's not gone, and he should know he can't hide for long... He's. Not. Gone."
His horn then briefly glowed as he sent out what was, for lack of a better word, a ping, searching for his brother. And then another. And another. Another, another, another, and so on.

[glow=red,2,300]"Lad..."[/glow]

"I know what you're going to say, and I'm going to just stop you right there! He's here! Somewhere! Anywhere! He can't be gone when we won! Help me look already, won't you?!"
The gryphons didn't move an inch, instead shuffling uncomfortably as some turned to their apparent leader to handle the situation. He too didn't move, or even speak.
"Fine! I'll find him myself!" The unicorn snapped at him, immediately resuming his search of the immediate area. Only then did one of them, the leader, dare approach.

All he got was an abrupt slug to the face, sending him to the ground when Illusion had whirled around and straight up socked him upon getting too close.
"Matton! Sir!"
This was the spark that set off the powder keg as the rest of the gryphons promptly charged, trying to hold down the unicorn.

Unfortunately, they weren't quite on the same level, as seen when a brief magical flare sent the lot flying, a fair few of them smashing into trees or boulders in the process.
"I've been very... VERY patient. So far... Stop trying to stop me. He's not gone! My brother is not... Is not... He... We..."
The unicorn began to hesitate as he spotted something on the ground, brought up to the surface from his magic burst. Naturally, he knelt down to investigate, digging out what at first glance looked like just a small scrap of paper from the dirt.

What he found had made him finally crack, his voice going hoarse as he struggled to find words that he could barely even speak.
"C... Cyrus... Y... you can't... I... We were supposed to..."
In the end, words failed him. As tears began streaming freely down his face, the brother let out an agonized wail as he utterly broke down, curling up into a ball on the ground while continuing to weep.
124
"Okay...? I kinda had the impression you didn't like them. I, uh, didn't really mean to eavesdrop, but... And after hearing the captain..."
The unicorn then cleared his throat as his gaze turned towards the wolf at the bottom of the ramp.
"Anyway, I'm guessing you got sidetracked with that guy down there. Anyway, I need to ask something as well, so no big deal. If Pink stops by, would you mind passing the news on to her as well?"

Without another word, Illusion walked off, heading right to the captain's quarters and knocking on the door.
125
Illusion was quite few few things. But patient? Yeah, actually, he was pretty patient. However, he had other reasons for wanting to head back to the ship.
"Now that I think of it... I'll be right back. I'm just gonna go see what else the good captain might let us use. We're a bit short on tools for this job, I'm thinking."
He had said to Pink before he (carefully) stepped out of the entrance, walking the short distance back to the ship.

"Oi, Red! What's goin' on up there?"
The unicorn soon called out as he approached the ramp, seeing the other two chatting as they pushed a particularly large wolf down said ramp.

Illusion, too, had breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing that the finale was such a success and gave Peace a brief grin, but soon had focused his attention on other things. The crystals the gryphons were picking up off the ground, for example.
It didn't take long for one of them to notice, either. "Loot crystals, mate. Everyone gets their share of at least one. Break 'em open and see what y'get, or sell 'em off for a high price."

Huh... The unicorn figured NPCs wouldn't take part in systems like that. But in all honesty, he wasn't all that concerned with that, or even the loot for that matter.
He still needed to find his brother. Then he could start worrying.

"As nice as that is, we need to get going. There's still somepony I need to find, and-"
A tapping on the back of his head caught Illusion's attention as he turned around, seeing an oddly familiar face responsible for it.
He'd seen this gryphon before. But where...

[glow=red,2,300]"You mean that one, there?"[/glow]

The familiar face had asked, motioning towards the Girgashiy's data. The unicorn's eyes widened as he saw a seemingly unconscious pony-like figure among it all, hovering just over the wreckage. This figure was one that he recognized immediately.
"Breaker!"
He called out, dashing immediately towards him with a relieved grin on his face. His brother was safe. He was fine. Everything was going to be fine.

It was with a smile on his face that he reached out, trying to ease the guard-pony to the ground.

His smile broke when the pony vanished along with the rest of the data at his touch.

"B... Breaker...? Cy...? C-c'mon, don't mess with me like that. Breaker? Yeah, this is really funny, brother, now stop messing around! I was worried sick about you and you're pulling stunts like this?! Stop hiding! It's not funny anymore...!"

This needs to end now. There's no sparing this one; it's a boss, and one that I have the sneaking suspicion was specifically meant to take some of us out of the picture. We were just lucky things turned out the way they did.

Illusion glared towards his target as the ground beneath him began to shudder, moments before he leaped high into the air, wreathed in a bright green aura as he stopped mid-air right above his fireball.
"And here comes the climax!"
He then announced, eyes narrowed as the Girgashiy finally managed to snap the restraints holding it down. At this point, there was no hesitation. Briefly holding his staff skyward, Illusion's mark flashed in the sky for all to see before he dived.

And as he broke through the ball of fire he had just previously made, his green aura turned into that of a fierce flame, giving off the impression that he was acting the part of a flaming meteor. A meteor that was picking up speed far too fast.

Act 7: Climactic Crash!

The Girgashiy saw what was coming, but between Peace's beam attack and the assault from all the others, it couldn't defend itself in time.
What happened next could best be described as a pony-shaped meteor piercing right through the boss to smash into the ground. Said boss seemed to remain frozen as Illusion picked himself from the ground unharmed, and dusted off his clothes.

A few seconds later, he clapped his hooves together, which seemed to break the girgashiy out of it's frozen state as it was bombarded by a seemingly spontaneous explosion.

"And that's a wrap. The end."
The unicorn had said, bowing to his "audience" right as the Girgashiy collapsed onto the ground, already falling apart into ones and zeros.

[glow=blue,2,300]Lightning Rod![/glow]

Before long, Illusion had the spell cast and a bolt of lightning slammed into the Girgashiy, along with countless other hits being piled on as the boss was unable to retaliate.
A shine appeared over the unicorn's eyes for a brief moment as he poured even more of his resources into a finisher.

Snap-Cast: Fireball!

A great ball of fire about the size of a regular pony soon came into existence at the tip of Illusion's staff.
The fireball soon went up high into the air as the caster soon began to glow green.

Ready for the Finale!

[OOC: Let's just say it's a surprise. You'll see what happens when Girgashiy goes down.]

Pressed down by the increase of gravity, the Girgashiy was actually forced to a knee, making it vulnerable to further attack. However, something seemed to glow beneath it's mask as it began to hold up it's weapon in an attempt to perform a skill the group had yet to see.

[glow=red,2,300]"Crusaders, give it everything you have and don't let it recover!"[/glow] The gryphon from before.

Two of the other gryphons in the squad gave simultaneous nods, and what appeared to be bracelets on their front legs began to glow with a brilliant blue shine.
[shadow=yellow,left][glow=yellow,2,300]Celestial Spike![/glow][/shadow]
Immediately, the Girgashiy's hands began to glow with that blue light as they were forced to the ground.

Locked down!

[glow=red,2,300]"Now, hit it with everything you've got!"[/glow]
On that command, the rest of the gryphons charged with weapons in their talons, attacking with all of their might.

Illusion, who previously had only been watching the scene, decided to join in, charging up for a particularly powerful [glow=blue,2,300]Lightning Rod[/glow].

"Well, it's a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Pink." Was Illusion's response as he read through the writings of an unknown language.
"Ah... Found something. Looks like it's nothing useful to me, though; I haven't brushed up on my gobbledygook, so unless one of us knows how to read ancient languages, we're still pretty stuck."

He gave both of his companions a brief look, before he pointed towards the dragonpony.
"Oi, red dragon. Y'think you can fly back and see if our friend the captain has something for situations like this? I'm sure you're the quickest out of all of us, so you'll probably be back in no time."
131
It's free arm moving faster than the eye could reliably track, the Girgashiy promptly swatted away the incoming blast. However, it's attention had then shifted towards the bolt's newest target, the cloud Illusion had been resting on.
The unicorn in question only just saw it coming, and he promptly leaped off before it could result in a direct hit. And not a moment too soon, either; the moment the bolt had hit his cloud was the moment it blew up, hitting him with quite a bit of force regardless whether or not he was hit.

And now there was another problem. And that problem's name was gravity.

Illusion had no way to stop or slow his fall at this point, save for incredibly risky maneuvers that he had no faith would work. The heat buster would only slow him down so much, after all.
However, as he re-oriented his body and aimed downwards, he was surprised to feel something slamming into his back, wrapping a pair of limbs around his mid-section.

Illusion's natural instinct for unknown things grabbing him kicked in, and he promptly began to struggle.
"Quit squirmin' b'fore I drop you!"
And it was only then did he get a good look at his captor. A gryphon, and a brief look around in the skies showed at least half a dozen more diving down towards the battlefield, equipped with varying arms and armor. One of them even seemed to be decked out in full plate.
"Cap wants ya livin' and breathin', so cut that out!"

...

Well, it's not like he had any better ideas.

Even if he'd have preferred not having large chunks of crystal flying at them. Oh yeah, did I mention? [glow=yellow,2,300]Mineral Hail[/glow], courtesy of the Girgashiy apparently not wanting any of them to get to the ground.
The unknown band of gryphons were forced to take evasive actions, and the one carrying Illusion was also forced into a roll as a crystal spear flew by them.

In just a few moments, the unicorn was dropped roughly on the ground, and the next thing he saw was two other gryphons slamming right into the crystals holding Marble and Tara- [Not writing the "xippi" part all the time, too lazy] -in place, shattering the prisons and allowing them to fight once more.

[glow=red,2,300]"Surround the apostle! Don't let it take flight!"[/glow]
Ah, so the Girgashiy was some kind of apostle? But Illusion wasn't really concerned about that; what he was concerned about was how familiar that voice sounded.
He quickly tossed that aside, however, upon seeing the creature preparing itself, leading him to push himself off the ground with his staff and get ready to attack as well.

Surprisingly, the Girgashiy actually began to struggle against the sheer amount of firepower being thrown at it, being held back by the attack before it backed off with a powerful beat of it's wings, flipping over once before landing not too far away and causing the ground to shake.
And as it stood up proper after it's less than quiet landing, the creature's very being seemed to somehow become more imposing, more dangerous. The fact that it was staring at Peace with an unsettling calm demeanor about it wasn't helping matters, either.

Warning: Boss "Girgashiy" has entered second phase!

[glow=yellow,2,300]Holy Confinement![/glow]

Without much more warning than the announcement of it's use of a skill, the boss slammed the butt of it's staff into the ground, causing shining crystals to shoot up out of the ground at Marble and her companion(s), imprisoning them in crystal prisons that then proceeded to hover off the ground.

And these didn't look like the kind of barriers that could be easily broken from the inside.
But it left one wondering why it didn't try to trap the one alicorn, arguably the most threatening of the lot.

Meanwhile, up above in the clouds, Illusion could only watch as the combatants were narrowed down to two dueling forces, at the edge of his seat- or cloud, if you want to get touchy about it -the entire time, and only feeling worse and worse knowing he couldn't do anything to help.

I should be down there, fighting right by his side...! And here I am, stuck on a cloud, exhausted and with no way down!

As much as he wanted to fix that, though, he had no other option but to wait and see, right after being momentarily distracted by something that sounded strangely like a hawk's cry.

Deciding he had better things to pay attention to, though, he of course ignored it. Besides, what kind of bird would stick around in a place like this, and now of all times?
133
No shield was going to protect the two from the assault of such a gargantuan creature, as proven when the first two crystal chunks slammed right into it, causing massive cracks to show before the third broke through, leaving them vulnerable to the rest of the assault.
There was too much raw power behind the Girgashiy for it to be stopped by one unicorn's shield. Not for long, anyway. And as the boss dropped down towards them with the intent of stomping them flat, Illusion could only watch over the edge of his cloud.

There was nothing he could do at this point.

Even if he could work up the energy to jump down after them, he had no guarantees of a safe landing, and the fall would more than likely end him outright.
"This thing hits hard and fast, and even now I don't think it's using every trick it has... Get down there, Peace, and make sure they don't get themselves hurt."

As he turned to look the fused brothers in the face, he couldn't help but notice something odd off in the distance. Strange winged figures...
However, he quickly wrote that off as a hallucination caused by something, possibly exhaustion.

"Well, what are you waiting for?! Go! Help them out!"
134
"Alright, fair enough plan, Pink. Just try not to break it, alright?" Illusion had said, completely unaware that his little nickname was in fact more accurate than he'd thought as he soon began searching. "You know, I don't recall ever hearing your names... As for me, just call me Illusion; It's short for Grand Illusion, but everyone just calls me by the Latter."
He wasn't looking too far, only his immediate surroundings would suffice, he believed. However, he soon seemed to become incredibly meticulous about it, thinking that each and every single tile and block in this temple could hide something.

If there was just one thing out of place, he'd be right on it.
135
Illusion's own momentum had been stopped dead as well when he'd stopped his assault, and he soon began plummeting to the ground with no wings of his own to slow down with.
Fortunately, he had other means to stop his fall, using Crisis to hook onto a nearby cloud and pull it under him just in time for him to land on it's fluffy surface. His boots began to glow softly as he stood back up on the cloud, panting in exhaustion.

"That's nice... Now tell 'em to stop." Was what he managed to say in between breaths, eyes still on the boss and his body tensing up as said boss began to move.

Fortunately, the rain from the attackers below had caught the Girgashiy's attention just enough to severely annoy it, causing it to turn it's aggression down to the ground.
[glow=yellow,2,300]Mineral Hail![/glow]
This soon became quickly apparent with portals opening up just over Marble's head, which then proceeded to drop large chunks of crystal down on both her and the Taraxippi.

Between that and the shards of ice that had yet to reach them, it was going to take a miracle to escape unscathed.

Again, Illusion was forced to dodge an attack from the ground, and again, he was punished for it, just barely getting out of the way of Girgashiy's weapon before it slammed into him.
It only took so many near-misses before he got mad, and this second time had him convinced that someone on the ground was trying to take him out.

And he was going to fix that. Blasting himself away from the creature with a Heat Buster, he then pointed his staff down to the ground, aiming directly at three tiny figures that he knew had been sending ranged attacks his way.

Ice Needles!

The next thing the allies below would've seen was dozens of shards of ice flying their way. Being so far above them all, Illusion didn't know who he was attacking.
At least, not until a familiar-looking purple Alicorn rocketed past him and slammed right into the Girgashiy's face when it had been about to attack.
138
With the constant crashes of thunder and numerous explosions above the battlefield, it would've been impossible to not notice the fast-paced duel in the skies. It was near impossible to land a clean hit from the ground, as proven by when Illusion was forced to evade an attack from the Taraxippi, leaving him open for a deadly strike from the boss, one that just barely clipped him and sent him spinning through the air.

His flight didn't last long, and soon he found himself crashing through several stray clouds, slowing him down just enough to allow him to re-orient himself and launch himself back at the Girgashiy, hooking on with the Crisis skill and reeling himself in.

...And delivering three strong hits aided by his speed and momentum, the third of which slamming with a downwards strike that actually managed to send it off-balance.
Just long enough for him to take advantage and recover from his own wounds.

Stunned wasn't quite the right word to describe Illusion's current state. It was more like he was barely conscious, struggling to even open his eyes.
The few glimpses of the battle that he could catch were that of Maker's clone jumping at the boss responsible for his condition, only for it to have had enough, and immediately catch it with a backhand that surely must've destroyed it.

And now it was heading his way...

Get up, you idiot!

The unicorn's eyes re-opened, just in time for him to see the creature's foot coming down on him, right before he rolled and scrambled away from the danger, losing his hat in the process.
That wasn't the only thing he ended up losing in the confusion. His gaze soon turned to a bright picture laying on the ravaged ground not too far from his original position. His photo. Their photo.

Apparently, he wasn't the only one to notice. Before he could so much as blink, the Girgashiy was quick to stamp on that as well, going so far as to grind it into the dirt, likely as some kind of sign of superiority.

Needless to say, nobody was happy about this, least of all Illusion.

Without any warning, bright magical strings shot out from his staff as he used the Crisis skill, pulling him towards the Girgashiy's face as he then unloaded a Heat Buster right into it's face, as before, and using the blast to propel him off and into the air.
However, the boss wasn't going to stay on the ground anymore, and with a powerful beat of it's wings, it leaped into the air after him, it's own weapon raised, ready to strike him down. This was dodged via a quick teleport, and the boss flew right past him and higher into the air as he re-appeared not too far away, launching another blast of string and attaching himself to one of it's wings as it went by.

He remained attached for several moments as reeled himself in, picking up enough momentum for his next tactic. Teleporting while keeping said momentum, all in order to slam a magically infused blow, [glow=blue,2,300]Blaze[/glow], directly into the Girgashiy's head with that much more power, causing it to stumble in it's flight as he launched himself away.

In short, the battle had been taken to the skies, and was starting to get even more furious than before.

Praise. The moment Illusion had heard it was the moment his ego purred in appreciation. Or something along those lines as he tried to look modest about this accomplishment.
However, he quickly discarded these thoughts and simply cringed once pink-mane essentially smashed her face into the door. Come to think of it... they hadn't exchanged names yet, have they?

"Uh... I think it's less that we solved a puzzle, and more that we just made it functional again."
Illusion had stated, inspecting the door for a few moments before turning to the rest of the room with the symbol in mind.
"It's more likely there's something else that opens it. Something that simply acts as key. Either that, or there's a switch somewhere that acts as one by unlocking it."

Unfortunately, such a thing could be anywhere, hidden among who knows how many fakes and traps. His magic wasn't going to help out so much in that regard.
"Think of back in those ancient times, when ponies probably had to traverse these temples numerous times. The key or switch should be right nearby, easy to access to those who know about it. It only makes sense, I'd say."
