Gotta admit, was one heck of a trolling considering pretty much everyone who got involved fell for it. Even I'm a bit ashamed to have as well.  :c

Spoiler: show
As for the episode, I will admit I think there may have been a bit too much music, but that's less because of how many songs there were and more that I think it should have been a two-part episode that they compressed into a single episode, and that's why everyone thinks it felt rushed.

Honestly, I wasn't surprised at all about how Twilight's actual transformation was presented. I've thought for a while that an Alicorn transformation is more a result of pre-existing power and ability rather than an enhancement of pre-existing power and ability, which this episode pretty much confirmed for me. And to explain cadence, my answer is she's a descendant of the actual lineage of the crystal empire so that's how I see why she was an Alicorn at such a young age.

As for what twilight is the princess of, I think she's the princess of Magic and Friendship. A bit direct and literal answer but makes a lot of sense when you consider both her natural abilities and her experiences with her friends, many of which would not have been possible without them.

not necessarily. cutie marks could easily be covered by clothing, and masquerade balls are notoriously dressy when it comes to clothing. plus coat and mane colors are only a useful indicator without a visible mark if the pony has a unique color combination compared to every other pony (but you know they'd match at least one pony to get that "you're not who we're looking for" joke in).

Not to mention they could just do what they did in Too Many Pinkie Pies and ignore the blatantly obvious just to push the story.

It's ok. I am well aware that a lot of their toys have coincided with the show for the most part and that they have released some plenty before the actual relative episode aired. Get the obvious sellers out first then start working on extra ideas and such.

Was just pointing out that they don't actually have to match an upcoming or existing episode if they have an idea for a toy that they think will sell but won't fit in the show they'll make it, but they'll of course still prioritize stuff relating to the show because that's what people will want when they see the relevant episodes.

Spoiler: show
That said, a masquerade episode would be interesting if done right, or maybe a spoof on the phantom of the opera or something. Could probably think of more possibilities, but it's 1AM here and my brain's all fuzzy.

Of course it is entirely possible that they could be just toys and nothing more. Hasbro's toy department isn't restricted to just making stuff from episodes only. The more designs and variants they make regardless of what happens in the show, the more money for Hasbro. They are primarily interested in how well their toys sell after all, the show's popularity is just a bonus.

Well she had to earn the nickname "Rainbow Crash" somehow.

She may be the best flier in Equestria, but you don't learn how to pull off all the crazy tricks she does without messing up a -lot.-

Of course now I want to see a collection of every crash she's done in the series because that would be hilarious to watch.

Spoiler: show
The weather in the Crystal Empire is perfect, the place was just recently cleaned, and attention to details were the number one priority. Somehow, the inspector gets splashed on twice on her way to the castle. I swear those puddles came out of nowhere with the sole purpose of getting splashed on her the exact moment she was passing by by some running carriage or pony. :P

Spoiler: show
Considering how much water they probably used to polish the sheer mass of crystal structures it wouldn't surprise me if puddles built up here and there before being cleaned up themselves.

It was also interesting to actually see more family members for the main characters, and it would seem that the rainbow mane is a genetic inheritance. This makes me wonder though, considering how unique that coloration is when compared to just about every other pony, you would think that Dash's family would stand out a little more than they actually seem to.

Oh good Lord. I can't stop laughing. I honestly think Chrystalis and Sombra are best utilized remaining as villains, but between the looks on their faces and those on the six's faces, just...wow.  lol

I will admit it is easy to forget who the show is really targeted towards from time to time, but that goes to show just how good the show's developers really are at what they do. They have managed to create a kids show originally intended for young girls that unintentionally happened to have an appeal that drew in a far greater audience from just about every age group and gender.

It's a little bit mind blowing when you take step back and actually look at it as a whole.

I never really saw Alicorns as overpowerd. Powerful, yes. No question there, but the ones we've seen so far have really only had enough ability to rule over nations. They aren't able to rule the whole world near as we can tell, they aren't unbeatable, they even have things that they're afraid of and, for all their power, they can't overcome.

Also, denial is only accurate if the person in question refuses to acknowledge something even if they know it's true. Some people genuinely think it's a good idea, others genuinely don't care, while others genuinely believe it would be a bad thing. We all have different opinions on it and that's alright, and we really should just wait until whatever happens, happens.
192
Yeah, not sure what else can be said about it. At this point we're all just going to have to wait and see what happens.
193
No offense taken, but it's not really denial either. I like the show because it is fun to watch. I have always been like this with everything I do to have fun long before I even knew the show existed. I'd rather put my enjoyment of something over over-thinking a change to the point where it really does change how I see something. To me, Twilight becoming an Alicorn is just a continuation of a long story that I enjoy, rather than a complete change in the story itself.

Heck, a temporary change for Twilight like this actually accomplishes a few things. There's the fact that it's temporary which keeps the fans who wouldn't accept the change happy by changing everything back to normal afterward. Then you have the "what if?" scenario I mentioned earlier giving us a look at how things might be if they were completely different from the MLP universe we have come to know. Lastly, there's the fact that even a temporary transformation gives Hasbro an excuse to make Twilight Alicorn toys, and regardless of how the fanbase feels the toys are the reason the show exists in the first place.

As for your thoughts on what will happen, that is certainly a possibility and I honestly can't wait to find out what really happens.
194
Yeah, I found that summary last night and I'm beginning to think the same thing. I will admit changing Twilight into an Alicorn permanently at this point in the series would be a questionable move, but not necessarily a bad one if it and everything following is done right, and I would continue to watch the show regardless because I love watching it.

Spoiler: show
But yeah, after reading that it sounds like the change is only going to be temporary for the course of the episode and sounds like it's more intended to be a "what if?" scenario. Plus the upcoming coronation I don't think will involve Twilight either as I've been seeing a lot of stuff for a new baby Alicorn showing up so something tells me it will likely be more for her instead.

Either way, I'd rather love something for what it is rather than dislike it for what it is not.
195
Depends really. Twilight becoming an Alicorn is, I think, more akin to an "upgrade" you see in a lot of shows where a character gains a new power level or achieves a new status and such.

End of series character developments are usually massive shifts in a character's life that make it difficult to carry on the show as-is because their life will never be the same. While Twilight becoming a Princess and Alicorn is a big change in her life, as long as she retains the same personality and nothing changes between her and her friends I don't see this being quite that massive a change.
196
Considering how a lot of things from early on in the series tied into bigger stories later on I think that a lot of what is happening in the show now has been planned for a long time already and, while it may not seem like it on the more "episodic" episodes, I would say that they're doing a pretty good job at making a rather intricate and surprisingly detailed story.

If you take a step back and look at everything that has happened in the show so far even some seemingly little things have had a place in the bigger picture.

You know what? No more mixed feelings! I'm pretty relaxed about it now. lol

Haha, but seriously, I'm calm now. ^-^

That was hilarious.

Regardless of what happens, one thing I can guarantee is that it will most certainly not be the end of the fandom. If the fandom falls from such a simple thing as this it wasn't a very strong fandom to begin with (which I know is not true  :]).

Spoiler: show
Honestly, as long as the episode is well-written, fun to watch and make sense I don't really mind if Twilight becomes an Alicorn.

At first I will admit I was a bit skeptical about the possibility as I felt that Alicorns were a bit too unique and powerful to be just thrown around like that. However, as I thought more about it I realized that Alicorns weren't really as powerful as people seem to think they are.

Starting off with episode one Celestia directed Twilight and her soon-to-be friends to find the Elements of Harmony because, as stated when Discord returns, she no longer can use their power. Add in her disappearance once Nightmare Moon returned and I get the feeling that she was no match for her sister without the Elements.

Same thing when Discord returns, she states that she can no longer wield the Elements as Twilight and her friends do and for the most part during that episode all she is able to do is sit back and hope the six can succeed. Indirectly helping when she sends the letters back to Twilight. She didn't even catch the subtle hint in Discord's riddle that was meant to completely throw them off (granted none of them stuck around to think very hard on it to understand the riddle in its entirety so that part may be forgiven).

With Hearth's Warming Eve came the realization that the special talents of Celestia and Luna are pretty much what groups of Unicorns had been doing for centuries, but instead of requiring multiple ponies only two (and later one) were capable of doing so. Add in the statement elsewhere in the series that a Unicorn's magic is usually very generic and only tends to excel at whatever the Pony's special talent is, which is something I would assume extends to Alicorns as well (in other words, very standard magic made strong primarily through their longevity).

Then comes the Canterlot Wedding where she is beaten most soundly by Chrysalis (granted who's magic was boosted at the time), but the fact that she was not only beaten but, near as I could tell, injured and later incapacitated in a cocoon shows that she is not all-powerful. Coupled with the addition of Aging spells a few episodes later makes me think that while Alicorns may be immortal due to being unaging, they are certainly not invulnerable.

Lastly, with the addition of the Cyrstal Empire and Celestia's attempt at making Discord an ally of Equestria I see a case more of building a base of power. Something tells me Celestia has seen something on the future horizon that is making her want to build up very powerful allies which means, whatever is coming, it is something that she doesn't feel Equestria could handle on its own.

The culmination of all those realizations in retrospect makes me realize that, while having Twilight Sparkle become an Alicorn would be a little weird at first, it's not so much a jump in power as it is a jump in status. I honestly don't think she will become any more powerful than she already is (which she very much is), the addition of wings is just an aesthetic change to denote a higher status in my mind. Kind of like all those fancy clothes and pointless trinkets aristocrats used to wear. Nowhere close to the deification people seem to think they achieve.

Yeah, hit me pretty hard there too. Made worse because I've actually put my imagination to use simulating what it would be like to live for unusual lengths of time.
