The year is 2 AI, After Invasion.
Equestria has fallen. The Corrupted came, and overran Canterlot in one fell swoop. The Princesses disappeared, leaving their subjects to fend for themselves. One by one, cities began to fall, not just in Equestria, but in countries around the world. Doing what they could, the Mane 6 came together to use the powers of the Elements of Harmony.
They failed.
The Elements shattered, turning to dust as the six were forced back at the Battle of Ponyville. A majority of the Equestrian Military fell that day, the rest of them scattering quickly in the face of the overwhelming might of the corrupted ponies they once called friends. The Mane6 worked together, and formed three Safe Zones.
Sky District, located near the ruins of Manehattan, and the home for all Pegasi after their floating cities were destroyed. Floating in the air, high in the sky about the Sky District is the last remaining Cloud-Fortress. Formed to protect this final cloud fortress, the Rangers protect it with their lives. Fortifying and building, towns springing up under the protection of the Floating Fortress, Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy formed the Sky District Safe Zone.
Earth District, located on the old Apple Family homestead. When the corruption came and the Battle of Ponyville was lost, the Apple Family was forced to flee. However, Applejack and Big Mac were forced to make a choice: Granny Smith, who was too slow to keep up with them, or Applebloom, who had been knocked unconscious during the battle. Knowing that she was old, and wouldn't be able to help, Granny Smith opted to stay, and wait out her final hours while her grand children escaped to safety. When the Apple Family returned with Zecora and the Zebra clans at their side, they found Granny Smith's body... under neath two dozen Corrupted corpses. In celebration, a statue was made by Rarity, out of a single massive diamond, and placed in the newly-dubbed Earth District Safe Zone by Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Applebloom and Big Mac.
Magic District, located at the foot of what was once known as Dragon Mountain. Leading the remnants of the Equestrian High Council, Mage's Academy, and Military, twilight found herself needing a bastion. A faith to go behind. Creating the Celestial Order, she clung to the hope that one day, the Princesses would return. Crowned Archmagister of the Order, Twilight turned the mountain into a massive fortress, protected against foes, with several smaller towns at the base. Magic, lost during the attack, grew faster than before with the help of the Deer, and soon a new Academy was formed. And the Celestial order, discovering the magic the princesses had used to control the sun and moon, focused on fighting the Corruption threat. Their new fortress was dubbed the Magic District Safe Zone by Twilight and Rarity.
it is two years, after the advent of the Districts, and still, Corruption is an enigma. No cure has been found, except by the Purifiers, an Inquisition-like part of the Order, now searches for traces of the Corruption in the towns around the three Safe Zones. Winter is coming, and without Cloudsdale, Pegasi cannot control the weather; meaning that the winter this year will be the worst yet.Only the Earth District seems to have enough food for all its people, leaving the Mane 6 to wonder how the other two districts will survive the coming cold...

Frozen looked at each of the Corrupt that surrounded him, "Come on... Show me what you've got. You shades of ponies once forgotten!" He shouted at them, pulling out a vial of liquid. He levitated the vial high in the air and let it drop down. The moment that it hit the ground, a bright light surged forth. The Corrupt hissed and squealed in pain as their shadowy forms vaporized in the light.
Asterian lay motionless on the ground. A chance encounter with brigands on the road led to losing all he had. He awakens with Merriweather sitting beside him.
"Ugh... My head... Come on, let's get out of here."
He stumbled to his hooves and began to walk. The bitter winter air nipped away at his morale, draining him of his strength with each step. He had nowhere to go, and nowhere to call home.

He feels that something is not quite right...
Frozen looked behind him, thinking that all was clear... Then he saw the Corrupt Brutes, "You've got to be BUCKING kidding me!" He shouted as he hauled flank in the opposite direction, shouting, "Bad day, bad day, bad day, bad day!"
"Winter is coming..." Laebenal said quietly when she entered her home cave. She walked a bit further inside and sat next to her friend who was lying there. "Don't worry. I'll keep you safe." She said to him. "Laebenal... I won't survive this winter with a broken leg. And we are running low on food anyway." The pony lying on the floor said. "But Pale Flare... I can take care of you. And if we run out of food we can always steal it from that camp." Laebenal said to Pale Flare. "Stealing is never the solution... Listen... Vincent didn't survive last winter and I won't survive this. You can still save yourself by moving elsewhere... It's too dangerous to live here anymore." Pale Flare said sadly. "Don't say things like that! We will find a way to live, you don't need to die..." Laebenal said almost crying. "Laebenal... Please go... I don't want your life to end because of me. Go to that camp you always planned to steal food you will be safe there." Pale Flare said. "But..." Laebenal said. "Go! When you still can..." Pale Flare shouted at Laebenal who turned her back at him. "I'll never forget you... I promise." Laebenal said quietly and started running away from the cave to the nearby forest.
Asterian had been walking through the wastelands for nearly two hours, and the place was completely devoid of life, save for Merriweather.
"Merri, fly up there. See if you can see anything."
The snowy owl spread her wings and took to the skies. She followed Asterian from above, looking for any living thing.
"Anything, Merri?"
The owl shook her head. Asterian began to despair.
"Help!"

His unease has grown strong.
"I still can try to help him if I get help from somepony..." Laebenal thought and slowed down a bit. She looked around to see if there was anything. "I don't think I can find anypony in here because of the Corrupted..." She thought and started running again. "I have to get out from here before they find me."
He lost track of time as he walked through the snow. His pace had slowed to a crawl, and he was beginning to freeze. Hypothermia was close behind him...
"M-Merri! C-C-Come d-d-down here, q-quick!"
She did as her master asked.
"G-G-Gather some t-t-tinder f-f-for a f-f-fire."
She flew off in search of wooden slivers while he gathered some befallen limbs. The was a small formation of rocks that had a clearing from the snow, and offered some shelter from the winds. She came back five minutes later with a small amount of wood in her claw, with it dripping of flammable sap.
"Th-Th-Thank you..."
He struggled to light the fire before all strength left him.

All hope is fleeting from him. He feels weak.
Laebenal got out from the forest and is now standing on a road. "Great... I don't remember this road.." She thought and started to run along the road. "I don't know where this road leads but it leads somewhere, I'm sure about that."
After several tries at lighting the fire manually, Asterian ignites the wood with a thermal control spell. The fire seems to soothe his sore muscles and relieve him of his stress. Merriweather happily flies over to him and sits down beside him.

After a much needed rest and recovery, Asterian extinguishes the fire. The second he does so, he begins to decipher a vague sight off in the distance. It looks like a pony, but it couldn't be corrupt... Could it?
"Merriweather, could you see who that is?"
The owl spreads her wings and takes to the skies, returning mere moments later with a definitive look on her face. Asterian sets off towards the pony, hoping it means his salvation.

Laebenal is walking along the road hoping there would be something ahead soon.
"Hello?!"
Asterian calls out to the figure ahead, trying to get its attention.

Laebenal stops and listens. "What was that?" She thinks.

Asterian thinks he has the pony's attention, and he can now decipher it's a mare that appears as lost as he is.
"Hay! Over here!"

Laebenal turned her head to see Asterian and backed off a bit. "It looks like a pony but is it corrupted?" She thinks.
"Go, Merri. Let her know it's safe."
The owl quickly took off from Asterian's shoulder and hovered in front of the mare. Asterian himself wasn't far behind, and he approached the two.
"Apologies if I started you. I am Asterian Starfall, and this is Merriweather, my faithful companion. Might I ask who you are?"

Laebenal stays quiet and looks at the owl. "I don't know you..." She says after a while.
"I know you don't, but we'll both be dead lest we stick together."
Merriweather rustled her feathers. The cold was beginning to get to her now as well.
"Well, come on anyway. We need to find shelter. We won't last out here in the cold."

Laebenal looks far at the road and shakes her head. "Fine..." She says quietly and follows Asterian.
Merriweather flies over to accompany the nameless mare. She looks thoughtfully into her eyes as if trying to say something.
"Don't mind Merri, she's like seeing new ponies."
Asterian whistles softly and the owl comes to rest on her master's shoulder.
"What did you say your name was again?"

Laebenal stays quiet a while like she's thinking whether to say it or not. "Laebenal..." She says quietly.
"Laebenal... Nice to meet you. Hmm..."
Asterian notices there's is a cave mouth in the side of a cliff, which is roughly half a mile away. Shelter for the night. He points it out to Laebenal.
"It may not be much, but it'll be home for the time being."
The wind begins to pick up as the two head off towards the safety of the cave.

Laebenal follows Asterian while looking at Merri at the same time.
Having arrived at the cave entrance, Asterian notices a strange carving near the opening.
"Hmm... It's an inscription. 'When all seems dark and all seems lost, come inside and rest.' Wonder what that means... Anyway, you two get comfortable, I'll get a fire started."
Merriweather hovers into the cave while Asterian gathers some wood.

Laebenal lies down on the cave floor and goes through the day inside her head.
Having gotten the wood he needed, Asterian magically lights a fire. It illuminates the cave ever so slightly to reveal a long passageway in the cave that seems to have no end. Merriweather hops over to the fire and shakes the snow out of her feathers.
"He he he, you okay there?"

"This cave is smaller than ours..." Laebenal says quietly while looking at the ceiling of the cave.
"Well it's not exactly cozy, but it's what we've got for now... Hello, what's that?"
Asterian looks down into the cave passageway and notices a small glint, like that of a mirror reflecting light.
"I'm going to go see what's down there..."
He ignites his horn and begins to walk slowly towards the glint.

Hope has been kindled within him.
Laebenal shakes her head and looks at Asterian walking towards the glint.
The glimmer fades as Asterian walks closer to where he had once seen it.
"Hello?"
There was no response.
"Hel-lo-o?"
Once again, no response. Asterian began to question his judgement...

He has a vague sense of anxiety.
Laebenal sighs and gets up. She walks to the passageway to see how Asterian is doing.

The three unlikely companions take rest by the fire. One by one they fall asleep...

Laebenal is dreaming:
She is standing at a place with no other sources of light than her mane and tail. She can only see darkness around her. "H-hello?" She asks but nothing responses. She looks around herself to see if there would be anything but all she can see is darkness. "Anyone here?" She asks and starts to walk forward. Again she gets no response from the dark. "Where am I?" She asks more from herself than someone else. After walking forward for a while she can see a small source of light far from her. She starts running towards it hoping it will help her to know where she is or what is going on. "Watch out..." She can heard a sound from distance. "What? Who is there?" She asks and stops. She tries to see where the voice came from and hears another one. "Beware..." "What? What is going on?" She asks wondering what are these voices and what are they trying to tell her. "No..." "What do you mean?" She asks trying to see anything that could have made those voices. "Stop..." "The light." "What? What about the light?" She asks now a bit scared from all these voices. "Beware..." "Don't go..." "I don't understand." She says. "RUN..." As the last voice had faded the light started to grow brighter and started to move towards her. "What is going on?" She asks and starts to run away from the light. But the light was faster and she didn't get away. She now sees only pure white everywhere and can't move. "Too late..." A bright light almost blinded her and she heard loud scream.
She woke up breathing heavily. She looks around ad now sees the cave an Asterian and his owl sleeping peacefully around the fire. "What was that?" She thinks and after calming down and trying to think what did just happen she decides to go back to sleep.
Asterian is dreaming, back in a time when Equestria was still peaceful...
He and Amethyst are sitting in a meadow outside Ponyville. He stares into her beautiful hazel eyes...
Suddenly, a scream echoes from the east, and the Corrupt are rampaging towards the town. Asterian yells, "Go! Get out of here!", but Amethyst just sits there smiling, as if though nothing was going on. She asks him, "Why do you look so scared? Is something wrong, sweetheart?" The Corrupt were nearing them, and Asterian had no choice but to leave his beloved behind.
He awoke with a cold sweat running down his face, only to find he was safely inside the cave.
"Fire's nearly out..." He whispered to himself. After reviving it with more wood, he checked on Merriweather and Laebenal to make sure they were okay, then he went back to sleep himself...
He wasn't sure were Amethyst was, but he only could hope and pray that she was okay.

Laebenal had some trouble sleeping the end of the night and she woke up first. She got up and started to think what was the dream she saw about. "It was so strange..." She thought and tried to remember every detail from that dream. "What was that light and why did the voices want me to get away from it?" She closed her eyes and sat down thinking hard the meaning of her dream.
Asterian awoke to the sound of his owl's hooting. Laebenal was still there, and it comforted him that he had her trust.
"So Laebenal... Feeling okay?"

"Yes..." Laebenal said and opened her eyes.
"Good to hear. So... what now? I don't know where we are."
Asterian wasn't lying. His encounter with the brigands cost him his effects, along with his map.

"I was looking for the near camp of "survivors" but I don't know anymore..." Laebenal said and she stood up.
"Darn... It seems we're stuck here."

Asterian felt compelled to find out what it was, and he allowed his curiosity best him. He approached the glimmer...

The glimmer was shown to be coming from armored guards. They drew their weapons at Asterian.
"Who goes there?"
"Sorry about that. I'm Asterian Starfall, this is Laebenal, and my companion, Merriweather. We've been lost for some time now and were just trying to find shelter."
The guard responded, "Well then, you've come to the right place..."
He opened the door behind him to reveal a hidden city. The Unicorn Safe Zone.

The Corrupt flee at his approach.
"Why didn't we find this earlier..." Laebenal thought and walked closer.
"Laebenal, Merri... We made it... We're safe!"
Asterian hugs Laebenal tightly.

"I hope so..." Laebenal says looking awkwardly at Asterian hugging her.
Asterian backs away, with a sheepish smile on his face. After an awkward few moments, he walks down into the city, where hopefully things can return to normal for him.

Laebenal walks to the city too. "How am I trying to get help if I don't speak with anypony..." She thinks
As Asterian approached the city, he noticed a small booth on the outside of another gate.
"Hello?"
A young Pegasus mare peeked out from the booth. She had a brown mane and tail, a pink coat, and Asterian thought she looked familiar...
"Amethyst? Is that you?"
Her mouth dropped open as she recognized him.
"Asterian!"
"Amethyst!"
The two began to cry after these words. Such luck they had that they could be together once more!

He can sense the favor of Celestia upon him.
Laebenal sighs and walks to Asterian. "I hate to interrupt but can you help me with one thing?" She asks from him shyly.
"Huh? Oh, sure! What is it?"

The stars shine upon the hour of his coming.
"Well, umm... My friend is out there with a broken leg and I can't get him here alone..." Laebenal says.
Having heard this, a guard steps over to the group.
I'm sorry, but it's too dangerous for you to go out there alone... which is why we're dispatching a rescue team to follow you. The others must stay here.
Asterian nodded slightly and held out his hoof, his Merriweather on it.
"Here, she can guide you through the darkest of times and through this blizzard."
She hopped onto Laebenal's head as if though to say, "Let's get bloody going!"

The blessings of all that is good goes with him.
"Thanks." Laebenal says and leads the rescue team out from the city back to the forest.
"Safe passage, my friend."
Asterian watched as they went back up the incline and out of sight. He then began to talk with Amethyst, having not seen her in ages. Her voice was like music long forgotten to his ears.

Laebenal led the group to the road and stopped for a while. "Hmm... Which way was it..." She thought and decided to to go right. "This way." She said and started running.
Asterian and Amethyst were happily talking in the city.
"I'm just glad I got to see you again."
"Me too..."
They sit down on a bench staring lazily into each other's eyes. How they missed each other...

Laebenal stopped suddenly. "Wait, what was that?" She said and started to listen carefully. "I think there is corrupted near..." She said after a while.
Merriweather takes to the sky and hovers over a figure. It is Laebenal's unnamed friend, but there are Corrupt that are slowly approaching him.
((Just saying that he is inside a cave and probably won't come out alone with broken leg when there is corrupted outside... But yeah, corrupted can get to him.))

"They are going to get him! We must hurry!" Laebenal shouted and started to run towards the corrupted.
The party rushes forth, quickly getting the wounded stallion out of harm's way. But it was close. One of the guards was grabbed by the Corrupt, being dragged back into the crowd.
"AH! GO! LEAVE ME-AAAAH!"
The Corrupted creatures growled at the sight of the team leaving with their meal.
"You came back..." Pale Flare said a bit surprised. "I told you I won't leave you." Laebenal said to him. "But now we need to get back to the safe camp before they come after us." Laebenal said and the team started to move quickly back towards the city.

The team ran to the forest from the road and they are now getting closer to the cave that leads to the city.
Asterian and Amethyst had gone to the boundary line of the city to get some fresh air.
"It's so weird..."
"What's that?"
"It's like you're back from the dead."
"Hay, it'll take more than the Corrupt to keep me from you."
Amethyst blushes as the two nuzzle each other.

His spirit flies free.
The team arrives at the cave leading to the city. "We need to get you to the hospital." One of the guards say to Pale Flare. "I know." He says to the guard. "I'll come meet you there but first I return this owl." Laebenal says to Pale Flare and walks away from the rest of the team when they enter the city. "Come, Merri." She says to Merri and they go look for Asterian.
Asterian and Amethyst find that Laebenal has returned safely. They take notice of a wounded stallion being carried in magically by the guards, who Asterian presumes is her friend.
"I see you found hi- Oh my gosh..."
Upon seeing the extent of his injuries, Asterian stops worrying about his friend and begins to help the unnamed stallion.
*Quietly to self* "Fractured humorous, multiple lacerations to his right flank leg with arterial bleeding..."
Asterian magically seals the wounds off by freezing them. The bleeding stops, but he is still in agony.
"Guys, you need to get him to the hospital quickly. If he's not there in thirty minutes... *Drops voice so Laebenal can't hear* ... he's dead."
Asterian's Hope/Dread: 2
His heart is free from burden.
One of the guards nods and they run off carrying Pale Flare. "Here's your owl. I better go with him." Laebenal says and turns to the way the guards ran.
Merriweather glides over to her master and sits down on his head.
"Teehee, she's as cute as ever."
"... You're as cute as ever."
Amethyst blushed pink at these words. after a few awkward moments, she said...
"... Would you like to see the town?"
"As long as I'm with you, I don't care what we do..."
The two skip merrily down the street with not a care in the world.

"Atleast somepony is having great time..." Laebenal thought and ran after the guards.
"... and that's... pretty much everything."
"I can't believe they built this place in two years... It's beautiful."
They sit down on the cave floor looking up at its ceiling. It seemed unreachable from the ground.
"Wow..."

In the hospital:
"I told you to leave me to save yourself..." Pale Flare said to Laebenal. "I did but I came back. Now we can both survive." Laebenal said to him. "Well, first I should get my leg back to good condition." Pale Flare said and grinned. "Anyway, who was that pony with the owl?" Pale Flare asked from Laebenal. "He is Asterian. We got here together." Laebenal said to him. "I'm glad that you are making new friends. Go now. I should get some rest to heal faster." Pale Flare said. "I don't know about that and sure. I'll come meet you again soon." Laebenal said and started walking away. "Wait." Pale Flare said and Laebenal stopped. "I just want to say thanks for coming back to save me." He said to her. "As I said before, I'll never leave you." Laebenal said and left the room smiling.
Asterian and Amethyst were waiting outside for Laebenal.
"Is he going to be okay?"

"He'll be fine." Laebenal says to them.
Asterian sighs in relief.
"Okay then... So what now that we're here?"

Laebenal shrugs and starts walking. "I don't know..." She says.
"Well... Why not hang out with us?"

"It's too dangerous to wander around alone..." Laebenal thought and then said "Okay."
As if though having read her mind, Amethyst said, "It's okay to be off on your own in this place... at least as safe as it could be."
"Hmm... Are you sure you're alright, Laebenal? You look like you've seen a ghost."

Amethyst leads them down the city's winding and twisting roads to one of many houses near the edge of the massive cavern.
"Well, here it is..."
She opened the door to reveal a fireplace, lavish living room, and a gorgeous kitchen.
"Wow... Makes me feel like nothing's happened in the past two years."
"Well, make yourselves at home, and uh, Asteri?"
He looks over to her. She bashfully scraps her hoof across the ground as if though she knows something.
"I have something for you... Wait here."

"Smaller house than the ones that I've seen. Well, I can't complain... I live in a cave." Laebenal thinks wkile looking around.
After a few minutes, Amethyst returns wearing a silver bracelet adorned with a single, flawless amethyst gem in the center. She puts it on Asterian's left hoof.
"Asterian, I want you to have this, so you'll remember me everywhere you go."

Amethyst begins to cry herself as the two collapse into each other's arms.

"Why almost every of my "normal" pony friends act like this..." Laebenal thinks and sits down.
Asterian senses something is going on with Laebenal...
"What's wrong? You act as if though you've seen something like this happen a million times."

"Laebenal, you don't have to stay with me all the time, but I'm staying here for now. I haven't seen Amethyst since the Fall. I want to be with her for now."

Amethyst comes back carrying several china cups filled with the dark liquid. Asterian levitates his.
"To friends who can never be apart."
