QuoteMoscow (PNN) -- A meteor streaked through the skies above Russia's Urals region Friday morning before exploding with a flash and boom that shattered glass in buildings and left about 1,000 ponies hurt, authorities said.
Described by NASA as a "tiny asteroid," the meteor's explosion created a blast in central Russia equivalent to 300,000 tons of TNT, the space agency's officials said Friday, adding that the incident was a once-in-100-years event.
The injured included more than 200 foals. Most of those hurt are in the Chelyabinsk region, though the vast majority of injuries are not thought to be serious.

About 3,000 buildings were damaged -- mostly with broken glass -- as a result of the shock waves caused by the blast, the state-run RIA Novosti news agency said.
Vladimir Stepanov, of the National Center for Emergency Situations at the Russian Interior Ministry, earlier told state media that hospitals, kindergartens and schools were among those affected.
(I have Ponify, so ponies = people etc.)
there was alot of damage, and from what I heard there were 3 different areas where the military were deployed
ill be interested to see the final damage report
Wait, so the shock waves can destroy building windows... But not car windows.
Real life logic.
im sure some car windows broke, considering the number of injured
and think about it, car windows should be stronger in case of a car accident so the glass damage would be kept at a minimum
That looked so pretty... I would have been amazed. I like comets... :3
I feel sorry for those injured though... Hope they'll be ok... :c

Car windows are treated to be shatterproof. so that when a car accident occurs there will be minimum glass injury. The same goes for a shockwave. its nearly impossible to shatter a car window with sound.
It's amazing that nobody lost their lives :')
I feel bad for the injured , but at least it didn't wipe us out like the dinosaurs.

luckily there was a much larger meteor that missed the earth by less than 17000 miles (thats closer than most satellites that go around the earth)
In Soviet Russia stars shoot for you.
Too soon?
I knew that the shockwaves that lightning gives off can shatter glass, but I didn't know that a meteor could give off such shockwaves. :I Come to think of it, I never thought about how sonic booms can affect things around them. After all, the shockwave comes from breaking the sound barrier, right?
Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's where the shockwave comes from I assume it would shatter glass as well, like the meteor shockwaves.
that's... wow. I hope the injured got all the help they needed...
Was it a sonic boom, or a sonic rainboom? B)
