Post by: NinjaxTheHog on 2013 Feb 09, 23:43:00
So i wanted to make a picture of my character Ninjax The Hedgehog but the only program i have is ms paint (and everyone knows how awful that progam is.) Does anyone know a good drawing program that i can make the picture in. Any help would be great thanks

Gimp is a pretty good program though it's a bit complicated to use unless you've used more advanced drawing programs before.

MS Paint isn't that bad, that was all I used when I started drawing, particularly Sonic the Hedgehog fancharacters, actually
My old dA account where you can find said Sonic art (http://alecmacbean12.deviantart.com)

As for drawing, gimp's good as Trege said, or paint.net, or inkscape, which is what I use for vectors.

To my knowledge, Gimp is probably your best choice for a free program.
However, I can't vouch for it myself, as I've never used it.

If you're willing to spend money, Paint Tool SAI is a very good program for a cheap price. You can get a 31 day trial of it.
If you want to get really pricey, there's always Photoshop.  X3

Well, yeah it's what I do! ^-^

I got all of these programs now... But having to learn how to use them... It's scary. lol

I got... SAI, Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, InDesign, GIMP and of course, Inkscape. X3

I already said what I needed to say. But I'll explain my reasons.

GIMP is really easy once you get used to it. I used the Shift+Click method for straight lines and eraser/Select to smoothen those lines. Then I moved to using Paths, which is like Vectoring. Very easy to use after getting used to.

Photoshop is one of the best ones and most popular ones. Aside popularity, it's a wonderful program with many great tools. I use a tablet, and it uses the Pressure Sensitivity of the tablet to determine brush thickness.

I've only heard that InkScape is really good too. Never used it. Looks complicated. But I might try vectors on it soon. :P

Unsure about Paint.NET to be honest. SAI, it seems great for shading.

Eeyup, you only need like four to six tools to get things done. :P

And if you get the Ellipse by five points extension, you'll barely use the Ellipse tool. lol

I wanna make a vector of you vectoring in Inkscape using Gimp to make the original vector :3

Six? How is that even possible?

I use only three to four tools.

-Select
-Fill
-Gradients

Photoshop:
-Brush
-Eraser
-Select
-Paint Bucket
-Gradients

Let's see... I use the Select tool, Edit paths by nodes, Ellipse tool (barely), Bezier curves and straight lines, Dropper tool and the Gradient tool.

And then there's the Text tool if I want to add words to it, but that one doesn't count since it's used very rarely. -.-

So... four to six, yeah. (:

How could I have forgotten... Dropper Tool. My best friend for "accurate colors" :P

Possible idea for your current Crystal Julius request. Too bad it's on hold. :l

But I can start sketching any time ovO
