Title: Maplestory thread!!
Post by: Weremetalwolf on 2012 Dec 12, 11:27:13
MapleStory is a free-to-play, 2D, side-scrolling MMORPG, developed by the South Korean company Wizet. Several versions of the game are available for specific countries or regions, and each is published by various companies such as Nexon. Although playing the game is free, some character appearances and gameplay enhancements can be purchased from the "Cash Shop" using real money.
In the game, players travel the "Maple World", defeating monsters and developing their characters' skills and abilities as is typical in role-playing games. Players can interact with others in many ways, such as through chatting, trading and playing minigames. Groups of players can band together in parties to hunt monsters and share the rewards and can also collaborate forming guilds to interact more easily with each other.
In July 2010, the Korean version of the game was completely revised in a patch named the "Big Bang". Other versions followed suit and have since received the Big Bang update. Later in the year, the Korean version received the Chaos update which introduces PvP (player-versus-player) and professions to the game. Lately has arrived the new patch Tempest that allow new players like the kaiser(already on!), the Phantom(on as well!), the Luminous (probably 17th January) and others.
Now I'll shortly describe the classes:
Explorers
Spoiler: show
Explorers are the original classes of MapleStory. These are the main branches of Maplers who fought in the general effort against the Black Mage and his horde of evil monsters. Later, Cygnus Knights and the Heroes, joined the Explorers to lead the battle against the Black Mage.
At level 8 or 10 (depends on the job), Beginners may make the first job advancement and become either a Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Thief, or a Pirate. The game recommends Beginners to make the advancement to a Magician at Level 8, and Level 10 for the other first job advancements.(http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121122124348/maplestory/images/thumb/e/ee/Explorers_intro.png/400px-Explorers_intro.png)
-Warriors
Warriors are a part of Explorers, they use tough melee attacks. They deliver attacks with brutal efficiency and raw strength. Warriors have the highest base HP and the lowest base MP of any class. They belong at the front of a party so they can bring their powerful weapons into battle. A Warrior can wield the widest variety of weapons in the game, from swords and axes to spears and blunt weapons. The Warrior class branches off into three directions depending on what weapon they choose to specialize in.
Fighter/Crusader/Hero
Fighters are the ones who use a One-handed or a Two-handed sword, it's main strength is close-battle combat and powerful blows to shake the enemy.
Page/White Knight/Paladin
Pages naturally have higher MP than the other two warrior classes. They get to infuse the three basic elements into their weapon and also get to increase their MP recovery rate. Once one reaches Paladin, they get the power to infuse their weapon with Holy attributes. This ability turns them from an unwanted party member to a wanted party member due to the ability to attack using the opposing weakness attributes.
Spearman/Dragon Knight/Dark Knight
Spearmen are the ones who use Spear or Polearm to attack. They have a variety of supportive buffs to support their party members.

-Magician
Spoiler: show
Magicians are a part of the Explorers, they make use of magic, unlike the physical-attacking classes. Although they are physically weak and have low HP, magicians are one of the most supportive, popular, and highly recommended classes to take in MapleStory. They are highly respected, and are valuable for Party Quests, Boss Fights, hunting, etc.
Wizard (Fire/Poison)/Mage/Arch Mage
Fire/Poison Wizard, commonly referred to as F/P Mage or simply Fire Mage, is one of the 2nd Job Advancements for the Magician. They can, however, do some of the best damage in this second job, due to the elemental advantage they get when training on monsters who are weak to the fire property.
Wizard(Ice/Lightning)/Mage/Arch Mage
Ice/Lightning Wizard, are one of the 2nd Job Advancements for the Magicians. They are a more popular choice at the second job due to their mob attack, Thunder Bolt. However, excessive use of Lightning can be costly, as an I/L Mage would use more MP than a F/P Mage or Cleric, and more potions would need to be purchased to counteract this.
Cleric/Priest/Bishop
Cleric is a type of Magician who use buffs and holy magic to not only help their teammates, but destroy their enemies as well. They have a skill known as Heal, which restores HP to all 6 party members and harms undead monsters. Due to this skill, Clerics have absolutely no need for HP potions. They also have MP Eater, which at a certain success rate, allows them to drain some of the monster's MP to fuel their own.

-Bowman
Spoiler: show
Bowmen, also known as Archers, are a part of Explorers and are the characters that wield Bows and Crossbows. They use long-range attacks and are capable dealing splash damage. They also have the highest accuracy, thus granting them the ability to fight Bosses earlier than the other classes. Their strength at long-rage combat allows them to defeat creatures much larger than them earlier than other classes. However, they are one of the classes that have the lowest HP, causing them to wash hp or bloodmastering to gain more HP.
Hunter/Ranger/Bow Master
Players have the option of becoming a Hunter for their Second Job Advancement. Hunters are specifically designed to use bows, though it is possible for them to wield crossbows. In 3rd job and particularly 4th job, Hunters are better skilled at taking out single monsters and bossing due to skills such as Hurricane, however, the Sharp Eyes party skill is highly wanted in parties due to the fact it grants a critical chance to the entire party and stacks with previous critical boosts.
Crossbowman/Sniper/Marksman
Players have the option of becoming a Crossbowman for their Second Job Advancement. Crossbowmen are specifically designed to use crossbows, though it is possible for them to wield bows. In 3rd and particularly 4th job, Crossbowmen are better at dealing large amounts of damage due to skills such as Piercing Arrow.

-Thief
Spoiler: show
Thieves are a part of Explorers, they are short-medium range characters mostly using daggers, claws and throwing stars. They are the fastest short range attackers in the game, dealing weak yet many attacks on a foe. They use their natural quickness and agility to navigate the area, trying to gain the upper hand. Generally, Thieves have the highest avoidability and second highest accuracy in the game. Playing them is also quite expensive, especially Assassins that are required to continuously re-charge stars.
Assassin/Hermit/Night Lord
Assasins are users of Claws & Shurikens/Ninja stars. The are alike Bowmen in a sense that they need a supply of ammunition. Unlike Bowmen, Assasins have a variety of different kinds of ammo which don't often from most foes but some can still be bought.
Bandit/Chief Bandit/Shadower
Bandits are close range fighters which use Daggers & Cutters. Bandits have weaker attacks compared to Warriors but are also faster than them. They are more in danger due to having to get up close & personal but don't have to worry about funding as much.

-Pirates
Spoiler: show
The Pirates use Guns, which vary at speed every 5 levels, and Knuckles as their main weapons. Although using the gun gets relatively low hits, the higher hits are more consistent at monsters close to the Pirate's level with the skill Bullet Time.
Brawler/Marauder/Buccaneer
Brawler are close range fighters which use knuckles and punch and kick the foes. They have average HP and do average damage, they are specialized by knockback the foes.
Gunslinger/Outlaw/Corsair
As assassin they are long rage fighters that need a supply of ammo and use guns.

Ultimate Explorer
Spoiler: show
In order to create an Ultimate Explorer, one must first level a Cygnus Knights up to level 120, go through the final job advancement, and complete the quest named "Empress's Grace."
When one speak with the Empress, one will be given the chance to create your Ultimate Explorer.
When creating an Ultimate Explorer you get to type in a new name, chose a 2nd Job Advancement job, face, eye and hair. Ultimate Explorers do not start at the bottom; instead, new Ultimate Explorers begin at level 50 with all the skills and abilities available to an Explorer class of that type has available at that level.
Cygnus Knights
Spoiler: show
The Cygnus Knights are special knights who fought towards one goal - to defeat the Black Mage. The Black Mage was trying to take over the land of Maple World, but this act was stopped by the Cygnus Knights, temporarily. Now it is time for them to rise again and challenge the Black Mage once more.
-Dawn Warriors
With their massive strength and powerful physique, Dawn Warriors (Soul Master) vanquish the enemy in close proximity. They are accompanied by Sol, the spirit of light, especially in combat. Only those equipped with a burning heart, sharp eyes, an even sharper blade, and undying loyalty to the empress are qualified to become a Dawn Warrior.

-Blaze Wizards
Spoiler: show
As expected of any great Magicians, Blaze Wizards (Flame Wizard) posses powerful magic. They can call on Ignis, the spirit of Fire, to fight with them. They can also merge with Ignis to release massive fire magic. Only those who always strive to better themselves and are wary of self and enemy can become a Blaze Wizard.
Blaze Wizards are part of the magician branch of the Cygnus Knights. They use very powerful fire-based magic. They also have the lowest HP of all of the magicians, but they make up for it with lots of MP.

-Night Walker
Spoiler: show
Luck, skill, and being quite cunning separates the Night Walkers from the rest. Though marked and assisted by the spirit of darkness, Umbra, Night Walkers put great importance in independence, which leads some to learn poison skills. Night Walkers serve justice in places where light does not reach, so those who are willing to serve in the shadows may become a Night Walker.
Night Walkers are the thief branch of the Cygnus Knights. They use claws to attack and posses great avoidability.

However, Max DF can only be increased by a newer Demon Aegis, which is acquired after every job advancement AND THEY CAN FLY!

I played it a few months back, but not sure what world I was on.

Seemed ok, but I got a bit bored of it after a few days, like I do with most MMO's.

I miss Maplestory. I played it on and off throughout Middle/High School. It apparently dosen't work for my laptop though, which is a shame.
I was originally a Fire/Poison Mage, but then made an Mechanic and got pretty far. I always played in the Broa server.

I used to love this game, then I found out nexon was a bunch of idiots who don't care about that 90% of their players are hackers, scammers, and just plain jerks, and that nexon just loves money.

Well, in Maplestory there are a lot of players that use special programs to duplicate items and create equipment with ridiculously high values, but lately Nexon is trying to resolve this unpleasant situation banning and eliminating the accounts of the hackers, that's why the game is quite slow. The same goes for the scammers that clone items and resell them to unsuspecting players. Nexon is examining one by one all the accounts, and all those who have outlier are banned.

Iv'e seen pictures, people get constantly d/ced when one occurs, especially on Scania. Reason why Yellonde or Khania are my servers of choice. Since you can play maplestory on steam now, I'll probably download it eventually.

All of These Characters are in Global Maple Story, Broa World. I moved to Broa world for my reasons which was that All of my Friends Left me out in Scania, and To be with the one and only Friend.

Also Adding more information to Cygnus Knights and Explorers. You can make a Ultimate Adventurer with a job of your choice as long as you have a Cygnus Knight Leveled to 120 or Mihile to Level 100 and Of Course you need to get Peridots first before making a Ultimate Adventurer.

The Ultimate Adventurers you make will Start off at Level 50 and comes with a Cygnus' Successor Medal, Empress Fine and Brilliant Equipment Set, Empress' Might Skill, and Cygnus Knight Skill depending on what type of Explorer class you made such as Oz's Flame Gears / Flame for mages, Mihile's Soul Driver / Soul for Warriors, Irena's Wind Piercing / Storm for Archers, Hawkeye's Shark Wave / Lightning for Pirates, and Eckhart's Vampire / Shadow for Thieves.

I have changed some things and added the Ultimate Explorer, I'm also adding the Xenon since I don't have enough space in the main post D:

Xenon
Spoiler: show
Xenon is a member of the Resistance. He is a mixture of Thief and Pirate, therefore using Strength, Dexterity, and Luck as his main stats. With an Energy Sword and a Controller, Xenon uses technology and quick-paced attacks to eliminate his enemies. Currently Unavailable

Luminous update: It seems like Nexon has removed the ability for players to choose the karmic alignment of the Luminous, giving players to choose only the negative karma. Which is a pity, because choosing the good karma you have a bonus when you get experience points.

My Crusader can only deal two strikes doing 3k damage each, I could also use up my combo points to do 11k damage every other minute  :c

I'm on Scania by the way

I know the skill builds though, but for fighters, I never played as one. all that matters with the skill build is maxing out the passives and buffs first after putting a point on a mobbing skill.

for 3rd job skill build, i would suggest putting a point on a intrepid slash and then max combo attack which is needed for advanced combo attack then max either intrepid slash or magic crash. Magic Crash is the important skill for bossing.

You can get Advanced Combo Attack from Hilla, and Normal or Czak, but the drop rate is very low as of right now and you need to be level 120+ to participate hilla runs. For Normal Zak, The safe side that I would do the run on would be level 118+ which I did on my evan before the drop rate was changed.

Just for your own warning that Skill Books are untradeable till you use Scissor of Karma (NX item) on them to make it tradeable or Movement within account in that world once.

I picked him because he looked very awesome , and has an awesome personality.
Anyway i'm usually on renegade on channel 1 also called BluesMusic.

Well if you guys want to be strong, All I know is that a lot of players pick on the primary stat of the class +%, along with all stat +%, for weapons, most likely to be either atk, magic atk, all dmg (total dmg), ignore defense, and boss damage followed by a nebulite with those stats and a successful upgrades.

there's a passive beginner skill called empress' blessing so apprently if you level a cygnus knight including mihile to level 120 followed by doing a noble mind quest, you can get that skill to the max level. for mihiles, they can solo Cygnus Knight Arkarium Easily at higher level. You Just need magic crash, 4-point assault, radiant blast, and max expert sword, and Advanced Final Attack, but if you have exp buffer on mihile, you'll get exp loss upon death except for that instant death attack.

Remember when there were only 4 classes, 4 towns, and sleepywood? It was so hard to level up ( for me at least  X3 ) and it was so cool when you saw someone travel into that sleepywood portal. Now you can easily go in there not too long after making a new character. But i won't be like one of those players saying it was better back in the day, because now everything is so open to the player, with freedom and character customization/job choice, and the speed of experience gain allows for the player to take on the game however they like, such as chilling in the towns chatting with ppl, taking on some cool monsters, exploring the many wonderful environments the game has to offer, all that good stuff.

The phantom says a quote when he gets his second job advancement.
"Wow getting to level 30 was...easier than expected. I remember the world was unforgiving back then."
Not the exact quote , but it was something like it.

Yes it was hard to play the old Maplestory, but it made you feel special if you made it past level 70.

^ that for sure.
I remember a year in the highest players in gms haven't even hit the level cap yet! My poor fire poison mage never got past level 50 after a few years of playing on and off, myself. However, within a more recent summer, I managed to hit level 103 with my mechanic.
It was a lot more slowed down, and I remember being a lot more social in the game than I did now. Nowadays theres story arc quests that gives you 5 free levels, and most classes start you off at level 10.
Not saying it's good or bad, but maplestory is certainly different from how it originally was.

I decided to try the newest GMS Nova Class, it is 100% Magical Girl mixed with Sailormoon, me and my best friend were laughing so hard.  Not because it was girly, but since it  was Nexon trying to fit in a cameo of an anime genre

I usually don't play as females in video games when I have a choice. Not trying to be sexist it's just that since i'm a male I prefer to play as one. However... I just tried angelic buster , but for some reason I refuse not to play as her. Also I go to her hideout place just to hear her song.
For some reason it is very captivating.

well if you're playing as gender locked character, it doesn't matter if you feel weird that you play as one such as Mihile and Angelic Buster. it's all about the looks of the character. for me, most people around me don't find me that i'm weird and play as a female character. it's kind of like this, if you're a male, you can still play as female character like angelic buster. same goes for females that can play as mihile.

when i play as a female character, a lot of people around me find me as male gendered player. how do they find me as a male gendered player? being creative on names of the character.
