Midnight Breeze

Art by Ember-Flames (http://ember-flames.deviantart.com/art/Windy-Night-323026700)

Gender: Male
Race: Earth Pony
Age: Young Adult (Approximately 20-25 in human years)
Special Talent: Tech Savvy

Occupation: Tinker

Personality

Midnight is a very shy and timid stallion, as well as an admitted weakling. Having grown up with no father, nor any other male role-model; he never really learned how to 'Be a Stallion'. As such, he finds that he prefers the company of mares. Accustomed to being alone, Midnight has a very vivid imagination, and is a big dreamer. He is quite eccentric and childish for a full grown stallion, likely do to his lack of a social foalhood. Still, he has a serious side: He is very well read and knowledgeable, where his interests are sparked he can often talk his own jaw sore.

Background

Midnight was born in Fillydelphia to his widowed mother: Summer Breeze (http://forum.legendsofequestria.com/index.php?topic=5480.0). His father tragically died while Summer was pregnant for him, cutting short her dream of a big happy family. Summer was nothing short of a helicopter mother. Since Midnight was the only family she had left, she coddled him extensively. As is expected, he became quite a mama's boy and had trouble fitting in with other ponies.
As a foal he had no close friends and only a few acquaintances due to his crippling shyness. As such, his most prominent source of entertainment was his own imagination, which caused him to develop a strong imaginativeness, curiosity,  and out-of-the-box thinking style. From a young age he found he had a constant urge to be working with his hooves, often messing with things that weren't his.
He discovered his cutie mark when a school bully broke his toy robot. Fascinated by all the tiny parts and gizmos inside, he not only fixed it, but made it walk, too! Inspired by the incident, he then wanted to know what 'made things tick'. He began taking apart and tearing up random appliances in his house, much to Summer's dismay...
During his adolescent years, Midnight spent a lot of time wondering about machines and technology and how they could be improved. He spent hours in thought about how much better he could make Equestria though technology. Dozens of ideas came to mind, from transportation, to recreation, to quality-of-life. However, there wasn't much he could do but dream. He didn't have the funds, resources, nor contacts to be a serious inventor.  Even as a grown stallion, his lack of references or on-the-job experience left him great difficulty finding a job. As such, he could only find work in a clock store, where he spent the next 2 years working a dead end, unchallenging job.
Eventually, his patience paid off. While skimming through the newspaper one evening, he came across the job opportunity he'd been looking for...or at least a step in the right direction. A new gadget shop was opening in Ponyville, and was looking for a tinker. Midnight didn't hesitate a second, and within weeks he was boarding the train to Ponyville. He knew it would be hard for a shy pony like himself to make a new life in a town where he didn't know anypony, but he couldn't just sit in his stagnant life forever, it was time for him take control of his life....

Fun Facts

-Midnight is a chess whiz, so much so it's surprising there isn't a pawn somewhere in his cutie mark.
-In sharp contrast to his techno-nerdiness, Midnight has a rudimentary knowledge of herbalism and botany, which he picked up from his mother.
-Midnight has never had a fillyfriend.
-Midnight chugs Flim & Flan cider like a fish, a guilty pleasure.
-Midnight has a great deal of respect for Princess Luna compared to other ponies.
-Unlike most Earth Ponies, Midnight is not very good with animals.
-Midnight is deathly afraid of heights.

I stared the story! Here ya go:  A New Breeze (http://forum.legendsofequestria.com/index.php?topic=5001.0)

Well, there you have him! Go easy on him, he's sensitive...

Ah, another pony OC lacking in self confidence, although I will say this one is far better composed. You do a good job establishing past and why he doesn't get out much to make friends. But fear not, it's never too late for him to learn the magic of friendship!

His cutie mark is pretty interesting and unique, and I do appreciate ponies with strong imagination. He's probably going to fit right in with the Ponyville Librarian, who I might add also struggled with making friends.

A few things do bother me, however. The first is the mysterious death of his father, in which the details you cleverly left out. It think I sense importance in this. Secondly... I don't know if there is actually pony college in Equestria. I don't know anything as far as education goes after Magic Kindergarten and Elementary School. Thirdly and most trivially, I like the picture, but why is he by himself in a vast grass field at night?

Yeah, I do have a loose explanation for it, but it's not totally solid. His father was Dusty Breeze, a railroad worker who got killed in a freak accident on the job. I haven't thought too deep into detail about who exactly Dusty was, since he's absent. But on the note of parents I do have a good chunk of detail on Summer that I didn't write here.

Scrapped it!

No particular reason. I commissioned it more for the character himself than the setting. I just went with something calm and serene, and a windy plain came to mind.

Thanks for the feedback!

Slight revision to his backstory, and added a link to the promised story! Only just starting, though.
