Title: So SWTOR is going free-to-play in a few months...
Post by: lurk852 on 2012 Aug 05, 23:49:29
Anypony feel like trying it out with me once the change hits? I played it for a few months when it first came out - quit because of low server population, an issue which has since been resolved. The restrictions on free play are pretty generous (the important parts are caps on how many times per week you can do certain things) and the game itself is quite fun, IMO. If you're not familiar with it, it's a flashy, story-focused WoWish game, aimed at a somewhat casual audience.

So yeah, I know this is early, but anyone have any interest in this?

I feel like they really should have made a Knights of the old republic 3, instead of a mmo, I might try it, but I´m kinda bored of mmorpgs at the moment.

With free, you mean GW-free or annoyingly restricted free?
Because I once heard the restriction was "you can't leave your home-planet".
I'm really interested, KOTOR 2 is of my favourite games.

Star Wars: The Old Republic.

It's based on the WRPG series 'Knights of the Old Republic'.

Not GW-free, but not that ridiculously restricted either. You can go all the way to max level, and go to all the planets, etc. Here's the full list of differences: http://www.swtor.com/free/features

Like I said, it's quite generous. Most of the restrictions you won't even notice on a casual playthrough.

I can't wait. The only reason I didn't play it before was because of the fee.

Yeah, pretty much. When I start again, I'm planning to play Empire on a US West PVE server, so tell me if you happen to know of a good server for that.

I just remembered that there's an entire Sorceror skill tree called Madness. Perfect!  ovO

I had myself a level 50 bounty hunter with some great gear, sadly I didn't feel like the money was really "Worth it" mainly because of the engine not able to keep up with 30 people in the same area or so. And yes I got myself a high end computer.  :l

That's strange... I have a medium-high-end computer and I never had that much problem with it. On bad days with high settings it sometimes gets down to 20 fps in extremely heavily populated places on the Fleet, but that's about it.

If anyone does join up, for what it's worth, I'll be on the Ebon Hawk server (probably Empire side) once I start playing again. Played there for a month or two before the F2P stuff happened, and it's a pretty decent place. Technically a RP server, but if you're not interested in RP (like me), it's not at all mandatory - only happens in the major cantinas, really.
