*warming up before practice on my drum kit*
Plugging in my distortion unit into my amp, while tuning my guitar. After all is said and done, I turn the unit on and lay down a deep, crunchy power chord.*
Wow! that amp is pretty clear!
It's a Crate combo amp with Equalizer. As small as it is I can get some power out of it, also my ZoomG2 has a pretty awesome Equalizer, too. It's even got patches on it that can sound like Jimi Hendrix, Eddy Van Halen, and others, but I stick to my own custom sounds anyway. *changes to a more high end, biting sound and throws down some scales* This is my lead patch and I even have one made for my bass.
good stuff *plays a small riff* I just got myself a new high hat, nice and bright
Adjusts the bass setting on the lead patch*
I'm typically a rhythm player. *throws some punchy palm mutes with deep chord* I want something that's gonna basically make the palm mutes and the double kick feel like a rain of mortar shells when it comes time to throw down.
Niiiice
I'm a huge fan punk, but I can do some thrash and some hardcore too.
Hey me too dude! I love punk!
Yeah, I'm also a country/blues folk player. But, if I had to play folk I'd incorporate a bit of a psychobilly/goth element to my folk tunes and maybe cover this:
Im not such a big fan of country, but i can appreciate it. This is actually a pretty cool song i gotta admit
Well, to me country is dark and country is real. It's not about wearing rhinestone shirts and driving big white cadillacs with a gold grill and bull horns on top. It's certainly not about living the high life in any way shape or form. Country is supposed to be about having just the clothes on your back and maybe a beater pick-up truck with a beer in one hand and a bible in the other with a gun in the back window with only one shot left in it because most likely you barely have a dollar to your name. If I had to play country I would add a sort of punk attitude and image to it while maintaining it's old roots.
Yup i can totally agree...I think country with a nice punk edge on it would sound pretty cool...I would certainly listen to country more often
yeah we atleast need a bass player now
True...i can play more than one instrument but i prefer to stay back here
sigh* Yeah, I can play guitar AND bass, even futz around with a synth if I feel like it. One day's I'd like to learn drums, but I really like my guitar.
i find its easier when you learn drums first but thats just me *puts away my sticks and takes out my guitar case*
I pretty much started as a bass player
*begins to tune my guitar, Its a John Lennon Replica Acoustic guitar* I started on drums but i started to branch out as i learned about certain instruments
Puts the electric on the stand and clicks the pedal to bypass and then breaks out a Rogue Dreadnought Acoustic and a slide.*
Well, I've been playing lots of acoustic lately. I actually made an acoustic folk version of Dig Up Her Bones from The Misfits and made a medley with Pretty Polly.
Thats awesome man *Strums my guitar a couple times*
tunes the acoustic.*
It's a bit of a cheap brand, but it's a good one with the rosewood fret board. I also like to use Ernie Ball Earth Wood strings... they have a slightly warmer tone and good for folk.
I actually have the thicker strings from Ernie Ball. I cant remember what brand they are exactly but I do like thick strings
finishes tuning and strikes an E chord*
Yeah,I use thicker gauges on my electric since I tune it to standard B... atleast until you get the top two strings, because I like to get alittle weird with those. I'd like to say with distortion it would sound like 7th chords or something reminiscent of "surf punk"
For me it depends what I'm playing...Green Day requires something crunchy while when i play something like the Stones or Sex Pistols or even The Beatles it requires a little less bite. When it comes to surf punk I usually think of something like the Ramones or something along those lines
I personally wouldn't call The Ramones punk only because they may have had a punk audience, but stylistically speaking they were heavily influenced by Buddy Holly and some 60's bands while adding a crunchier sound. I see them more as a garage band that was part of the underground New York scene.
Makes sense
I would definitely call Iggy Pop punk. However, he was not the first... A 60's band called The Monks were probably punk long before anyone ever knew what it was.
I dont think I've ever heard their music...but i know of them
There are two bands called The Monks. One is from the late 60's and I think the other came out in the late 70's or early 80's
defiantly the guitar
I mostly play rhythm, but if you can lay some good leads I can harmonize.
I play the dubstep pad plugged in to my laptop to download quick clips of songs
You are now DIAMONDS DROOG, jazz and blues musician and mobster dapper snarkster. You trot into the room...oh lord, this music. Ugh. You silently carry your saxaphone into a corner, away from the rest of the rabble. You get out your saxaphone and play a short jazz tune, warming up the instrument. You do your best to ignore the music played by those around you. Saying that you have an all consuming hatred for any non-jazz-or-blues music would be putting it lightly. You've always thought that other music lacked a certain tact, a certain feel.
Miru scooted in along side Droog, murmuring to the Jazz player. "Do you have a new reed? Does it need to be cleaned? If you go on stage I will sit in the front row and take pictures. Do you need a relaxant? I have some from Hearts." Miru peeped at the maroon pony. His musical talent wasn't that big, but he prided himself in supporting the dapper jazz player who looked like he belonged in a noir film.
You can't help but roll your eyes at Miru's over-concern. "I'm fine, you don't need to worry about me when it comes to matters of music." You'd likely glare off anyone that dares to even consider offering help to you when it comes to music, but Miru is a sensitive little fleece child.
"I found some music sheets at the library if that helps. Their jazz section was so small...Or do you plan to show these guys how we play Midnight City style?" He peeped, stars in his eyes like a child looking up at their idol. In a way, that was true. Although Droog should never be an idol for such an 'innocent' fleece child. Ahaha. Little warble from the excitable lavender male.
"Of course I'm going to play Midnight City style. If I didn't...well, that'd be like Slick without his knives, or Hearts without his violent love for romcoms." Good lordy, the memories stirred whenever you think of Hearts and his romcoms are extreme to say the least. One specific memory begins with him watching 'Love Actually' and ended with a city wide riot.
Miru seemed to be remembering that riot, or another one cause by his romcoms. "I wonder if there would've been less public destruction if he didn't have romcoms? Actually...I fear he might've picked up something worse. Somehow." Miru whispered, before chuckling in a rather forced manner. Yes everything is fine here. "I kinda wish I could play a big instrument too. Also the fact you can hold and play that thing with your breath and magic...Amazing!" He commented, ears all up. Yes, lighthearted Miru. This kind of place will be good on him, and hopefully Droog. Loosen up, 'Droogy!'
You admit to yourself thaf it's a little hard to pay attention to Miru, as you easily allow yourself to get lost in the music, to let the notes gently carry you away into a peaceful calm. "Perhaps you could play a smaller instrument, like a harp. I'd imagine that if you looked hard enough, you could find something that'd allow you to properly play it as opposed to just sort of...mashing your hooves against it. Assuming that you wouldn't just sing, as you have a pretty good voice for it." Well, not for jazz, but Miru needs as much encouragement as he can get.
*gets the pad playing WUBBS*
Miru was about to say something, but then wubbs happened. He just stared at Droog, knowing the other meant well. I mean, Miru isn't exactly 'hoof-gifted' or whatever they call it. Miru looked around and what do you know, a big ol' harp. Miru sat down at it, staring at his Mentor really hard. He's gonna play the harp, he swears to the Genesis Frog.
*the speakers bump to the rhythm of the harp and the wubbs start to intensify and harmonize with the harp*
You feel your eye twitch as the wubbs begin. It takes everything you have to not walk over to the 'musician' and destroy his ear-piercingly annoying dubstep pad. You give a simple nod to Miru, mentally preparing yourself for the possibility that Miru just does little more than uncoordinatedly pluck at the strings, but silently hoping that Miru could somehow play over the nuisance that is dubstep.
The wubbs go into a rave like mix to the song fur elise*
Miru is still just trying to play the normal chords cause he really hasn't touched a harp in a while. Maybe in the hangout's storage? Maybe? He's still trying to get his own stuff down, but he's having bit of a hard time learning at the moment. He just gonna. Sit on his little stool, hands...hooves on his lap. Deep breaths, yes. He puts his own music stand up, knowing those notes so well. He plucks some of the strings, learning them by sound and matching them up with memory. And then, he dares to play that familiar song. Three in the morning.
You gotta admit, Miru's quite good for someone who's still learning! Proud Droogie. This other guy on the other hand...you calmly put down your saxaphone, walk over to his laptop, and hit the power button. "Would you kindly turn that down?"
sorry.... :c
Miru stops playing, seeing the confrontation. Fret fret. Oh lordy Droog please don't start a fight my friend. Embarrassed Miru. He's expecting quite a lecture from his carapace unicorn friend. Miru knows how he gets about music. Small fret sound.
Oh. The other apologized. Miru isn't sure what to think. Aaah. Tiny quiet nervous pluck.
You're not here to get into a fight with some no-name annoyance who you'll likely never meet again...or, at least you hope you won't. You return to your instrument and start tuning it. Can't very well be out of tune, now can we? "I apologize for that short interruption, please continue." That was a partial lie. You aren't sorry. You rarely are sorry for any of the things you do.
Miru mouthed out 'liar' to Droog, a vaguely amused look on the fleece pone's face. He changed out his song and played another familiar song. One Droog could play along with. Lunar Eclipse, yes. This Jazz rhythm just felt so right to the boy, and it filled him with a sense of pride with the fact he could do these things with his mentor. That his mentor told him to please continue. Aaah...!
well hold on let me get my nylons! I can play a couple jazz licks on the set for you guys
Miru stopped playing at hearing another person's voice say 'jazz'. He put his ears up, looking around for the source. Oh. It must've been that pony over there who looked quite eager to play, to join them. He will be polite and listen to them. Yes.
You just. Silently observe the new pone. There are many misconceptions as to what jazz is, (or what you'd consider good jazz) and you wouldn't be entirely surprised if whoever this is was going to invoke one of those misconceptions.
Im much more akin to latin, but i did play with a funk/jazz group for a short time.
Miru just sorta makes a 'go on' facial gesture to the talking pony, not seeming interested with the light conversation. He isn't as angry as his mentor, but he's also terrible with socialization.
*starts to play a 3/4 swing pattern with busy snare work*
Miru rested a hand on the support area of the harp, his foot...Erm, hoof, bouncing lightly with the rhythm. He does like swing too, and he wonders if Droog would play anything swing with him.
Hmph. He isn't terrible. He's not particularly good either. Snares aren't typically recognized as a 'jazzy' instrument for a reason, but that in itself isn't the problem you have with this guy. The problen you have is that he's just freestyling and he isn't particularly good at it.
Miru looked over at the maroon, cold unicorn, brows raised at him. Yes, give him a chance? Of course he's freestyling you nerd he has no sheet music in front of him.
*finishes with a 2 bar fill* OK? yes? no? Maybe so?
It's possible to memorize songs, and to freestyle better. I give no chances. They have one shot. Well, extra chances given within reason. You give a look to Miru, silently asking if you can go mad with the ranting.
Miru put his ears down to Droog, giving him a pleading look. Be nice but yes you can talk to them. Just. Don't wreck their stuff, man. They have good intentions.
You take a small sigh. You were really looking forward to ranting this guy out. "You...could have done better." That is one of the nicest ways you could have put it without hurting yourself.
Miru holds a hoof up at Droog. Wait....He holds up another, going through his stuff. He pulls out a hand doing a 'thumbs up' for Droog. Just. Holding it in his mouth for a while before putting it away. Ahaha.
Hoof. Meet face.
oh...well thank you. I'm always looking to improve. *puts my sticks back in my stick back and pulls out my acoustic guitar*
Chortling harp player. Why, you could practically call it a whinny! He strums the elegant instrument some just for fun, his face lit up with a jolly grin at Droog's annoyance.
*notices the sitcom like scene and chuckles a little before going back to playing some riffs on the guitar*
Miru notes that Droog is now busy with his own thing, and decides to work on his personal project. Got some words scribbled on there, plucking a gentle tune on the sweet harp's strings. The boy be mouthing the lyrics, head gently bouncing to the supposed beat.
I'm lost what are we playing?
*walks up behind you and starts to play my guitar along with Miru*
I'll just do freestyle then *put away laptop and takes out a mic*
That is a person approaching! Miru stops again, looking at the guitarist with a curious look. He isn't sure what the other wanted, and he figured it would just be polite of him if he gave his full attention to the approaching pony. Gonna stare at them with his big ol' eyes.
mkay well here I go then*pauses*
don't show this my complete verses
on my hearses don't bleed curses
as my verses lyrically attack the way that you think.
my minds eye opened up the wave of time
everytime that I lie my world fades away
then it makes you sway.......
You literally get up and march out of the sound room. You'll be back later, when you've cleansed your pallet of this tRASH.
Well, at least he's passionate...Miru isn't a big fan of that style, so he can't really enjoy it. He looked over at Droog some. He's gonna throw a temper tantrum, isn't he?
Oh, there he goes. He quietly waves goodbye to Droog, not wanting to follow him as he looks kinda...ill.
Post Merge
Miru cleared his voice, taking deep breaths. He began playing a vaguely familar, light beat tune, and began to sing in a lighthearted manner, hoping this would cheer up the fussy friend.
Spoiler: Parody of 'Her Smile in Every Summer' by Hot Freaks show
There once was a boy
I felt I'd known forever
His name in every song
His smile in every autumn
Across the dark city
We'd go on adventure
But now we are apart
But I still picture us
Living in the same house
Somewhere by the shop
It wouldn't have to be much
A place for him and me
Yeah, that'd be everything that we would ever need
And when the night winds beat upon our house
The windows shake and our power goes out
But isn't it amazing?
It's me and him
And me
And him
Autumn is long gone
I go about my business
I would give anything
To hold his hand just one more time
I'm scared that I won't ever change
I think about him every day
I can't let go, I can't go on
I'm not OK at all
He was by my side
When I first saw the ocean
1000 miles wide
We both dipped our toes in
And stayed there for a while
Watch the sky turn red and orange, yeaaah, yeah
Later, the stars came out
There we sat in the sand
With my hand on his hand.
I'm scared that I won't ever change
I think about him every day
I can't let go, I can't go on
I'm not OK at all
I made ways to forget how it felt when we were alone
That could never be real
I'm scared that I won't ever change
I think about him every day
I can't let go, I can't go on
I'm not OK at all!
Intense Harp plucking and passionate singing aw yeah.
You take a deep sigh and reluctantly return to the sound room. You give Miru a respectful nod. It's more than he usually gets. You return to your corner of neglect and scorn, get out your saxophone, and play a relaxing jazz bit. (http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=VFTQgLO0x1U)
Aaah, Miru is honored! He sets his hooves in his lap, closing his eyes and savoring that sensual sax music. Awwww yeah. That's some excellent jazz right there.
I can dig it... I can lay down some pretty good bass lines in jazz. *pulls out a five string fretless bass.*
Once again, Miru's eyes are on Droog to see how he'll react to someone offering to play jazz with/for him. Eyebrows raised.
*puts away my guitar and pulls out my brushes to play along with crimson on set*
You just. Sigh and nid. You can just mentally block it out if you don't like it. You're not in the mood to argue over music.
starts tuning the bass and laying down some chromatic and pentatonic scales to warm up.*
*i set my brushes and get ready for the bassline*
Miru gets up, and decides to rejoin Droog by sitting by him. He looked at him expectantly, knowing he might not be too happy with what is going on. Miru will not play this time, no.
either of you ponies want to step up and play? The more the merrier!
Blizzard, start us off.
righto *counts off with a two bar riff*
comes in with a chromatic lead before breaking into a bossa nova line.
*playing brushes on the snare along with it*
gives us a little of the bass Blizzard.
