Hey, hope ya don't mind I jumped in with an oddball OC. His name's Tag, and he's a bit special. (Yes, in that way) He's not exactly right in the head, reckless and doesn't speak quite straight. Despite this, he is kinesthetically skilled and a bit witty. Strange things like that can happen to a young colt when he gets lost deep in the Everfree and learns to live there on his own.

I felt a strong entrance would be fitting for this character. I know the entrance seemed a bit OP. I didn't go into another several paragraphs describing the details of how he pulled it off, but I'll say that he indeed does not jump ridiculously high or anything. I can share how that whole entrance built up and happened, though I didn't want to reveal it at the time. Wanted more of a surprise like, "How the heck is an earth pony seemingly falling from the sky?"

Tag is a pony that can climb trees. It's a much more awkward motion for a pony to climb trees than a human, but he's gotten good at it, since he's lived in the Everfree most of his life.
Tag heard the commotion at the lake, happening to be nearby during one of his regular patrols to see what's going on around the forest. He climbed a tree that overhung the lake (which was more of a jumping, hopping, clinging and swinging type of motion), and from about 30 feet up, could see the large stone alligator in the pond. He also saw the ponies in distress and felt the need to help. The gator was swimming in a figure-8 pattern around the lake. Tag waited until the gator passed close underneath him, took a few running steps on the tree limb, and made a courageous leap, landing with intentional force on the gator. (I figured that, with the leaps that Granny Smith was able to pull off in her youth, this would be possible.)
Now that he wasn't under cover of the leaves and flying through mid-air, it certainly could look like a pony falling out of the sky. Since the gator was already nearer shore, when Tag made his move, Tag was able to bound off of it into the shallows.
And from then on I've already covered in the main thread, or I will soon cover. His adrenaline is still pumping and his injury from landing atop a stone gator haven't surfaced quite yet. He certainly didn't expect it to be hard as rock.
