Title: If they made a gen5...
Post by: Rarity Rose on 2013 Aug 19, 03:31:33
so if they made a generation 5 of my little pony, how would you react. What do you think the new ponies would look like? (i know this is really pointless and has already been asked before sorry  DD: )

I really don't know. Assuming "they" is the same crew for FIM, it should be good. If not then I wouldn't know what to expect.

They would have absolutely MASSIVE heads, eyes to fit and minuscule bodies, they would never get hurt, trip over or say anything worse than "oh dear"

If there was I have a dreadful feeling it would try too hard to be hip. It will be talking about pony twitter and be set in the future. Or it will become another Halo wannabe. Yeah that's right pony space marines. Like every game is turning out to be.

To differentiate it from G4, they should focus on fantasy and story arcs. Maybe have humans from "our world" come to pony land and help them, like in G1.

But i don't actually think they will make a gen 5 now or sth like that, they probably will make one when we are old (like our grandpas/grandmas). Probably kids born on 2061 will see a new gen or maybe 2037 who knows XDD

Since I have no expectations from Season 4, although except the mystery chest in the second episode, then I have no idea what's in store for Season 5 if that were to happen.
Maybe Discord and some past villains would get together to defeat the Mane 6 =I

Considering I've been in this fandom since gen one....(btw welcome all you gen 4's to my life long obsession) I would carry on as normal. Ponies have always been learning friendship and always will. Each gen has a unique look that takes time to get used to, but I love all of them.  It's like pokemon.

Small Gush session:

Personally I adore seeing MLP change and grow over time. Gen one was pretty metal...the art was creepy cute and Poor megan was kinda trapped in the pony world.

then there was gen two that had really nice toys. somewhere in here are flutter ponies (butterfly rarity) and special crystal princess ponies (which celestia is based off of) and OMG I NEEDED those.

then there was my little pony tales which a lot of tumblr bronies scream is sexist  :l It's really not. I  loved Bon bon learning to be a good friend the way twilight does now and writing down in her journal (omg season 4? lol) and as a little girl...the writing seemed pretty normal and actually WAY less sexist than other girl shows I was watching.

gen 3 was my favorite of all time for one reason.. Hona - freaking - lulu. that baby Pegasus pony was awesome. I also loved the look of those ponies. they looked modern and real at the same time. and most of them were scented, and STILL SMELL GOOD NOW! this and gen 3.5 only had DVD movies.  D: DD: but rainbow dash had rarity's personality and general voice which is hilarious. lol

gen 3.5 was really really weird....it's like the loony toons babies of MLP. But rainbow dash was really funny in this gen so I'm okay with it.

whoa I like that analogy

gen 1-3 is old school loony toons

gen 3.5 is loony toon babies

gen 4 is freaking space jam!

you're welcome. and sorry for gushing! I just have so much love for MLP as a whole and finally have places to talk after decades of no one giving an F.  ovO

I think if they did it well enough, and didn't make the ponies to girly again like the previous generations it will work out fine, personally I am worried about the possible 5th gen ponies because they could completely mess it up or they could make something awesome like the ponies we have now. As long as they keep all the different audiences in mind when they possibly start the next generation of ponies and they keep/add our likes and needs into generation 5 I think it will be fine but as I said previously, I am worried about the 5th gen ponies, I just don't want to see something this amazing that us bronies have made for our self's disappear, this community of bronies is all down to us and the show, and we need to enjoy the show enough to be able to stick around and support it 100%. what ever happens I will still be here and I hope a lot of people will be as well, But I don't want anything to change for the worst.  >:/

I'd like MLP with epic ponies, you know, a metal pony, a dragon slayer pony... Demon pony... Ninja pony, karate pony and so on.
And they'd fight monsters.
Of course, it would be for an older audience...

Post by: Hexcorpe on 2014 Jan 28, 16:10:08
^ I completely agree with you on the idea of having a My little pony series for a older audience, and I would like to think that it will happen eventually or there could be a My little pony series just for Bronies where the developers think about our ideas more than the current developers, and why should they?, they are there to make a show for a younger audience it just so happened older audiences started to like it as well so maybe if there was a company that got the rights to make a generation of mlp just for bronies that would be cool

I do believe I was drawn to the show for it's clean humor, standing in line with other lighthearted cartoons but doesn't make you cringe or gag from diabetic voice acting and childish pranks. If it became exclusively for adults I wouldn't have been as interested. What makes me like it so much is that its a child's cartoon that is good. It has a revolutionary stigma.

The thing about a PG-13 series is that 1) It would be contradictory. Ponies and violence just don't mix, and 2) not ALL bronies would like that. For example, I like MLP for its sheer cuteness. There is NOTHING cute about ninja demons. :/

Are you sure about that?

Young Justice- Canceled
Spectacular Spider-Man- Canceled
Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes: Canceled
Transformers Prime: Ended

Meanwhile...

Ultimate Spider-Crud: Getting a 3rd season.
Teen Titans Go!: Getting a 2nd season
Ben10: Omniverse: getting a 5th season

No, all the good, serious, shows are being canceled. At least Transformers Prime got a decent conclusion. Hopefully the Hub will keep showing better shows so animation be taken seriously like it was in the 90s. I'd love to see a MLP show with action,  character development, dark themes and story arcs.

Post by: Midnight Breeze on 2014 Feb 13, 08:44:04
Dude, get real, that's just the result of cable networks catering to the target audience. Shows like Ben 10 may not appeal well to us, but generation Z loves it. My parents were baby boomers, and they always hated the cartoons I watched in the 90s. The same cartoons that people in my generation remember as the golden age of Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network. Times change, different generations like different things. New age cartoons are not inherently good nor bad, it's just what generation Z likes. I wonder if generation Y knows how old and cranky the sound when they rant about how bad recent cartoons are by their taste. "Them kids these days don't know what real cartoons are!"

So why does FiM appeal so well to generation Y? Simple: Lauren Faust. She worked on the likes of shows like Powerpuff Girls and Foster's, which were popular during out childhood, and brought the same feel of those shows to FiM. Were it not for Faust, I guarantee you the brony community would never have existed.

TLDR: Different generations like different things. It's pretty egocentric of generation Y'ers to think cable networks should cater to our tastes, rather than the current generation of children.

Opinion.

I guarentee you 20 years from now generation Z will be looking back on how great today's cartoons were, and how terrible cartoons in 2035 are. Just like our parents said of the cartoons we watched as kids.

Title: Re: If they made a gen5...
Post by: MrSpyro on 2014 Mar 24, 17:45:10
^ I doubt that. Bronies have left a mark on the MLP world. If the new generation were anything like G3, they'd lose a LOT of fans, so the next gen will, if anything, be even better in order to keep the bronies.
Title: Re: If they made a gen5...
Post by: GoldenTerrabyte on 2014 Mar 24, 23:36:45
What if G5 was actually created BY bronies? If all the people making it were bronies, and it were official, affiliated with Hasbro(or something else on the off chance some other company ended up buying the MLP franchise) then it would be good, and it would be an official G5. Am I right?
Title: Re: If they made a gen5...
Post by: dynamite on 2014 Mar 30, 06:16:52
If they make it like past generations it would be a bad move, if they made it like action packed and explosions that would also be a bad move. If anything it should com closer to G4 as much as possible in other words don't make a G5 as long as possible and just keep G4 going.
Title: Re: If they made a gen5...
Post by: Night Pony on 2014 Mar 30, 06:45:39
They will probably make it similar to G4 due to the success it was. That will be the most logical decision though if they want to get rid of the older demographic and focus solely on little girls, they may revert to something like the past generations.
Title: Re: If they made a gen5...
Post by: MrSpyro on 2014 Mar 30, 10:00:49
But bronies and pegasisters are about 50% of the fans. Making G5 for the little girls will just result in us giving it bad feedback, which leads to no one watching the show.
Title: Re: If they made a gen5...
Post by: Night Pony on 2014 Mar 30, 10:28:54
No the target audience will watch it. MLP was always a show for little girls. Bronies are an unexpected bonus and nothing more.
Title: Re: If they made a gen5...
Post by: Mizuki on 2014 Mar 31, 09:28:20
If bronies have a hand in making G5, I imagine it would be like a horse version of Lucky Star, but with western-centric pop culture references, and even more scandalous in-jokes that only adults would "get."

Also, there would be a "beach episode" where the ponies would wear bikinis and the animators would occasionally throw something inappropriate in the background for the "true, adult fans" to find.

In other words: it'd be my worst nightmare! DD:

I think G4 will last quite a while.

according to Wikipedia:
"On February 14, 2014, a Hasbro investor webcast revealed the company has planned out the next five years for the current branding of the My Little Pony franchise" sourced from http://www.equestriadaily.com/2014/02/hasbro-investor-webcast-information-eqg.html

though this isn't a guaranty. but here's hoping.

Those aren't mutually exclusive. There are many shows that can be apreciated by both adults and children, because they are good.

Literally the only way you could make a show only for children is to dumb it down, and decrease the quality of the writing to get adults to stop watching.

I agree in that both children and adults can watch cartoons, especially if they're well-made! :)

But what if you wanted to make something exclusively for children, but didn't lower the quality standards?

I guess trying to cater to any specific audience is difficult. Even if you wanted to give little girls quality entertainment, the quality in and of itself would bring in general appeal just because it's done so well.  :c

Not sure if that's good or bad actually!

Here's what I see....

Hasbro wouldn't want to take the risk of trying something totally new and unpredictable, because they wouldn't want to lose either the bronies or their original audience of young girls. So what we'll see is this...

Hasbro will make G5 a spin-off of G4. It will use characters they already know are popular, like Vinyl Scratch, Lyra, and the like, because they will be fresh and new, but without the risk of losing Hasbro any viewers, (and more importantly, buyers.) It will be in computer animation, because everything is turning into computer animation nowadays.
And the rest strongly depends upon if they make the right decision and keep the original creative team, or decide that if it ain't broke, DO try and fix it, and make everything flop like a Slinky down the stairs of a mountaintop Buddhist monastery. :I

I'm certain it'll probably be in 3D models since G5 animation will probably be made in a similar fashion to Filly Funtasia.

Is this true or an idea?

Idea.

You bronies and thinking you're the center of attention. Hasbro doesn't care about keeping the adult audience. Their main focus was and always have been little girls. So when G4 ends and G5 is made, they will make it for little girls without considering for the bonus adult fans.

You are right about this. Ponies have always been something that has been aimed at little girls between the ages of 2 and 11 since pony books became popular in the 1920s. This is what started this whole mess about ponies being for little girls. I wish that ponies would be something boys would like, but they don't seem to appreciate them since society has brainwashed them into liking stuff like transformers. Hasbro has to deal with their traditional demographic for MLP or face the fact that the franchise will be completely done and they go out of business. I hope one day that ponies will be something both genders will enjoy, but that will be hard considering 90 years of segregation between both genders like the colors pink and blue.

What's wrong in liking transformers?  :/
I'll have you know it's a good franchise despite having some terrible games and all explosion type of movies.

Also both genders are enjoying MLP today.

I'm sorry. I never just had any interest in most toy brands for boys excluding hot wheels when I was little. I tend to be a girly-boy at times which is why I like other generations now of MLP except G2 which probably sucked. I'm just telling you that just because MLP is being enjoyed by both genders today doesn't mean it'll stay that way. Keep in mind that in Europe, Hasbro has to deal with the more popular Filly brand which is actually liked by girls only. Again, I'm sorry but I have no interest in transformers but respect your interests in it.  ^-^

I really don't know. Assuming "they" is the same crew for FIM, it should be good. If not then I wouldn't know what to expect.

I can't imagine the current crew for FIM will stay for G5. G5 might not even have any cartoon at all! It won't even begin until maybe the later part of 2019 considering Hasbro added 5 more years to G4's life and that G3.5 merchandise was still being sold in stores as late as 2011.

To differentiate it from G4, they should focus on fantasy and story arcs. Maybe have humans from "our world" come to pony land and help them, like in G1.

That would be nice. I could see a G5 cartoon being similar in fashion to the 1986 cartoon. Although it probably will be in CGI animation.

There already is one...

That's actually Filly Funtasia which is a CGI animated cartoon based upon the Filly toy series from Dracco. It mainly exists in Germany, Central Europe, and Russia and is MLP's major competitor in the European market. It won't show it's first episode until 2015 and by the looks of the trailer I don't think it'll be that bad.

It's true. If everything was kept the same as it was in the 1960's, I can prove to you that it will become boring. Changes may not be so nice, but that's life and its the only way to keep things in this world of ours fresh.

so if they made a generation 5 of my little pony, how would you react. What do you think the new ponies would look like? (i know this is really pointless and has already been asked before sorry  DD: )

It won't really matter now because it won't be until 2019 that G5 would come out. Heck, G4 might even surpass it if it's still popular in the next couple of years as in G4 will go into the 2020s. Chances of that happening are very slim though considering the generation will already be ten by 2020 and fifteen if it makes it to 2025! I'm sure by then that G5 will be in service.

What if G5 was like this:
Spoiler: show
(http://fc01.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2013/076/e/8/bbbff_fluttershy_by_scourge707-d5ye03b.png)

An animation design that was used in MLP FIM, but is different. I think they call it bbbff or chibi design, but I'm not sure. Some other animation style that Faust created though. It would be a simple design, yet very cute.

If that's the case then it would be the same as the old and new Powerpuff girls.

Is that a bad thing? Still is a different design! However, I think that 3D is going to be used for G5 and beyond. At least for future cartoon shows after FIM and EQG is cancelled. I don't think that the bbbf design will be used. Can't imagine how it could be.

Gen 5 will be the Generation of Anon-in-Equestria.

Well, I'm so sorry that I broke the rules. I don't remember going off-topic on this thread though. And how do I contact the Moderation team?
