Legends of Equestria - Forum

Sort of like Pony High, but more a university than a high school, and magic-based.  Maybe more focused on professors?  Or not, idk.  What do you all think?

It kinda depends on how things will run maybe have sign up for the teachers but students get to jump in otherwise chaos insuse i guess

Not sure about the other classes but my Summoning class is open for any kind of species.

hmm... I'll say there are certain classes that are universally applicable, but non-unicorns tend not to have as much interest in going to the Academy (since the Pegasi would rather be working at the Factory and the Earth ponies probably farm or do something else)

And the students/teachers might be of a different social class or mentality than most ponies, because despite the presence of trades etc around places like Ponyville, they choose to go the the Academy instead :P  Room and board, travel, etc.  Not cheap, unless you got a scholarship.

I guess my class would be open to all since its a control of Dark energy class (for the moment)

Nala have all the free time a pony can have in a life time, she was homeschooled to the equivalent of the 3rd year of high school. She then had a full year of magic knowledge so she knows how to do the basic stuff like levitate. But with the lack of Horn, she can't perform levitate and a few other spells.
So she would probably be accepted.

probably, knowing the theory allows even earth ponies to create formulas for new spells, though lacking horns they might not be able to perform the spell themselves.  With the introduction of magitronics and spell matrices and inter-magical forces, however, machines are rapidly being created which may one day allow any pony to access magic regardless of species!

Or just a old time magic talisment would do the trick. :] I'll jump in soon.

I could have Teal teach swimming, since unicorns spend most of their time indoors and even when they do go out they probably don't swim, so it would make sense to get a pony who can teach them to swim so they don't drown.

I could also have him be a student...but....meh.

well you could have non magic classes like potions and things or alchamy classes i guess there kinda in the magic clasifacation (even if alchamy is sciance not magic)

The other option is to use a different character but my only unicorn OC kinda sucks. Not a big fan of Sheeby as a character.

Let's be honest. Most unicorns are bookworms. Physical lessons are necessary like it or not.

And if I remember, Teal is good with some medicinal plant and stuff? He could be a healing and magic plant/potion teacher or student.

Okay, I'll just need to ask Magus if they have a pool at the academy or if Teal has to lead the students somewhere else.

That too, I forgot about that actually since he hasn't needed to use it in so long.

Actually, I would more wonder what exactly elemental magic entails that isn't covered by the other courses.

And also. What kind of magic will you teach? Destruction? Restoration?

actuly having a course on other elements would be quite useful showing how to use fire,water,wind and earth which would allow more diversity for the student classes

They are magic of the four major elements in the world= air, water, fire and earth. All these elements are only a base, which mean they can be combined with other elemental magic to create a new element.
Here's an exemple.
We take a random Air spell ((let's say a spell to create a whirlwind))
We take the base fire spell ((a spell that just create fire))

We combine them and we get a new spell. A whirlwind of fire.

Like we can create a thunder spell with a fire, water and air spell.
Air and water to make clouds and fire to make the energy. With the air, we make friction with clouds and release the energy that is something hot ((which is fire))

It can develop the creativity of the students.

There is crossover between the three races whenever focus points are placed differently due to genetics; for example, some unicorns are capable of flight due to vestigial wing focus points left over from pegasus ancestry.  Some pegasi have focus points on their hooves, linking them with the ley energies and thus with the earth.

Pegasus wings themselves are mostly similar to a mix between bird and bat wings; three "finger feather" bone structures extend from the wrist joint along with tendons connected to muscles at the base of the elbow joint on the wing.  These "finger feather" bones are crucial to pegasus magic.  The structure is similar to unicorn horns: a core bundle of nerves, blood vessels and mana channels with mana glands branching out from it, surrounded by protective marrow and sheathed in bone.  Unlike unicorn horns, however, the bones here are covered with two additional layers of flesh- a layer of blood vessel-dense spongy tissue, and a layer of nerve-dense skin, which are then connected to the less sensitive skin stretching between "finger feathers" and the arm.  These sensitive areas are protected by layers of down and rigid bony feathers.  When stimulated in particular manners, the spongy tissue fills with blood, causing the wings to involuntarily flare and the protective feathers to rise, exposing the sensitive down and skin beneath in a vestigial courting display.

Earth pony mana focus points are as of yet unknown, but are believed to contain similar constructs of mana channels and glands.

... There's a difference about general Mana and a specific type of magic. I aprouve the mana system but I mean, what does it have to do what I just said?... I am a bit confused...

But my class would be like

When I think of it, it's a bit like what they ask in art class. You learn the basics and go from there.

forgot what my sophisticated point was to be, but the basic gist was "magic is different for different parts" vs "all magic is the same", I guess.

As an artistic, creative spellmaking class it does seem like a good class.

Since the Doctor hasn't been around for a while, I am not sure whether to assume that Time Magic class is to be postponed and/or cancelled.  In the interim, the second most popular class is Feather's, Inter-Magical Forces.  Would you all like to skip Time for one class and come back later, or continue waiting?

I have a dragon OC, she's a baby, would I be aloud to be her in the RP? Mostly since I lost track of what was going on when I was Insanitis.

Equestrian law has the school be required to accept any capable creature as long as it scores well enough on the entrance exam, so if the baby dragon can pass that, she can enter ^-^  Would be best to find a friend to avoid getting into uncomfortable situations with certain ponies though; it's only been a decade or so since the Academy was (somewhat) forcibly integrated, after all.

... I don't think she would be smart enough to pass  lol hmmm...*idea* could she have been hatched there and be like a school pet? (If not I'm kay with it o3o)

possibly, or perhaps she's treated like a younger sibling that's "visiting" semi-permanently lol

but then there would have to be a pony she was visiting.

you can make ponies learn geometry, like I made ponies learn physics.  Magically, without actually using irl science/math.  It's more interesting if, for instance, the terminology is magical-y and things don't work the way they do in real life, and geometry is used for magic spells and stuff.  You can even call it "geometric magic" class.

If you're familiar with non-euclidean magic?  You can use that in your classroom, and freak ponies out by crossing a mile with a single step or taking longer to walk in one direction than in the other ovO

but if you don't want to teach, you can be a Their Majesties' Agent too, working for the Ministry of Changeling Threat Detection.

Ok now I shall admit my notes got jumbled up recently ive lots  a few RP files I keep so I dont know who the next teacher or lesson is so some confermation might be a good Idea or a back up plan to another teacher becuse well my old notes say Nala Valor as the elemental teacher but no offence i havent seen them post here for a while so yea confermation any pony or I may delcare an idea for a lesson re-vote

Don't worry Nala. If you work hard enough, you will figure out a way to do the same quality of work faster. Then, you will find that you have more free time on your hands. ( I am just trying to be helpful, I have not actually tried this method. At heart i am a Professional Crastinator. I am merely saying things that seem to work for everypony else in my school. Work hard, be patient, and your time will come. )

I've been a college student for a couple years now.

I've always tried to get all of my work done before doing anything else.

I was able to still find the time to do the things I like to do.

I don't know if I'll be able to continue to do that... but... I will certainly try to continue to do that.

Just thought I should share my experiences with the work I've had to do.

It's more than just the statue. magic like that isn't easy to pull off without somepony noticing.  So they had to get creative in what they used.  It's some bizarre homemade, symbolic ritual, with a bit of magic array's, shadow magic, illusions etc. mixed together.

Hmmh. Interesting. It has to be really good to get past the Academy's defense...

It took a lot of time and research. Probably a year minimum.  note: the biggest reason it doesn't get detected, is how it refrains from doing anything too noticeable, hence why it never raises any suspicion.  Most other types of manipulation spells tend to have noticeable affects, where as this works on natural behaviors and tendencies; allowing it to be overlooked. as for automated defenses; they choose to make it a ambient environmental ritual, meaning that the sensors would have trouble discerning it from the rest of the school.  Plus the ritual could also be designed to self-sustain since it's output is low enough. To add insult to injury; they also implemented various illusion and shadow magic's into the rituals design, allowing it to evade active searches as well.

in a nutshell. This is what happens when you have to many bored honor students at the same time.  They could have done something productive.  but the moment it gets mention that they could essentially both get away with it and develop their magical skill past the current curriculum; well it's hard to resist.

Now that Nova's class is over...

Mage is leading Flare to the secretaries office Wandering Magus so she can take the academy's examination.

Flare doesn't seem to think she will pass.

But, I suppose, it's up to you whether Flare will pass or not Wandering Magus.

if you've ever taken a physics class that dealt with circuits, and either did or didn't understand it, this is that class, magic-fied.  For the ones that understand it, like the "class prodigy", they show off that they're geniuses; for the ones that don't understand it, it can be like that-one-class where things get blown up, problems happen, and school gets not necessarily understandable but quite exciting.  Or it can be the "everypony falls asleep in it" class.  Students talk with each other, the less-well-disciplined students concoct zany schemes to create something that works which fails (or works) hilariously, the genius somehow manages to solve the meaning of life, the ditz SOMEHOW manages to break reality and summon a monster.

It's "SCIENCE!" taken to a fantasy-based world.

If you want a technical real-world parallel, it's introduction to circuit analysis.  Capacitors, resistors, multimeters, wires, breadboards, all that stuff.  The teacher keeps telling you not to cross the wires, to calibrate the machines, find numbers, blah blah blah and it goes over half the class's heads, but it's somehow ridiculously fun.

Ah. I say Shard understands it.

Shard can be having fun connecting things and following the procedure :)  It's like building a (very, very, very basic) computer.  There's things you're not supposed to connect to each other, and things you have to be careful TO connect, but in the end if you follow directions you SHOULD have a working circuit.  Same with "magitronics": keep the circle decently round, don't drink the poison joke, put the dots where they should be and you should get a pretty nice spell field going.

@LostSanity: the ruby can hold and channel a specific amount of magic, like a bucket with holes on each side.  Poison Joke holds a bunch of it, like an infinite well that sprays a lot of water.  Touching the two is bad because the holes are small and might break if you try stuffing too much water in at once.  The lines on the Matrix help move the magic, like a rubber hose moves water.  You connect the lines in a specific pattern to get your spell field, like how you connect pipes to make a fountain work or get a watermill to start turning.  If too little water goes through the pipes, the mill doesn't turn.  If too much goes through, the mill can break.

The assignment is basically to first make sure your "mini-mill" flow-tester is working right, so you use the ruby (the bucket with holes) to make sure your tester is correct (since you already know how fast water can go through normally).  Then you measure how fast the water's flowing, and how much of it needs to come out of the pipe in order to turn the mill (one drop won't turn it, and a full gallon will break it).

For those who already understand it, testing the flow-tester a few times helps you be more accurate when you measure the flow and stuff.  For those who are having a bit of trouble, just testing once or twice is good enough.

For those who already understand it, testing the flow-tester a few times helps you be more accurate when you measure the flow and stuff.  For those who are having a bit of trouble, just testing once or twice is good enough.

Technical stuff, if you REALLY want the theory behind the magical experiment (warning: lots of magibabble!):

We're measuring the flux of the spell field with a thaumerimeter, which uses special artificial resonance coils to calculate the change in magical potential.  To ensure that the thaumerimeter is calibrated correctly, we send a known flow of magitrons from the Fire Ruby through the simple spell matrix and measure the Spell Field generated by the movement of the magitrons.  We do this several times, adjusting the matrix as necessary, to ensure correct calibration of the thaumerimeter.  We then use the Scroll Equations to calculate the magitronic flow based on our reading of the flux and knowledge of the other parameters, related by Clover's Constant C.  We then find the force exerted by the Spell Field by using magically charged objects hanging from uncharged, insulated string and protractors; knowing the mass of the object and the angle at which it is deflected, we can then calculate force over distance.  Then we go into a bit of Alchemy as we use the vials of Poison Joke to test how the Spell Field affects the alchemical components.  Changes in color and other properties of the potion should be recorded and quantified as much as possible, with thermometers, spectroscopes, etc.  This will tell us the magical radiance of the spell field, which all spells have to an extent.

Alright, was making sure, since I've been following this RP a bit since I became active on the forums. And The reason I ask about the wards and dimension is because Farsight is a dimension traveller, albeit through a way anypony could do so... With enough practice an training. If you've every read the Wheel of Time series you'll see the similarities between his Dreamworld and Tel'Aran'Rhiod. I'm also willing to teach "Dream" Magic as well (I'm not taking Luna's job, whatever are you talking about?!  ovO).

It's the Royal Academy of MAGIC, they're usually up-to-date on security.  The odd student will occasionally prank the offices, but for high-security places (such as the Archives, the Emergency Shield, etc) the Princesses have those pesky infinite-dimensional shields that block inward-bound teleportation/travel in any given dimension. :]

Dream magic, sounds good!  Although you might want to "register" with the Secretary of the Academy.

How about quills that fill themselves with ink, buckets that are always full of oats no matter how much you dump out, a pot that boils any liquid that falls inside without a fire, a staff that sprouts flowers without needing dirt, a bag of gold bits which turn to dried flower petals if removed from the bag but turn back when put back in...

I wonder how many ponies are attending the class.

hehe yea sorry about that a lot started happening and this game was running fine without me for a time Magus gave some decent focus to this game and Nova was there to watch also so my preasnce wasnt ultimatly needed, so at that time i focused on my own game which failed but I did remain a gm here and have been watching over the game incase i was required

I won't lie the RP section will take a hit from this luckily in all Magus's games there is normally multiple gm's such as in this one and Before Equestria that would be me

Sorry about that.... Got caught up with junk IRL and other RPs.

I think perhaps because it's the last few weeks of school for a lot of members?  But regardless, several players have been completely missing for a while, namely Morning Glory (you'll notice I've made her an NPC in every RP she's currently involved in that I'm GM of).

Im sorry to say I will be taking my leave from this game Its apparent as of recently I have upset the GM of the game and caused what may be unfixable damage to his opinion of myself so as to not affect the game or infact your enjoyment I bid you all adue its been fun and I wish everyone the best

Ryo_D_Disk and all related characters and classes have been removed from this game until further notice.

Someone needs to make more RP's here.

Especially considering how most of them keep dying.

Well, i wouldn't say that it's impossible. Changing one matter into another (like lead into gold) is teoreticaly possible on the plain of quantum mechanics, its just undoable for us now. That doesn't mean that the scientists won't figure out how to do it in a couple of years, decades or centuries.

I meant impossible with the current technology. so, since most of Equestria has worse tech than us, it's impossible without magic.

well, the "science" of "magic".  repeatable, testable.  it's got rules, laws, and interacts with physical laws of nature.  Firebreath plus Sillyfruit plus Iceleaf in the right amounts always equals Snailsbane potion, for instance.  The alchemical reactions can be studied just as easily as chemical reactions.

A million magitrons moving at fifteen miliprime per second always produces thirteen swirls of spell field energy.  Magitronics takes advantage of this consistency to create "magical electronics" usable by earth ponies and pegasi.

How does signing up as a proffessor work, exactly? Will a person teach what they want the way the want - as long as it is related to the subject - or do you provide some kind of instruction on to what they must teach at that class and they just teach it their way?  lol

basically, you can teach whatever you want however you want, as long as it's not already taken x3  You sign up by, well, stating here what you'd like to teach and who will be teaching, gender and stuff.

Oh right! Is there some kind of break time, end of day events and everything or is it just class after class endlessly?  lol

there's break times on occasion x3  the only problem being that players often just scatter, or split up into pairs, and if one player isn't there then the other player is effectively frozen.

Well, I guess you can create a subject of your own and tell it to Magus. That is what I did to get Ancient Magic. What kind of ancient magic were you going to use?

I was actually going to give a deeper thought about it if there were no professors for that, but mainly combat ancient magic.

Well mine is more about the magic that the Ancient civilization used. Origins of the name will soon be revealed in the RP, if any pony comes to my class. If you were to go with Combat ancient magic, I would love it if your class was next to mine, considering that both classes deal with old magic.

Well as a suggestion why not combine your lessons to make for an interesting scenario, or at least use both your knowledge bases in game in a single lesson

My thought about my lessons would be combat magic that has already been forgotten. Those used in ancient times.

Heh, I bet Nightstar would like to meet another user of the same type of magic. But then again, she likes magic in general so she would like to meet anyone who can share her obsession or research. She is an earth pony and casts magic through incantations. And well, yes she is very young. lol

Ah, so update for my class concerning the dragon's size is necessary:
Kyslu is still as tall as Celestia when lying down. I imagine him to be close to the length of an Ursa Minor currently, but I'm have to check how proportions work out. So he's just smaller than previously thought. Nothing is completely certain yet.

Have any ideas on how tall the average pony is?
In real life, ponies are equines that are 4'8" or less when mature. But I have no clue on how that's supposed to translate into MLP. I would set the average height at 4'4", but I don't want to impose anything on anyone at the same time. I just want a standard to compare other things to. ^^'

You can still continue the game because I know it doesn't require a large amount of GM interaction other than your new teacher system so why not continue onwards from a lunch break or something to keep the ball rolling until you decided on the next lesson

Ryo brings up a good point.  Between classes, there's often a half hour or more for students to interact or study.  A lot can happen in half an hour.

Yes. For example I can because I'm not in the class but both of my OCs are sleeping because they have nothing to do.

The teachers in the other classrooms, like myself, have all the time in the world until we are given the opportunity to teach. It's why ponies don't see much activity in teachers until they start teaching students.

So, Even though Wandering Magus Ban should be lifted for a while now, he/she/it/hermaphrodite isn't back, and doesn't look like he is coming back.
The only knowledge we have of his reason of leaving is by Bravo, who then ever so kindly, left.
What I have been able to gather, Magus was banned for the incorporation of slavery in a RP. Whether it was this or the fact that several close RPers in their group have all left, or both and more, he/she/it/hermaphrodite seems to have left us.
For this, I weep.
I wish I could know more.
I wish we knew more.
I hope we don't fall away because of Magus is gone.
I hope we continue, as was his wish.

Its a jump in RP just carry on use the OOC to decide what lesson you want to go on, Have the students do there normal activitys

and keep calm and pony on (and yes I know although I was part of this game I am not officaly anymore but If you want to bring it back I dont mind leaving one or two RP posts to move things back in a workable direction if you want. Just tell me what lesson can be run or if you want to do a brake and Ill get things moving if that is ok with the majority of you)

I know there is no reason to let this game die. I really don't want it to die either. However, it seems that without Magus, or Galvin, or Nala, or PPBG, or, well, you for that matter, people have lost faith in it.
Magus was just the last of that line to leave. I don't want to sound defeatist, but the veritable "glue" of most detailed and extensive RP's left with them. Who else but them would have had the persistence to create such detailed and open ended worlds like Cosmology? The gall to take what was known, and develop it in a way shown before like in the entire slew of Fancepants Saga? And even their failed attempts, like Silverdale Saga were strong, if albeit lacking in time.
I hate to be depressing, but with them gone, we, or at least I, have lost a bit of energy and spirit in this, and other RPs.
I'm sure I've not been the only one to notice. I really wish it wasn't so. I do want to just "keep calm and pony on" but it seems almost like it would be better solve this RP a bit, tie up the loose ends with it, and let their final work leave and let lie.
I wish it wasn't as it is, but as it is, it is.

If all who remain still wish to let this grow, I would like nothing better. If they wish it to stay, or at least be finalized, that is up for all of us to decide. I hope we can at least come to a consensus, or at least majority, on what to do.

Well, i would like this to continue, but i am a pretty recent player, just seen two classes, one of which i missed  :c
If the majority wants it to end i'll get over it as long as it will have a conclusion, hate when RPs just stop.
