i was bored and wanted to know if anyone thought they could fight a alicorn and win. i wanna know how you would handle the situation, wether you will try to fight, run, or ignore the situation.

this is my answer:

Race: pegasus ( no question about that )

How to fight: I would fly away into a cloud and hide away forever! i would fly into the clouds to lure the alicorn into a trap of storm clouds and stomp my heart out! Then while the alicorn falls i would start a tornado, then kick it off of a cliff. How would you deal with it, and what race would you be to do it?

Why would you be fighting an Alicorn? I'm 98% certain it'd be far more powerful than you (or in a certain Pink Alicorn's case, stupidly powerful for no reason), so you'd do something else.

Perhaps reason with said Alicorn, or get some powerful magic source like the Elements of Harmony to defeat them.

Curl in a ball and cry while they decide if they're going to kill or spare me. No way to fight an alicorn unless you ARE one.

Unicorn, preferably with centuries of study and research into psychology and emotions, and then just talk the alicorn into walking away or even becoming a lifelong friend :]  Psychology is quite a useful thing.

It's very unlikely, but if I had to, I would be a unicorn, and just send fireballs at (random alicorn) and dodge her attacks. Keeping my distance, attacking when she's weak. It would eventually succeed.

My very first choice would be Pegasus

My Tactic involves using reflective metal shields to deflect oncoming magic and using blunt objects as weapons.

First, I wanna state I don't wanna kill the alicorn unless I must to survive.

Now, I would rely on my pegasus speed and agility to avoid the alicorn's melee based abilities such as tackling. A counter measure to them being too fast would be tossing rocks directly at the oncoming alicorn.
For magic, I would mostly dodge but carrying a medium sized, reflective heater shield will help to protect against the spells to difficult to dodge or the ones that cannot be dodged.
Attacking the horn with blunt objects such as pans, clubs, large rocks and metal bars. Damaging it to the point of it hurting too much or even being broken would disable the alicorn's magic.
Getting on to the alicorn's back would keep it from being able to attack me and allow me to strike freely. Particularly blows to the head.

I chose unicorn because I felt Earth-ponies wouldn't be enough and Pegasi have the tactics, but still not strong enough.

A unicorn MAY be able to handle the task, assuming its a one on one fight. Itd have to be OBSCENELY powerful, though. Or get a VERY good surprise element.

In a group effort, i think any race could possibly handle it. Power in numbers, and group tactics.

That being said, fighting an alicorn, 99.9% of the time, would be a losing battle. Picking ones battles carefully is just as important a skill as fighting, if not more important.

All of that is dependent on the terrain.What if there were no clouds?What if there were no cliffs?

I doubt you can carry a shield while flying also may I remind you an Alicorn is part earth pony?It can easily buck you off its back , and that would deal great damage.

You can't talk to an NPC , and they do not decide to attack , or spare you they attack no matter what.

The alicorn is part unicorn trying shoot it from a far , or flying away to hit , and run won't work it will shoot you with even more powerful projectiles.

Earth ponies are strong , but if they get close enough to hit the alicorn will just buck you away.

Herpy dooves Earth ponies are stronger than pegasi , and unicorns they are the strength class.

Now i can agree with you on the possability that theres no storm clouds or no cliff, but even though i dont have it in a choice to choose an alicorn can be defeated by an alicorn.darn its not a choice. :c and come on now, everyone has a way they think they could win the fight and no matter what, nothing is unbeatable. and i wouldn't give up becouse someone said its unbeatable  :]

Cadence (Worst Pony) can't fight her way out of a paper bag. The other two have limits, but they're far stronger than any other pony (Twilight Sparkle's god-like magic notwithstanding).

what about Queen Chrysalis ?

Same thing, though I would remember to put something on her teeth.
Then I'd ask her about her life and such while keeping her held down, making sure she told it. I'd keep going until it makes her cry or something like that, and start stroking her gently, holding her close, that stuff.
After all, the only reason she beat Celestia was that she had gathered THAT much love.

Chrysalis beat Celestia without even trying.  And she's not an alicorn, she's a changeling.

So Blue's claim is invalid.  A qualifier is needed in order to ensure rebuttals can be met properly.

Thus far, the only pony with enough Ethos to speak properly on the subject would probably be one of the show producers, although disregarding that there are very few examples of Alicorn fights from which to draw Logos.  Pathos-based arguments, of course, would be invalid from conception in debates such as this one.

Well the topic is "If you had to fight an alicorn" so diplomacy is out of the question.

fights can often turn into diplomacy sessions if you're skilled in words :]

With dragons in Skyrim, fights are actually deadly verbal debates.
So why can't we have something similar?

would psychological manipulation with just words be considered "fighting"? :]  Like Hannibal Lecter is able to talk a sheriff into "defeating himself" (aka something violent that I can't say here on the forum) without even doing anything, or Lord Blackwood is able to talk all of London into riots and anarchy, or "Herr Adolf" is able to talk Germany into a dictatorship, all with nothing... but.... words.

The lack of information you provide about said Alicorn foe is displeasing to say the least.

First of all, we know very little about their kind bar the fact that the only ones in the show are dieties, be it the Sun and Moon raiser or some mirroring of pony cupid. So, is that Alicorn such a being too or a more common pony? What's their talent? As Twilight said a unicorn's magic is limited by their cutiemark, if theier cutiemark isn't anything close to conjuration/illusion magic then you have nothing to fear from their horn.

They can fly, but how fast? Again their talent comes into play, is their talent flying? If not then they are either flying realy slowly, sloppily or even are afraid to.

Someone called the earth ponies a strength class earlier, I would like to point out that Equestria wasn't made as an RPG and all ponies can be equally strong as long as they excersice. As mentioned by Faust, earth ponies has a magical connection to earth, not stregth, they are the ones that grow flowers, get food, make the industry and economy flow, unlike the unicorns which mostly stick to fancy stuff and Pegasi that mostly stick with weather making.controlling and flying, Earth ponies have a very much wider variety of talents, that's their strong point, not pure strength.

So, after you actually have a materialized opponent, with personality, stregths and weakness plus a talent, then come and ask again.

When all else fails, the dark will guide me to victory. As a unicorn, I will manipulate the shadows that are one with me, and evade all oncoming magic. Slowly draining the alicorn's magic from the shadows, then when she realizes that she is weak, I would come near and smack some sense into the alicorn.

I still say words are the most powerful weapon :] break any stallion or mare's will with naught but voice, ideas.  break them utterly, until they cannot even stand their own selves, bowing willingly to you without ever having to so much as lift a finger.  Preferably in three sentences or less.

Scenarios:


Now assuming I have no choice but to fight:

Summon a giant wall.
Bang boom done.

I would just use my robotic oc's because robots cant die

Alicorns are like Boss enemies in MMO games. Nopony can take on an alicorn in a full frontal battle alone. Phenomenal teamwork and excellent strategy is a must and you'll need to wear the alicorn down while making sure you and your comrades survive. Always the tanker/guardian/protector type, I would be an earth pony because earth ponies are the toughest and have great endurance. :] I would 'tank' while the others attack.

you know... just become a Draconequus and snap your claw.  tada, the alicorn no longer exists, or turns into cotton candy.  Then summon a bunch of starving rabbits and... bon appetite.

I would never get into the fight to start off with normally, however, if I had no choice, I'd use my unicorn magic that my unicorn has. Either that, or bring Pinkie Pie along.  ovO

Calmly press the pause button, enter edit mode, remove all appendages and non-life-critical organs, and unpause.  Watch bemusedly as the writhing thing on the ground screams without screaming.  Offer said writhing pile of pitiful flesh a deal: if it follows the script from this point forward, forever, it shall not have to suffer this pain and humiliation again.  Replace its muzzle and vocal chords so it can speak.

I would be smart and/or cowardly and just run. if they can make the sun and moon rise and fall, turn living beings to stone, and send other beings to the moon, I'd just run.

Just face as an earth pony. Alicorns can't help but show off their wings and horn to an earth pony. That alicorn'll be to busy to fight! Earth pony wins!
