Title: Post count issue
Post by: Skardan on 2012 Jun 01, 19:44:54
Some people lost many posts, like me and snarfgsnor.

I had over 500 and now only 180.
Snarfgsnor had over 6000 and now only 340.

Post by: Equestrian on 2012 Jun 01, 19:47:44
Madness lost about a billion lol

Threads were deleted on accident, so naturally, the posts go too.

Woah. :P
That's been fixed. Your real total was 1,140.

Post by: Skardan on 2012 Jun 01, 20:08:03
I just noticed my post counter does nothing.

I can post as much as I want but the number doesn't change.

Wait... now it's doing something
but I must be over 180 now...

Uaaah confused ._.

Now it's standing still again... woot?

Post by: snarfgsnor on 2012 Jun 01, 20:15:14
ummm just a question. why bother to joke around with the post count at all? lol
Title: Re: Post count issue
Post by: SweBow on 2012 Jun 01, 20:16:29
I think the mods activated that some boards shouldn't count posts. And then they moved them and therefore your posts aren't counted.

I will check with Perry when I see him.

I say keep rank, keep count off though
'cause then there's no reason to spam for more posts once you hit five medals.

In my opinion none of that matters.  If you post good and are good in the community everyone will know you do not need a badge to put on display.

Well, it was nice being able to tell who was actually contributing to the community and who was just a "hi ponies bye ponies" member or newbie...

Ah well.  It was nice, but we'll see how this new system affects things.  Might be better, might not be.

for long-time members, certainly.  New members looking for somepony besides "big scary mods" to get some friendly advice from, a bit more difficult, i'd think.

We always have a bunch of friendly and helpful users that frequent the introductions board.

Yeah, when I have free time I go to the introduction board and welcome new ponies.
The post count isn't what ponies on here are known for anyway. They are known for their reputation that THEY build with what they post. Because although Sonya had the most posts, almost none of those posts were in introductions or around where she could get to kow new ponies. Ponies here remember Magus for being friendly all across the boards, and remember Madness for being random all across the boards, not for how many posts they've made.

Maybe we'll have a "Faithful Student" (or something) badge not based on post counts, but instead on being a helpful member to the community given to the select few. ;)
What do you fellows think?

how about no? i think that would only create people with elitist intentions.
all things that can be achived through doing stuff will create som sort of competition no matter what. thats how we work, most of us. so i would say dont give them anything to fight over :)

I agree highly with this.
Achievements are fine, but visible badges are a no-no to me, the reasons are pretty well put above.

Okay, let's not start spamming images. Anyway, I think handing out awards would make some people jealous, and drive them to start demanding an award or posting a lot of random posts to try and get one.

That's not why they got rid of it.
They got rid of the post count because ponies were just posting to post and to raise their post count rather than to have fun, which is what they should be doing on the site. Even when the post count was there, the mods kept telling everypony that they were meaningless but obviously ponies didn't listen and still tried to compete for higher/highest post count. THAT'S why they got rid of it, to show that it truely was meaningless.

On the statistics page you can see the top ten posters, although I don't know if the numbers on those are accurate because there are other ponies who have posted more than those on the list.. I'm not sure how exactly that part works, but that is the only place left on the site that 'counts posts' in any way..  o_O
