Posts getting wiped while posting becaue of automatic logout

I typed five paragraphs of an RP response.  LoE automatically logged me out.  Going back to the previous page wiped my post.  Searching the cache couldn't find the post either.

*sigh*

can we please not have auto-logout? or somehow have the forums automatically cache your posts?  I've been on other forums where you can accidentally close the tab but the post is still there when you get back to the relevant page.

Click logout, click login (without entering the credentials), and then it'll bring up a login page.  You can choose to stay logged in forever from your computer.  I haven't logged on for several months!

I think what's more or less being a problem here is the sign in time is based on how long a users wishes to be logged in versus an idle timer.  Sadly to say you're gonna have to click on the "login" link rather than using the two quick boxes.

If that happens to you, just hit the back button, copy everything you typed (everything you typed should be there), log in, and post what you need to post.

And like Bravo said, you could have it so you're always logged in. But if you don't like using that setting, just do what I said and you should be fine if it ever happens to you again.

I've done that numerous times on these forums and it's worked fine. The website can't tell your browser what to cache like that either. The most it can do is save cookies. It likely has more to do with your browser than anything else.

I guess I'll just have to be careful when using public computers from now on then   I saw on other forums that every now and then there would be something in the corner of text boxes like this one that said "saving..." and then "autosaved".  Not sure how that works.

You could copy large posts before posting them, just to be safe.
