I dunno when they chose to name it. But meh. bleh. eh..
I'm guessing they named it before the map came out, which is why I feel kinda bad for them. Everyone in the fandom was guessing it was Las Vegas for some reason.
In hindsight, Los Angeles makes more sense, not really because of Vegas's reputation. Los Angeles = The Angels. Pegasus = The winged horse of the gods in Greek or whatever mythology.

Actually.. I think the reason so many fans thought it was Vegas is because when Rainbow Dash said it, she made Los sound like Las.
As you can see in the following, she very clearly uses Las instead of Los.

Problem is, everyone pronounces Los Angeles like Las Angeles. That's really where the problem arose, is how everyone in America pronounces Los Angeles in the first place.
