MLP: FiM SD Archive / Odd things in the show you didn't notice right away.

Now that the show's 5th season has ended and another hiatus is starting up there's been a lot of time for various things in the show to sink in.

I'm curious about those odd little things you've seen in the show that didn't quite register right away, but later on made you go "hey wait a second..."

Maybe someone else has spotted something that the rest of us might have missed or interpreted differently. This is all about speculation on those strange little details that might be more interesting when you think about them a second time.

The two things that interested me most when I finally noticed them:

This is actually something I just noticed just this weekend, but you know the updated official map we were given near the beginning of season 5? Well I remembered way back in season 2 in the episode "Secret of My Excess" that when spike was starting to steal things; one of the things he took was a globe Twilight had in the library.

Now the design of the globe is -extremely- simplified, but when I compared it to the new official map I noticed there was an uncanny similarity between the location and (general) shape of the visible major continents.

Of course I hope none of you had any headcanons about Equestria being a past or future Earth because their world apparently has an Antarctica-sized continent at their North Pole.

Spoiler: Soarin' • show

There has been a detail in Soarin's design that has had my interest since his first appearance without his goggles in "The Best Night Ever."

The detail is the almost constant tired-eye look with an extra line below his eyes that almost makes it look like he has bags under his eyes. This detail has been very consistent in his design both with and without his Wonderbolts flight suit and even appears when he appears to be relaxed. The only time you can't see it is when he's wearing his goggles (and in a few scenes of "Rainbow Falls").

I initially brushed it off at first because, with the Gala and his injury at Rainbow Falls I figured he was just under a lot of stress. However, the detail was there before the competition in "Equestria Games" where you'd think he would've gotten plenty of rest to de-stress beforehand. After that, something finally clicked in my head after watching "Rarity Investigates" because I had to go through the list of background ponies to make sure.

What I found was that there were a few other ponies that shared the same "tired with bags under the eyes" look. The ones from "Rarity Investigates" of course were Wind Rider and Stormy Flare, but there was also Filthy Rich and Pinkie Pie's father from very early episodes who also shared that look, and the one thing those four ponies have in common is that they are not young ponies.

Which begs the question: Just how old is Soarin' really? Because if you compare him to those other four he'd be old enough to be one of the mane six's dads.

So yeah, those are the two most interesting "little details" I've found to be intriguing. Go ahead and discuss them or share anything you might have found just as interesting.

Original Characters / My Little OCs of White Tail Wood

Following are my five main OCs and some backstory I am creating for them (as well as any necessary background ponies).

Things of note: They are all friends, though one lives halfway across Equestria and the other travels a lot. Four of them live in White Tail Wood which I will be developing some (non-canon) story for with some heavy focus on trolls (think The Hobbit type trolls).

Name: Dawnstar
Gender: Male
Species: Pegasus Pony
Defining Element: Honesty
Innate Magic: Wind & Light

Home Town: Cloudsdale (Actual home unknown).
Residence: Cloud home overseeing White Tail Wood.
Occupation: Freelance Performer, moonlights (literally) as a troll hunter.
Family: Thunderhead, Wind Song (Adoptive Father, Mother)

Personality: Somewhat quiet and introverted, but friendly towards everypony and possessing an excessive amount of patience. Also, very honest and truthful if a bit blunt at times.

Talents: Though posessing the ability to manipulate weather like all Pegasi, Dawnstar performs poorly at pretty much all of it. The one exception however is his ability to create very powerful and specifically focused air currents. When formed a certain way these air currents can bend light rays in various ways from simple refracting of light into spectral colors, to extremely complex mirages that mimic magical illusions.

Due to the wing power required to create such air currents Dawnstar's flying prowess has increased dramatically since he was a foal. Though not able to fully keep up with faster fliers without "cheating" he is instead an endurance flier, capable of maintaining a set speed for far longer than the majority of Pegasi.

Personality: Friendly and well-mannered and nice to everypony she meets. However, she can be a bit snobby when annoyed and can be very defensive about her cooking.

Talents: Amber has a strong affinity to fire magic which, when used to cook food, has the special attribute of altering the flavor to either make it taste even better than it could on its own (signified by a slight, bright gold glow), or make it as offensive to the tastebuds as possible (signified by a slight, dull gold glow). She is, of course, also very proficient in general fire spells as well which all maintain her distinct golden hue.

Talents: While earth ponies are known for their endurance, Sigil stands out amongst even them. Possessing and unbelievable tenacity and strength he is able to outlast just about any opponent through sheer force of will.

Talents: Lavender is a Pegasus who is very skilled in all sorts of springtime weather changes. Anything from bright, sunny spring days to dreary spring showers, Lavender can change the weather across a large area with ease. Her rain clouds in particular have a peculiar feature in that they always seem to maintain a lavender hue to them similar to her mane.

Personality: A very friendly and kind pony, Hearthglen is not afraid to lend a helping hoof to anypony in need. Giving care to the weary travelers who pass by her Inn and healing those injured by their journey's perils.

Talents: Hearthglen is a skilled herbalist and healer, able to patch up all but the most serious injuries as well as most diseases and infections with her herbal medicines. This talent is helped extensively by her ability to identify harmful and helpful species of herbs at but a glance while other ponys see the exact same plant.

Magic Color: Gold
Hometown: Canterlot
Residence: Canterlot
Occupation: Canterlot Caterer

Personality: Friendly and well-mannered though can be a bit snobby towards ponies that annoy her. Very defensive about her cooking.

Talents: Amber recieved here cutie mark at a very early age during a dinner party her parents were hosting. She was given the task of sampling the food while her parents greeted the guests. However, she thought the taste of the food would not stand up to scrutiny and tried to cast a spell to enhance the flavor.

Unknown to her, the spell she had cast did more than just enhance the taste of the food, but unlocked the hidden flavors inside. The dinner guests were amazed at the quality of food they had been served, but did not believe Amber when she admitted to having cast the spell. After a few comparative tests, however, they admitted that Amber may have done more than just cast an enhancement spell.

Amber was later taken in as an assistant caterer where she learned how to make many Canterlot dishes, and once she was old enough she eventually took ownership of the catering service of which she still runs to this day.

Note: Her special magic talent is making any food she wishes taste as amazing (or if she wishes, as horrible) as she desires. Any other magic ability is only around the average for unicorns.

Cutie Mark: Golden laurels surrounding a teal keep.
Hometown: Ponyville
Residence: Varies
Occupation: Wandering Knightpony

Personality: Has an unwavering sense of calm about him. May rush to another pony's aid if he believes they need assistance. Extremely stubborn.

Talents: Respite has always been a tough pony ever since he was a colt. While not overly strong, he has a tendancy to press his stamina and willpower to a point where other ponies would collapse from exhaustion. Holding true to his name, Respite will step in to help other ponies giving them a chance to rest.

Respite earned his cutie mark on a survival dare between a handful of other ponies in the everfree forest. They had dared each other to see who could stay the longest in the forest without fleeing in fear when a pack of Timberwolves appeared. They tried to fight the wolves off, but a bunch of foals stood little chance against the pack. Respite managed to draw the pack's attention to himself and lured them away from the other ponies until he managed to lose them across a river, after which his cutie mark appeared.

Residence: Cloudsdale
Occupation: Freelance Entertainer (Creates lightshows for plays, theatres, etc.)

Personality: Quiet and somewhat detached, but generally friendly. Very loyal to those he considers friends.

Talents: Like all Pegasi, Dawnstar has the ability to alter the weather. However, his special talent is the ability to manipulate air currents to bend and refract light in different ways. This allows him to form very detailed and deceptive illusions. This talent was realized when one of his friends was captured by a troll that had taken refuge in a nearby cave to hide from the daylight. Guiding the air currents as he went, Dawnstar brought the sun's light deep within the troll's lair which turned the startled creature to stone.

Dawnstar is also a very accomplished flyer with higher than average wing speed. However, he tries not to brag about it and usually turns down racing challenges. Preferring a much more relaxing glide to all-out sprints.
