Definitely awesome! Rainbow Dash as Black Star is perfect. Though, I've seen Twilight Sparkle as Maka, since they're both bookworms who're kind of awkward about socializing sometimes, and they both have special power.

I downloaded a zip folder containing backgrounds like this for the mane six. It was in the wallpapers folder of the MLP-VectorClub on Deviantart. I had to sort through a bunch of screenshots from the show in that folder. *Grumble*
