You could have just said that you had less time at that moment and will be coming back when you will get your things done rather than just quit if you planned on resuming later.

You could just report that you are back to resume the work to whoever you told that you were going on break rather than going through the application proces since others already know you.

Notice from Kit about 2D Artist Applications:

It's NOT all about ponies!    We paint buildings, trees, other animals, props, clothing and so on. It is to your advantage to show artwork that focus on these things. Think castles, mountainous landscapes, detailed illustrations of machines and such. Showing textured UV maps is also very important. And while nearly everything we do is vectored and so you must show this skill, we love to see other styles and mediums.    I'm adding this notice on the 11th of March so if you already submitted an application, you may update it with additional artwork and resend it.

you have to understand we are all people that have other things in real life other than making this game
some have school some have jobs, and there are always other issues that can come up that we are not able to predict so right now we cant even give a date because there are so many unknowns

I've been using Source Filmmaker recently, and have extremely basic skills, and by extremely basic, I mean I can move position 1 to 2, and move things VERY robotically. Could you guys wait two or three years so I can teach myself to animate a lot better? XD

Even if you master SFM they are making game, not an animation short  Also SFM works with TF2 and this aint it
