What still nags at my brain is that there wouldn't be hot dog substitutes without hot dogs existing.

Never considered that the non-meat based hot dogs were the original invention?

Salad exists, was there a version of salad mad entirely of meat before it?

Generally, we think of hot dogs originally being, well... sausages. Originally, they were named Dachshund Sausages, and then they were nicknamed hot dogs for short.

For a moment, I thought the pink thing beside the sandwich (not in the middle, more to the left) was jello/gelatin.
That sandwich is odd. It looks like a ham sandwich or bologna sandwich.

Or you know guys it could be just something writers put in to make the characters more relatable with our world.

I want to thank all of the artist that have drawn my OCs.

Yeah, they've kinda stopped making the food very pony and started making it more like food we eat.

[Edit]: A little off-topic, but I do hope that Fluttershy carries out proper feeding of Angel and the other rabbits, and that the foods we've seen him eat are only occasional treats.
Rabbits can only subside on things like hay and dark green leaves like cabbage, kale, and broccoli. Too many carrots, for them, is like too much sugar/candy, for us.

I am inclined to mention baked goods contain eggs.

Flamestriker

Trues, adding to the fact that Pinkie once gave Spike a quiche during Owl's Well that Ends Well.

As long as the eggs aren't fertilized by a rooster, they contain no baby but plenty of nutrients.

in that link it says they have eaten Marshmellows which are not a vegatarian diet because of the gelatin.

The Wandering Magus

they don't seem to have problems with killing worms, at least, or Fluttershy doesn't, though she doesn't eat them herself.  Remember when she fed the birds?  And Angel and the other bunnies looked like they were being fed honest-to-goodness actual rabbit food during Putting Your Hoof Down, and the bunny DID request a salad with plenty of green vegetables.

You didn't really disprove anything, except super_chris's marshmallow theory. They still eat cupcakes, cakes, baked goods, chips, etc.

Chips are usually made of vegetables. o.O Corn chips, potato chips.

And as long as an egg isn't fertilized, it doesn't count as being carnivorous, does it? Then again, if I recall, you can still bake a cake or a cupcake without using any eggs at all. Eggs aren't 100% necessary when baking a cake.

People feed real horses eggs for their coats as well, so it's not really abnormal to begin with that Ponies in the show eat them. x3

Chishio Kunrin

Oh yeah, egg is very good for the coat. It makes it healthier and shinier. :3

What's wrong with horses drinking milk, by the way? o_O If that is a complaint here, at least.

I mean, all mammals drink milk when they're young, herbivore or not.

I never imagined that there would be this many arguments about this I just thought that it would be disproved in 2 pages but now we are making the horses vegans?

Ponies and horses are herbivores, not omnivores.

Generally yes, but the discussion here is theories pertaining to the ponies in the show and whether or not they are omnivores or herbivores based on what they eat in the show

On a side note, Pinkie Pie's muffin recipe calls for eggs, confirming they use eggs in their baking.

"Yes horses can eat raw eggs, they are an excellent muscle builder and conditioner." - Link
"Eggs are an excellent source of protein, as we all know. One egg per horse per day would definitely not hurt-if you can get them to eat them! I don't know if it would be easier to feed them raw (which would be easier to mix into feed) or hard boiled (to reduce the risk of salmonella). The shells could even be ground up as a calcium supplement." - Link

Like Trege and I said, horses can and sometimes do eat eggs, and it can be beneficial for them, especially for making their coats shiny. ^-^
