"Force babies". That's what I call them anyway. Kids who joined the Air Force straight out of high school and have zero life experience. It's ridiculous some of the things they complain, reasons they regret joining and can't wait to get out for. It's as if they think being an adult in the civilian world is all sunshine and rainbows....they have no idea.

I myself am something of a chronic complainer, so when I of all people roll my eyes at someone's complaints you know it's crazy. You can tell someone's never worked in the civilian world a day in their life when they complain that $2000 a month plus food, housing, healthcare, and education at 17 years old is somehow a bad deal. For God's sake, we're not even IN the real Air Force yet, we're in tech school! I'm basically getting paid to attend college full time, and even as a lowly Airman Basic I have more spending money than I ever did working in the private sector, and I was making above the national median for my education level.

These kids are lucky they were in grade school during the great recession, they wouldn't have made it.

Yikes, my bank just gave me a massive, out-of-the-blue credit limit increase of more than 100% on my credit card. That's going to cause my credit utilization to plummet which will definitely boost my credit score. Hooray!

I thought I was socially awkward, but I can't hold a candle to my new roommate. It's super awkward being in alone with him in our room. I've been coming down the hall to the study room for my free time.

I can't wait to leave this place and finally get my own room. Just 3 more months.

Why do I have to wear glasses that make me see the same as without them? When I go to the oculist, she says I have the same amounts of myopia. How?

Are you testing indoors? If you have only mild myopia then you won't be able to perceive the difference because your vision only gets blurry in the distance, which you will only notice when outdoors and focusing on distant objects.

You don't need to wear them if you don't need them. Contrary to popular myth, going without glasses does not make your vision worse.

My GPA is dropping like a stone. I was holding down a 92 average 2 blocks ago, but the last two exams haven't been kind. I'm down to an 85 average now and they say the next block is harder.

I guess I can kiss academic excellence goodbye.

What's that? Lightning within 5? Better forbid anyone from leaving the dormitory over dinner hours. After all, letting 900 airmen go hungry is a fair price to pay to avoid the 1-in-a-trillion chance of them getting struck by lightning.

Whelp, my fears have been realized. I failed my unofficial PT test. I destroyed the strength portion, hammering out 70 pushups and 60 situps, but I failed the run by literally one second. Now I have to go to supplemental PT sessions every friday until I pass next month.

I would have been really nice someone would have told me mock PT standards are slightly more stringent than official standards. Had I know that I wouldn't have slowed down right at the end...

Well, whatever. It's only one hour a week, it won't kill me. I know I'll pass the  next test, obviously I can improve my run time by one dang second.

My case of athlete's foot cleared up over Christmas exodus, but when I came back and put on my boots I just got it again.

I really don't want to have to drop $150 on a new pair of combat boots. I'm going to try and use some antifungal spray to clean them. I'll give it 2 weeks and if it doesn't work then well, I guess I'm $150 poorer.

I'm still not getting over my case of bronchitis. I've been home for almost two weeks and it's not getting better. I have to go back to school Tuesday, I don't want to be hocking up mucus all the time in class. I'm gonna suck big time at running, but I'm just gonna have to suck it up and deal with it. I already got excused from one PT test, I'm liable to get accused of malingering if I try to get out of another.

I'm on exodus in Lousiana right now and it's been short-sleeve weather all week. I looked up the weather for Wichita Falls and it looks like things are thawing out. Thank goodness, I was getting tired of having to wake up early in the morning and stand around outside in sub-zero temperatures for an hour. I like warm, hope it stays that way when I go back.

It isn't right for those to offer junk food to the kids (not me!!! :3)I think I am lucky they don't offer food in our schools. We eat whatever. In junior high school, too , I am not sure about senior high school.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Where is the country they "deliver" food in schools?

Isn't it bad for you guys  to bring something from your home to eat?

I'm at Air Force tech school, we're required to eat at the DFAC 3 meals a day except on weekends. As a new recruit I get a meal card that let's me eat free at the DFAC in lieu of receiving a monthly 'Basic Allowance for Subsistence'. Apparently they think making junior enlisted eat at the DFAC saves them money, but I don't think that makes any sense. 90 DFAC meals per month costs the government a lot more that $370 in BAS. It would be cheaper for them to just give us BAS rather than the meal card.

So I have no choice but to eat the food they give me, but have to maintain PT standards. I have an official PT test when I graduate tech school in mid 2017. If I fail it I'll be in HUGE trouble. As in 'Letter or Reprimand' level trouble.

I'm getting fat, FAST. Something about having unlimited access to all the food I want and spending 8 hours a day sitting in a classroom causes weight gain. Who'd have thought that?

They really don't do us any favors with the food they give us access to. Somewhere between all the burgers, fries, hot dogs, tacos, chicken tenders, cakes, and pies I'm gaining my slicksleeve 15 (Yes, I made that term up on the spot). The hot meal line usually has junk like chilli Mac, lasagna, and fried chicken. The grilled salmon is delicious, but they only have it maybe once a week.

Somehow I've got to get my diet in check before I pop out of my ABU blouse. Raiding the salad bar every meal will get bland fast, though. It's ridiculous they don't give us access to more healthy foods. The food is delicious, but it's not helping my pt scores.

What's the deal with Gen-Z'ers and skinny jeans, eh? I'm a millennial, we always wore our pants super baggy...well, male millennials, anyway.

I've always worn my clothes loose and baggy. I HATE tight clothes, they make me feel fat. I can't adapt to modern fashion trends when I feel like I'm about to bust out of my clothes. Never thought I'd see the day when wearing baggy, relaxed-fit clothes made you look like an old fart.

Man, I don't even have a lawn and I'm already telling people to get off it.

So, this Monday I developed a blister between two of my toes that got worse and worse until by Wednesday morning I could barely walk. I went to the clinic and got it taken care of, they gave me a marching/running waiver for the week.

Well, today my squadron had a mock pt test, if you fail any portion you have to go to extra pt every Friday morning, which sucks, especially in the cold weather. I didn't participate because of my waiver, but I saw that for some bizarre reason we do our "1.5" mile run on the road over a poorly measured course that's almost 2 miles in actuality, but still scored by 1.5 mile standards. My waiver expires tomorrow, I get the sneaking suspicion they're going to make me make it up on Monday.

Well, I'm doomed. I'm horrible at running. I ran my 1.5 mile at BMT in an abysmal 12:40, the bare minimum passing time is 13:30. Heck, the only reason I passed with that run time is because I maxed out my strength and waist measurement scores. I feel like the combination of my sore foot and a longer run course is a deadly combination. This is gonna suck.

TFW you accidentally overcharge your credit card by $11 buying a new computer. I didn't even know that was a thing, I thought if you tried to charge more than your credit limit the charge would simply be denied. I payed it down a couple hundred dollars immediately, I sure hope this does ruin my credit.

Well this sucks. I wanted to get a new credit card but having a maxed-out credit line isn't going to look good on my application. I should probably pay it down a bit before trying. I only make $1000 a month on my paltry E-1 salary so it could be a while.

As a native born Californian, I was alarmed to see that weather for my area is forecast to snow in the next two days.  Its more just "oh hey, this is the weather around me now" and a change to be made but...windchill put it literally 6 degrees below freezing for the 10 minutes I had to walk from school to my house with food in my hand.  That was fun.

Oh and to top it off, the house I'm renting has two divided living sections...and the place I can't get to just has their smoke detector's batteries dying.  For some reason it only sounds in the middle of he night...when, you know, most students are trying to sleep.  Or study before sleeping.

I got a nice frostbite last night when I had to stand outside in the cold for 2 dang hours because of some fiasco caused by an airman in a completely different squadron. I had just got back to my dorm room for the night and was about to get into the shower when suddenly the intercom blared "Attention in the squadron area attention in the dormitory! Attention in the squadron area attention in the dormitory! ALL airmen fall out to the north drill pad in full ABUs!"

We had to wait around out there all night for a 5 minute speech. I don't think I can say exactly what happened that caused it but it sucked. I was not a happy camper.

Wichita Falls is so cold, so incredibly cold. I walked from my dorm to the DFAC this morning at 0530, which is a 5 minute walk. My face was completely numb by the time I got there.

Is this Norway? I must have taken a wrong turn somewhere and accidentally crossed the Atlantic.

Well, I did it. I completed BMT, I'm an airman now. I was at basic for a total of 10 weeks. Between medhold, BEAST holdover and a plethora of administrative problems my BMT experience was a whole lot more stressful than it's intended to be. No, need to wax poetic about it, though. BMT sucked big time but it's over, I've got my eyes set ahead to tech school.

Oh, also : Sir, trainee what? As you were, guidon bearer. That's weird, trainee.

Since I moved back home I find I'm consistently arguing with my family with my family about things, mainly my mom. You see, I'm from a rural town, and my family's beliefs are in pretty stark contrast to my own, which creates a lot of toxicity. I never bring up the issues that we argue over, but they make comments all the time that I can't just let slide. I'm a debater, if you're gonna express an opinion around me that I disagree with, you'd better be good and dang ready to defend it - because I will tear it apart.

Small, isolated communities have a tendency to become echo-chambers for certain ideas and beliefs. People grow up being taught something one way, and nobody ever challenges it because everyone in the community thinks the same way. This kind of thing is very dangerous for intellectual development. Having your beliefs challenged is a vital part of learning logic and critical thinking skills. It forces you to go on the defense and defend your beliefs with facts, logic, and evidence. If an idea doesn't stand up to those things then it's not something you should be harboring.

But when someone grows up and lives in an echo-chamber, where everyone constantly validates and reinforces their ideas without ever challenging them, it becomes deeply ingrained in their sense of reality. There is no convincing them they're wrong, the idea is part of their universe as surely as gravity is part of mine. I can show them all the hard facts, evidence, and statistics I want...it will change nothing. They are utterly convinced that they're right, regardless of all contradicting evidence. No matter how hard you try, you can't change someone's mind about a topic they've believed a certain way about for literally decades with a 5 minute debate. That's just not how human psychology works, debating can only change the minds of open minded people, if they're mind is made up it's impossible.

If there is ONE THING in this world that I truly hate, it's willful ignorance, so that causes a lot of friction with my family. However, I have to keep reminding myself that they aren't willfully ignorant per se, it's just how human psychology works. I can't expect an evolutionary adaptation that's been part of the human brain for millennial to change in the relatively short time globalization has existed. The reason I was able to avoid the 'echo-chamber trap' is because I spent a ton of time on the internet when I was growing up. I was always bombarded with opposing views and opinions which made me naturally skeptical.
