I got pointed to this news today by a university hacker group: security convention ShmooCon is doing a "Capture the Flag" contest, where the goal is to find "flag" data by invading various computer systems in a controlled, legal environment.

This one's noteworthy because of the, ah, unusual format and content, partly because it's a playable MMORPG where cheating is encouraged. Have a look here.

From their site: No, really! We are security professionals that want to help game designers understand how and why players are able to take advantage of design and programming flaws. By creating a game that is intentionally flawed, we can create an example for developers of what not to do. Our hackable components all live in their own sandbox, too (the net code and game logic are completely custom), so you won't have to hack the engine (Unreal 4) itself!

You see, Pwn Adventure 3 isn't about being a really fun MMORPG (although, we certainly hope it is!). It's about providing hacking challenges for Ghost in the Shellcode 2015 and educating video game developers. After the limited release of the game, we intend to provide write-ups and examples of the flaws present in the game. We hope you'll show off all of your awesome hacks, too!

Did you see the Season 5 animatic yet? It has actual show footage and voices, in prototype form. Spoilers, obviously.

Spoiler: show

I'm a bit puzzled to have still not gotten a reply. Has anyone been contacted yet about our applications?

All of the team leaders are very busy and get a lot of applications. Unfortunately it's hard to know if they haven't gotten to it yet or if it's a no, sometimes. I'd wait a full month (maybe two) before assuming it's a no.

Ah, all right. Thanks for the clarification. I had just sent out a "poke" e-mail before checking this thread. I look forward to seeing what's next for LoE in any case!
