That's not why they got rid of it.
They got rid of the post count because ponies were just posting to post and to raise their post count rather than to have fun, which is what they should be doing on the site. Even when the post count was there, the mods kept telling everypony that they were meaningless but obviously ponies didn't listen and still tried to compete for higher/highest post count. THAT'S why they got rid of it, to show that it truely was meaningless.

On the statistics page you can see the top ten posters, although I don't know if the numbers on those are accurate because there are other ponies who have posted more than those on the list.. I'm not sure how exactly that part works, but that is the only place left on the site that 'counts posts' in any way..
