Title: Open Server Weekend Update

Hello everyone! We wanted to give you all a quick update on the situation with our servers.

The attack subsided early this morning and we were able to restore our servers to working order. The servers are still receiving a higher than normal load; because of this, you might receive errors attempting to connect to the servers. Please note that we are gathering data on the issue, and if you aren't able to connect now, please try attempting to connect in a little while.

If you find yourself stuck in a huge aerial view of the landscape after loading the game, this means you are currently in the waitlist. You will spawn in the area once an opening appears in the game.

I think they don't have as many servers open this time round, thats why some people are on the wait list for so long.

That's better than I am. I keep hitting update and it says "503 error server unavailable." I can't even get in the game! :(

Try not using the launcher and just the executable. When I execute the game on x64 I can log in and, if lucky, see the server listings. >.<

Can someone check Levade server, its the most stable but no one can spawn.

It's unavoidable, you can thank the individuals that initiated that DDOS attack. Server Equus is the only one that works, even that it is sporadic.

I would be on the game, but it's dinner time right now so I can't get on. Oh well, let's hope they put another server (or six) up by tomorrow, so the servers have a slightly more even load.

I am having the same 503 server unavailable problem, even when I used windows 64 bit. All it says is server listing and underneith that status. Hopefully I get in soon. :(

You Guys need to chill, its srsly not LOE teams fault  :s there trying there very best to fix everything you guys. you Guys should be thankful they are still trying to fix everything and make everything better. cause yelling at them is not Helping them ok go eat or somthing watch tv, play TF2,gmod ect do somthing then yell at the LOE Team.                            GIVE THE LOE TEAM A BREAK OK GEEZ  :c

As much as i want to play right now but cant cause im stuck in Cantermore, im waiting Nicely for them to fix it. Be nice to the LOE team remember Friendship is Magic my Friends  ^-^   0:)

Being stuck in a sky view of Cantermore for more than 30 minutes until the music grates is not fun. Despite 'wait lists' I never get in.
Being stuck in Cloudopolis, when I want to be in Ponydale is not fun.
Cantermore is a necessary stopover to my destination AFAIK, I don't want to wait hours to get into somewhere I'll spend maybe 30 seconds in.

So far the OSW has been an unenjoyable failure for me.

Still despite this, I understand the problems are not the LoE teams fault. Hopefully this gets fixed before the end of the OSW.

I just tried to login again..
Europa server failed to connect
Equus server n/a
Levade server got me to aerial wait, after 10 mins i manually logged out.

If you people at the server end are getting frustrated, what do you think we are.
personally i am over it, if you are after my opinion. lol

The Mac client crashes at the oddest times. The worst is while logging in. If it crashes mid-login, next launch the server reports "That user is already playing" which is false.

At this rate they may as well put up another six servers, I'll wait if I have to, because I have my phone and music, but I really do want to play. If this keeps up they may as well extend the open server another day.

Do you think you can get the game working by 2morrow?  I have been waiting for the past week to be able to play for the first time but I only got in 3 times and each time I was messing with the movement settings to get myself situated before the game either a: crashed or b: ran out of connection time or something.  :c

i just Feel Bad for the Whole LOE team :c getting yelled at for no reasson. if only i knew how to do that kind of stuff i would so go help right now  <3

I'm really happy it's starting to work better than the last week the server opened. It's really fun but try to fix some bugs. There is a slight bug that where you go to Canterlot (Cantermore) it just loads for a long time and then I can't go into my "pony view" so please fix that ^-^

It's good to know why the game stayed on the aerial view, but some notification that you're in a waiting list would've probably saved some frustration on both ends.

Still, I only had so much time I could set aside to play today so waiting wasn't really an option for me. Hopefully I can get some time tomorrow, but if not this weekend will be a big bummer for me.  :c

Waiting list? But what's that for exactly? Not blaming anyone for the trouble we're all going through, but what exactly is the waiting list doing? Some games have a waiting list if the server is full, but here, if the server is full, it tells us before we connect.

Is it possible that people get in anyways despite that it's full?

Hey all! We know there's a lot of problems with the game at the moment, and you can bet your behind we're working ours off to get everything working as well as it possibly can. There's been a lot of trouble for us to deal with on our end, from that rather inconvenient attack on our servers to just general massive overcrowding, but we're doing our best to sort everything out - and this kind of experience will be invaluable for later development of the game.

I just want to thank you all for being patient with us during all this. LoE, after all, is still in a pre-alpha state, and these tests are fantastic for us to get as much info as possible about the game to make sure that, when it's finished, it'll hopefully run smoothly; you are all helping us to make this game better!

In the mean time, the servers are still open, and (barring any further naughty shenanigans) should be remaining open until the planned end at 11:59pm EST on January 26th. We don't plan to extend the servers beyond that time; they're not free, after all, and everybody on the team here is a volunteer on the project, with real-life stuff to do during the week. You know, jobs and education and other sucky stuff. It's pretty hard to maintain the game while most of the team is MIA!

Also, a quick note on waiting lists: I know they're super frustrating, but they are fairly typical for MMO games like this. i can't tell you the amount of times I had to wait for a number to tick down before I could get online, back in my WoW days! We are working on things at our end, but for now, I'm afraid you'll just have to be patient!

Hard to tell; it depends on how popular the area you're trying to get into is! if you've been waiting that long, though, it might be best to try logging out and go for a different server, or try a different area (each pony race starts off in their own city, so if you can't get online as a unicorn in Cantermore, maybe try going as a pegasus in Cloudopolis, at least until things calm down!)

Step 3: Get to his house first and videotape SWAT busting his door down

If anything, another server would probably help chill down the wait time, and even though I know that you are all working your butts off to do this, it would be very much appreciated!

Two suggestions I would like to make:

1: Maybe find a way to notify in-game that the aerial view is a waiting line for a busy zone. I thought something was wrong with the game so I kept restarting it (which of course just reset my position in the waiting line). If I had known that I was actually waiting in a queue I would've actually sat around rather than waste what free time I had to play in frustration thinking something was broke. As I mentioned earlier, this would probably have saved a TON of frustration for both you and the players.

2: More travel routes, preferably one between ponydale and cloudopolis because I highly doubt a lot of people know you can travel through the heartlands to get between the two towns. This is probably one of the big reasons why cantermore was so bogged down. Not only did you have unicorns spawning there, but you also had earth ponies and pegasi trying to travel back and forth between towns (though I'd bet there were more pegasi trying to get to ponydale than the other way around). Granted the heartlands was having a similar problem as cantermore but from the sounds of it it wasn't quite as bad.

In an ideal world, we'd just be able to put up dozens of servers to deal with the load, but these things cost money and time to get sorted out, two things we don't really have a massive supply of. We're working on it, but don't expect miracles!

I think a notification about waiting times is something we've got on the cards, thanks to this OSW; thanks for bringing it up, though! As for travel routes, I believe we plan to have them far more clearly signposted in the final version of the game, so getting around should be easier. We do have a little section on the 'servers are open' post that's supposed to explain how to get between areas, but it looks like it hasn't been updated in quite a while, so I'll try to prod people to get that sorted out!

As I've said before, waitlists are (disappointingly) common in MMOs, especially duing busy periods; we're working on getting the times down, but there's not a lot we can do while the servers are so full. Again, as I said earlier, it might be best to try another area; Cantermore seems to be very full, for example, but Ponydale has been having fewer problems in my experience.

No need for much frustration at them. They're trying their best to get things sorted, and they can't do/fix everything, but they surely try their best to do what they can.

I'm not sure if the waitlist has been implemented previously or not. If it wasn't present last time, then not seeing it would probably be because of a couple of reasons:

a) assuming you're referring to the short-notice test we did in December, there were far, far, far fewer people trying to get onto the servers, due to the fact that we hadn't announced it long in advance like we did with this one, which would mean that the waitlist rarely (if ever) came into effect;

b) the server probably just refused to connect people to the game, rather than putting them on a waitlist and trying to get them in when it could. Personally, if I had to choose between 'being put on a list with a chance to get into the game eventually' and 'being outright rejected and having an error code spat at me', I'd pick the former. It's having troubles right now, sure, but hopefully that's something we can work on between right now (i.e. the middle of a test event) and future events/the actual release of the game; and/or

c) we weren't dealing/recovering from a DDoS attack at the time.

Glad to see a waiting notification is being considered. Better indication of what travel route goes where would likely help too. Still, I've felt an airship between the two towns would've been a good idea since the first OSW I participated in. It just seems like common sense to me to have an extra way of travelling, and I'm sure it would relieve some of the traffic through cantermore.

I have to sympathize with the people that want to play unicorns too. I've played a pegasus every OSW and wanted to try a unicorn this time around myself, but the sheer amount of traffic through cantermore has effectively prevented that decision.

Still, I'm sure you are all doing your best to resolve all these issues within your ability, and I appreciate that a game like this even exists at all. I'm just sad because I probably won't get a chance to enjoy it this time around.  :c

I am  not sure if the game is captable or the servers, but another suggestion that might help, If not it's worth a thought.

I played a MMO Game called Champions Online. The way it dealt with Players is we had Map Zones. Like For example if a a zone reaches 100 players (Max cap) it would create another Zone. Like Name of Map#1 and Name of Map#2, Players can switch zones freely as well.

It's a idea that might work in a later future if it cannot at this stage that's fine.

AdventureQuest Worlds does the same thing, and yes, if possible, it would be a good idea.

It's a good idea, and I wasn't aware of it before; it might be something the team's already considering, but I'll definitely bring it to everyone's attention.

From what I understand, the current way the servers work is that when one is full, it puts players into a queue, and when there's room either on that server or any other, it puts them on there. The problem at the moment seems to be that all of the servers are full, at least in certain locations, which means that each one has a queue it's trying to deal with, which is increasing the wait time exponentially. Hopefully we'll be able to improve on that in the future (better systems, more servers, etc.)!

Yeah, it's a pretty standard feature with all of Cryptic's mmos. Startrek and Neverwinter do the same thing. Once a zone reaches a certain population it starts a new instance to put people in. For less busy areas you'll maybe see one or two instances, but for busier areas like the general hubs the instances will climb into the double digits.

It lets them maintain their whole game population on a single server system while preventing busy areas from getting overloaded, and of course there is an option to switch to another instance to meet with your friends as long as the instance isn't full.

In any case, I can't have Ember (my OC) play (she is a unicorn), wih the screen being stuck in the Overview of Cantermore. But apparently an Earth Pony spawning in Ponydale is fine.

Any MMO implementing map instances suffers from player seggregation.
There are workarounds in some MMO like placing friends and friends of friends in the same instance, but it is just masking the real problem. If you play MMO like me to meet new people, any instancing of hub maps makes it ridiculously hard to meet someone.
I've lost sight of countless chat partners this OSWE just by moving through a portal e.g. entering Sugarcube Corner.

Please stick with one server - one instance and if the server is full, add more servers.

Apparently there are a few that cant see servers , going by the comments on the threads, I can see three servers, and can log in, but all I see when I log in is this aerial view "waiting q" and I give up after about 10 mins or so.

I was actually able to log in for about 5 mins b4 i got logged out.
Saw cloudopolis and cantermore, was about about to go into the forest b4 i got logged out.
BTW, The NPC's at cantermore don't want to talk to me, but the cloudopolis ones do.

I had my fun, it has been sporadic, & I had to log in numerous times to enter the game. And obviously the server & webpage & forums are still under DDOS attacks because they keep going down.  Hence the few servers operation, when they work, are overloaded with players. I've had my avatars stuck in one part of the game or another when I'm stuck in waiting mode, either in Cantermore (my main character Night Star is stuck there) or Cloudopolis, & sometimes The Heartlands (which seems to be the case right now with my second character Pegasi Cookie Crumb  ovO).

Despite that, I patiently make numerous log in attempts & have bee successful to play the game. Have visited the Crystal Kingdom, explored Ponydale new layout (it grew as it seems), & completed one quest, and what do know... I'm finally in Cantermore again, playing with my main character Night Star. :]  The key is patience.

The staff of LOE are doing their best despite the attacks on their site & servers. Just try & try again & you will be rewarded. :D

Might I add that if you decide to implement that then it may be worthwhile to also add a kind of 'follow' function. That is, if you meet other players in a zone and want to all move to another area then you would want to follow them. Then the server would try and keep your group together by choosing an instance that has enough space or creating a new one if needed.

It could do something similar for friends and herd as well. Take preference over other instances based on how many friends you have in that instance, and herds would automatically follow each other through portals (assuming I'm right in what I think the herds thing does. I haven't actually tried it).

I know you are working hard I'm just really dispassionate because i can't play tomorrow because of school and stuff, i really wanted to play but i guess i can't :( i think it's safe to say this was a failed OSW

In two days, I probably just played 15 minutes if I count "one minute by here, one minute by there"... And I can feel I am lucky because there are many people who just can't play at all. What is the interest to extend the maps if nobody can play? "Oh yeah, the server fails, a bit of people can connect and play, but the most important, is we have modelised the crystal empire."

It's the worst beta version I ever played.

I can't teleport from cantermore to heartlands either. all I get is a log out and a crash log file
Also Europa server seems to be the only one letting me log in at the moment.
The server end guys and gals will get lots of data from this, but as users go, its not the best.

I'm not even sure if this weekend's open server is just a bust for most of us that can't play and enjoy the game. I may be right on the bad start or weekend part, but we can't get a 1-day extension for staff and devs reasons. I hope they can make up for lost time on the next open server weekend or so.

If I recalled correctly, this didn't happen on the previous open servers due to bronyCons. Maybe this stuff shouldn't happen like this in bronycons?

(AERIAL VIEW TIP HERE) I used to be stuck in the aerial view but I got pasted that by closing the game, restarting it and instead of choosing the server I tried last time I would choose another server. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't but I was patient and it eventually worked and I got in. I hoped that helped someone.

Well I think I found a partial fix to the issue. Make an earth pony and it should let you play. I tried it myself and it actually worked. The only problem is that you can only stay in Ponydale. If you try to go to any other areas you get the bird's eye view glitch. Hope this at least partly help!  ^-^

yeah I server bounced to get all 3 of my characters to one area.

Took me 6hrs of random server hop and I ended up getting my Unicorn and Pegasus free from there crashing worlds... Oh well won't be able to play all day till about the time the servers will go down if they shut them down on time...  ono

thats due to over loaded servers, when I went on a random hop of servers.
The servers with full player slots that I did get on had slow character load up. After a reboot of a server they loaded up almost instantly.

They should focus on 3 major things.

1. leveling system for pony`s (exp, skills, point pool, things that are in rpgs a d expected)

2. wait list. get rid of it. you can do a anti flood at login or do a wait list for pony selection. The wait list crashes and locks up and then no one can spawn.

3. should have 2 server run all the time and 1 server on private for testing, the OSW is not long enough to implement updates and not test them live. The team needs alpha testers that can be on as much as possible and stay in touch with the team to test whatever and whenever they needed it tested.

I have alpha and beta tested for 15 years and this OSW is more like a stress test that should be done in beta stages and LoE is still pre alpha.

Do not get me wrong, its fun but more like a roll play, pony chat, dancing, faced hooved, and less of a rpg MLP game.

I realize this weekend ended up being a flop for a lot of people, and I have a feeling the majority of people who wanted to play the game haven't been able to and likely won't be able to. I feel especially bad for the first-time players who only just joined up and likely weren't able to play a game that looks like (and is) a lot of fun when it's working properly.

The DDoS at the beginning was of course an unexpected problem caused by some guys out there who had nothing better to do than to ruin everyone's fun. The server login issues are of course another matter. Every open weekend I've been in has had a problem with the sheer volume of people trying to sign in. While it probably could've been handled better this time around they were likely trying to avoid some of the problems the previous open weekends had and it ended up backfiring. If nothing else they've learned a few things and hopefully future open weekends will more successfully avoid such problems.

Then of course there is also the fact that each additional server costs money, a lot of money most likely. Yes it would be awesome if they could afford to have enough servers up so everyone can log in without issue. Hopefully they can do so in the future, but if they can't afford it, they can't afford it.

That said, the amount of rage being thrown at the team is a bit ridiculous. Yes they are aware of the problems, yes they are doing everything they are capable of within their ability to do so, but they are only capable of doing so much and yelling and hating on them doesn't help anyone. Be happy a game like this even exists in the first place.

For me, I lost, I repeat -lost- my only chance to play this weekend, and while I am upset about it and have voiced my disappointments the amount of vitriol being launched at the team is just saddening. If you're going to complain, at least try to be constructive about it. Raging for the sake of raging just makes their already stressful weekend even more so.

Server hop and only sit on that screen for 30sec, keep doing that. You will get out. I was stuck there too  ono

What are you talking about? The game is super playable, the crystal kingdom and ponydale are fairly easy to get into. Cantermore for some reason seems to be super busy, it's so hard to find a spot there. Why did you give up?

Also, does anyone know of good places to go? Like the evershade forest or a shop or a quest? I'd like to go on a quest but can't find any NPC for that. Help, please.

This isn't even close to being the final product. This game is still in PRE-ALPHA testing, so of course things aren't working at optimum levels. The waitlist dillemma wasn't an issue before because there are SO much more people playing than in previous years. On top of the attack, of COURSE it's going to take forever for people to log on. Servers aren't cheap, so it makes sense that they can't extend the event. The team is not getting paid for their effort to build this amazing game, so we must be patient with regards to server issues.

Not sure if you noticed, but the Waitlist thing WAS there in previous renditions of the game. It only lasted a few seconds because there were not nearly as many people playing on top of the internet attack, so it's not an arbitrary feature that was put in "just because."

Cantermore has been working properly for the past few hours, if you so desire to play as your unicorn OC.  :P

Yo, look on the bright side! The mods and all the team members did an awesome job setting up this Open Server Weekend, and they even fought off a DDoS attack of all things. There were issues, but that's to be expected when you're beta testing new software to thousands of people on dozens of different computer platforms on six different continents. I'm surprised the servers aren't on fire.  o.O

Personally, I want to give a big thank you to all the Legends of Equestria team members for putting up with all this stress to bring some pleasure to the community.  <3

I just want to say Thank You for all the hard work on this OSW! :D I know it isn't perfect, but I did have lots of fun in Ponydale and meeting other strugglers on the forum or in the game. I know this is a testing weekend for the team too. I hope you got all the data you need to continue making this game awesome. We appreciate everything, we're just venting a bit. ^-^ Everything I saw was amazing and I'm willing to wait however long it takes to fix it all up. It is so awesome! Thank YOu!

Even if you didn't get to play this weekend, know that your feedback is helping make the game better. Be frustrated, but don't complain away the whole weekend.  :') You are going to get to play one day glitch free in the future, but this team is giving of their time and talent to give us this for free. Your patience and support will help speed things up instead of just saying things that makes the team feel bad and less motivated. They know you're unhappy and there's not much they can instantly do. But next! Next time will be even better!

While I will say that last year's OSWs were better, it's not like this OSW was completely unplayable. It's actually easy to get in during the off-peak hours when most other people are asleep.

Sure, maybe areas like Cantermore and the Heartlands are broken. And the mines. And Evershade Forest.

But that doesn't mean you can't still have fun in the other places.

They are doing their best, they weren't expecting so many ponies, I think they did a great job and got it solved quickly so we could play on Sunday. I had a wonderful Osw (forums was sadly down entire time for me tho) and met so many ponies and had a absolute wonderful time!

Don't work for all, my creator locked changes, so I made 3 different pony's and slowly moved them to ponydale over a period of 6hrs...

Indeed. All things considered, I think they did a pretty decent job and the point of the OSW isn't so much to play the games as to test the new server approach and in that regard, we (the community) over did it a bit. They sought to remedy the ridiculous lag and inability to login to the game of previous OSWs by taking on the new instanced approach combined with spawn queues per area. It also made some degree of sense to run a test with 3 servers, running 2 instances each to see how things perform in relation to the 5-6 servers of previous OSWs under similar load. What they didn't expect was a massive DDoS and a substantially heavier server load that they didn't know how to handle. While ideally, no mmo would have instancing of any sort, it's understandable for a small game like this that develops such a large community. Eve Online for example is one of the few mmo's that does not use instancing and has two regular servers... one for China and one for everyone else as well as an extra test server. The main server 'Tranquility' is known for having easily 20-30K players on at any given time. The main difference is that each one of the thousands of solar systems is run on it's own hardware node, so it works out pretty well. A small game like Legends of Equestria on the other hand with only a handful of distinct areas is not so lucky (nor anywhere near as well funded), and thus they must do everything they can to balance server loads and performance with minimizing the cost of their server rentals, never mind the massive volunteer effort to keep everything from falling apart while the game is up. They tried a new approach to their server model and it had mixed results. Adding another server or two might indeed even handle the increased load, however from a technical standpoint, this was clearly a necessary test. No doubt this is something that they are doing everything they can to resolve. As far as the vitriol is concerned, it's unfortunate but to be expected for an online game. To those spewing it (you know who you are), how dare you! You consume their time, bandwidth, and rented computing resources, and then come on their forums (using more of those same resources) to yell at them for their free, WIP service not working properly under an unexpectedly high load. Does anyone know where "Midway Road" is? Some pony in this quest name Astral Charm in Cantermore said "Swift will be somewhere along the Midway Road. Or, you know, in the entire sky between Cantermore and Ponydale. It's her problem not mine." so I can't find this "Swift" pony. Please help me >.<

THIS. Perfect! We should be grateful for having the opportunity to play this game, because the staff here are doing it out of their volition, with limited resources. Sure, not a lot of us got to play, but you know what? Things can ALWAYS improve. We shouldn't be entitled and rage at the staff, unlike many users, unfortunately. All things considered, the latter half of the weekend went by pretty smoothly. :3  0:)

chrystal empire is from the ponydale train, click on sign, dunno appleewood, never accessed it

Ah. Thank you. I got to applewood by going to the train that is supposed to take you to ponydale from cantermore and with another pony from trying to enter what looked like Rarity's house.

"That user is already playing"
but I can surely say that I have not a second instance of the game open with my account playing on the server.
And it does this error on the only two servers available at the moment.
Can someone help me?

Well, like I said, it doesn't matter because I've removed the game from my laptop and will never be able to play this game ever again due to having to get a job eventually and pretty much being unable to do anything I want to do anymore.

People seriously need to stop bashing against the LoE team so bad for something that they are doing for FREE, you are not paying any kind of retail price for the game or paying monthly fee to have the right to complain about the unstable state of the servers, they are doing all that they have in their hands, but they have their own lifes too and i don't get how some people expect them to extend the osw more so they can feel satisfied thinking that the team dont have their own problems to deal with, if your not paying anything for it then you don't have the right to complain because you're not a customer, you're a user enjoying a free downloadable software, nothing more.

i personally haven't played much of this OSW because of my job, and the fact that when i come home i am barely able to connect and play a little bit before some kind of error kicks me out, but am i mad?, why should i? I've been more than happy to play,even if it's only for short periods just seeing the new things that they added, and that's enough for me.

 I understand well that this is a beta and that there are kinks to work out, but I couldn't even get into a session of the game over the whole weekend. Everytime I clicked logged in, I got a screen that said server status and blank under it.

I've said it before and I will say it again..... This time bigger.... Okay here it goes *takes in a deep breath*

Not Alpha, not beta, PRE ALPHA!

What that means is ITS GONNA HAVE BUGS! It's going to crash and burn, its going to have issues and to top it all off... Almost all issues that happened was due to a DDos attack.

So not only is the game overloaded with just the people here in the forum, but ALSO any bandwidth left was killed by the DDos attack.

So say it with me... ITS FREE, its PRE-ALPHA, and the LoE team handled it VERY well considering the lack of resources that a big time multi-million dollar company could have done (like Blizzard and CCP Games (EvE Online))

Thank You LoE Team! You guys are 20% Cooler for learning from this chaotic weekend, now the game can develop in a much positive way.

Hi PunkOfSteam, can you make sure that you are not using an older build of the Client from the December tests please. People who are encountering the applewood issue are generally using an older client that causes you to be sent to the wrong room.

Maybe it's just because I got up in on this so late, but I really didn't have the experience-destroying issues that everyone is complaining about? The game crashed on login a few times, but the third time I tried it, it worked just fine. I had a little bit of wait before getting into some areas, but certainly not the 3-hour aerial-view jam session that I keep hearing about!

Other than the wait, I had some ulta-minor issues- the chat window kept jumping to the top and making it so I had to scroll down to see new messages, and the combat system was kind of frustrating- I couldn't always tell what my moves/actions were supposed to do. Also at some point my hotbar decided to ditch the emotes (sit, facehoof, etc.) and just copied the first half of the bar over them?

There was also some stuff that I won't mention because it has already been covered extensively by other people.

I wonder if maybe there might be a way to donate in the future, so that fans can help support the server costs? I understand completely if that's not possible due to legal concerns.

Thinking of that also has me wondering something totally unrelated to the OSW- do you guys think it would be possible to get specific permission from Hasbro to do this? I have seen way too many fan projects C&D'd when they start gaining traction, and I think that is a very very real threat with a game like this.

Notice how copyrighted the names ingame are.
Seriously.
Just.. do that.
I don't think they CAN get C&D'd. Worse thing that can happen is maybe changing the name of the game, but I'm not sure anyone can copyright "Equestria".

All it takes is a boat load of money and a super greedy lawyer and even you can be copyright banned.

The only way to stay out of the way of copyright lawsuit is to stay free and only accept donations. Once the LoE team charges anything to play, Hasbro will shut it down quick.

Unless the LoE team pays like a 40% royality charge for it then Hasbro gets paid and we get real MLP content.

I could see Hasbro stealing LoE for there own greed.
