Sveta was simply walking towards the diner, when suddenly he was accosted by Check! ((Checks words go here!))
"Oh! Well, that's nice! I do believe I shall" He managed to stammer out.
As he continued walking towards the diner, he asked "I know it is cold out, but why the blanket? If it was that bad, I wouldn't have been flying."

Sveta flew back through the squall. It had become clear when he went over to Ponyville that the inclement weather was nigh' solely upon the Everfree. "I do hope she doesn't keep doing that," he grumbled.
His gruff mood might have something to do with the fact he was covered in bits and pieces of wax, especially his front talons. However, the snow was a excellent reminder to him of good things.
Speaking of snow, he lighted down next to a snow sculpture of unintelligible make. After a moment of examination, it became clear, it was a pony. "... Strange craftsmanship..." he muttered.
After a moment to shake his head, he began to head over to the diner.

He gets a distant look in his eyes for a moment, before he gasps, "Oh my gosh! I can't believe I almost forgot!" Turning back to Sweet, "Terribly sorry, I have to go pick up some product for a friend... " He scrambles to his feet, "Sorry, terribly sorry!" He rushes out of the house, and takes off into the storm...

Sveta gives a light chortle, "Oh, well that's a long story. The short version is rather easy, I work in Cloudsdale. Like many there, I work for the Equestria Weather Team, and I specifically work with a sector that covers the Everfree. Then, long story short, I got sent on a mandatory vacation,"
He gives a shrug, "And I figured, "Why not check around the Everfree? See If you could figure some of it out" And so, vioula! I am here." He gives a light chuckle. "Still don't understand any more about the darn place though."

Firstly, As said below, there is one constant I have found in practicaly everything. "For every rule, there is an exception, even this." So I can only say for most OC's what problems might be.
A big thing that bothers me, is names. Chances are, if your name includes things like: Master, King, Boom, Rainbow, Explosions, Power, yada yada, It needs some more, muchness. This is a leading tip off that the following OC may just be a Power Point Stew in a pony shape. Sometimes not even pony shaped.
Second thing, Names. Different thing. If I can read your name, and imedeatly guess what your talent is, it makes me intrigued. Usually, it means you can't think of something else that would fit. EXEPTION 1: Like a recent OC I've talked to, sometimes the they have a family name that is what things are related to. Example: The Apple Family EXEPTION 2: Recently, I've figured, "Since there are so many canon ponies with clearly cutiemark related names, perhaps at the cutie cienera, there is a renaming ceramony if they wish. It would explain a lot..."
Third thing. OP. Usually handled poorly.
Fourth thing. They aren't normal... This is a bit esoteric, but a lot of OC's seem just so... off. They can have tragic backstories, that isn't a problem. Equestria can't all be sunshine and rainbows, look at Manehatten, an alicorn couldn't get a cab. They can even be outrageously colored, but if they aren't handled well, it feels so... off. I want to say things like, stiff and ridged, almost mechanical, but that doesn't cover everything. It is almost as if you can feel them being used. It doesn't feel organic.

After finishing drying off for a minute or two, Sveta headed over to the dining section of the home and looked around for a moment. There was the stallion who came in behind him, Joy, and a mare he had seen a couple times.

Sveta turned around, only to be surprised by a floating glass of tea. He thankfully took it, and began looking for the pony for whom he should thank. However, figuring the master of the house was responsible, he loudly spoke towards the kitchen, "Thank you kindly!" He then proceeded to wait till he was dryer and drank some tea.
