Well, after weeks of hard work and suspense, I am proud to announce that the Legends of Equestria writing auditions have officially come to a close! The other finalists are, once again, very likely to be called upon to join the team at a later date, but at this time, I would like to officially welcome our four new writers to the Legends of Equestria staff! The staff gives a warm welcome to:
- Alextrazsa
- Nonnavlis
- Andrew Sean
- Virtus Invicta
And again, thank you to all who participated. It has been a lot of work for those of us judging, but it's well worth it to see such talent be added to our ranks. So, remember to congratulate our newest team members, and stay posted for more exciting news and updates from Legends of Equestria!
Your faithful administrator,
Bloomberg
YES!!!! I've literally been eagerly waiting for this moment all week :D
Now lemme just read over the rules and I'll get right to work!
EDIT: This sounds easy enough. I definitely have the determination, and I at least know plenty of people who think I have the skill, so I'm up to the challenge! Would the MLP screenplay I wrote a while back count as something I could submit? Also, are we limited to one sample of our work, or could I send in more than one?
I just might send one in... ovO

I have added rule #4 in consideration of this post. Thank you for the reminder.

No problem. Now I just need to decide which of my works are the best to send in and then make absolutely sure they're 100% grammatically correct (aside from character speech patterns, obviously :P).

Excluding the concepts mentioned in rule 2, any and all subject matters are accepted. It does not have to involve ponies, nor does it have to be entirely appropriate for children. I won't show your stories to anyone outside the team, and I won't judge based on whether or not I agree with the themes or opinions presented in the stories. If someone were to write me a fantastic essay on all the different reasons Bloomberg is a blathering idiot, I would accept it without hesitation.
I
almost take this as a challenge.. ovO

I'm not going to be partaking in this, but I actually do have an urge to do it so strong that I must get back to writing this suggestion for Starbound before I actually start.
I might probably throw something in, will need to proofread a lot >.< . (english is not my main language)
A question, how long the poems, essay's, stories, need to be? I have a somewhat essay already posted somewhere on the internet, and if needed i will try to write more of it.
I'm not much of a writer, but good luck to everyone else! :D
i just sent one in! im doing it for the fun... i dont care if i win or not :D but if i do, i will be happy!
in my email it says that my name is Grace
Challenge accepted!
Hello, I've been watching LoE develop for a while now and I'm eager to try and join the crew. I'll do my best and try not to crack under the INCREDIBLE pressure.
I'm only 14. Can i still apply? Writing is my hobbie!!!

Well, you're still welcome to apply, but I would agree that when you do, you ought to watch that spelling rather closely. I'll be reviewing applications personally, and if I weren't a stickler for grammar, I probably wouldn't be Editor-In-Chief right now. That's not to discourage you from trying, of course.
Question; Do you want every chapter posted, or is one chapter acceptable?

Either will do nicely.
This shall be fun!
Good luck to all who apply! ^_^
So, just to clarify, can we only submit one example of our work, or could I send in both of the best examples I can think of if I want?
I suppose I should have asked this BEFORE I sent the e-mail, but what's the policy on works in progress? Not, say, something that's still in the editing phase, but something that's the first couple chapters of a story that is still underway?

I was curious about this as well, because I've only published one story so far, though I have a few in progress, so i planned to send excerpts of them and then another new project just for this

I will accept works in progress or multiple examples of work from first-round applicants, yes. The important thing is that it's enough for me to gauge your abilities as writers, and this can be done using as much or as little as you choose to give me, within reason. For instance, one sentence is probably not enough to fulfill this goal, unless you're very bad at this.
To those who are wondering how much content to give Bloomberg, ask yourself this: "How long do I need it to be in order to convey my prowess of the English language?"As he's said many times, he doesn't care how much you give him. He's just looking for something to gauge your abilities with, so you need to be asking yourself that question, not him.
Hopefully Bloomberg doesn't mind my supererogatory interjection.
I have one question... How much time do we have for this?
Quote from: Bloomberg on 2012 Jul 20, 16:41:44
Submissions will be accepted until Saturday, July 28, at which time I will close the auditions, and I will announce the finalists soon afterward. If you are chosen, you will be expected to write a story with more specific criteria, which I will give you at the appropriate time.
I look forward to having my inbox flooded with applicants, and I wish you all the best of luck. I encourage everyone to have fun, try their hardest, and remember to proofread their entries.
I believe with my life experience and many RPs across the board I have a good chance of making the cut. Expect an interesting short story!
What kind of dedication would be needed if we got in(how many stories, how often, etc.)?

Well, that's a bit hard to say. If a team member doesn't have much time to put in, I can be fairly accommodating, but I do require my team members to work in order to keep their positions, and I have let people go in the past for not doing their share of the work. I can't give you an exact figure that I would hold anyone to, as certain pieces of writing take much longer to finish than others, and quality always comes first.
Good luck, applicants!
time to pick up my writing hands again :P
god i want to be a part of this. :D
I created an account just so I could say: THANK YOU. lol Definately gonna throw myself into it... It's actually 5 AM where I live right now and I've been up just writing away haha :D still have a lot of proof reading to do so... Imma get back to work... See y'all when the sun rises... Teehee :3
I suppose you could say that I have been in a comatose state waiting for applicants to open up again. :)
Best of luck to everyone.
I noticed that the minimum age for all applicants was not stated, so may I ask what it is?
OK... I'm going to do this! I think that I am going to re-write a particularly bad WIP that I had on Fimfiction. Wish me luck, everypony, and same to anypony else who tries out. May the best pony(ies) win! :3

Well... you see, I kind of don't exactly... have one. I see this as being purely a matter of skill, and although a very young applicant is somewhat less likely to have the set of skills I'm looking for, I know there are many exceptions to that, and I don't want to put down a hard number for that reason.
I'm 13 I write stories when i'm bored.I keep every single story I wrote in folders in my closet , and half of them are about ponies. Please this is pretty much the only thing I can do for the team.I love writing.
I cannot wait for the results!

I would also like to ask: 1) how often can we expect to be assigned a personal/group task?
2) how much time must we expect to dedicate to the writing team every week/day?
3) is it possible for us to take short breaks where we drop what we do for the writing team temporarily and focus on other proritised tasks
(exams, interviews etc.)?

Again, as much as I would like to say "four," these things have to be taken care of on a case-by-case basis. There are many different types of responsibilities on the writing team, including quests, descriptions, NPCs, books, and editing, and every one of the writers will end up with slightly different responsibilities, based on their strengths and areas of interest. Some of us love creating characters, and don't particularly care about the settings, and some of us are more passionate about lore and world-building and only write characters when it is absolutely required. If it is decided that we need more fiction books in the library, I be perfectly happy allowing someone a week and letting them churn out a novella, but if someone were to try to get by with one item description per week, obviously, that would be something else entirely. As for the time devoted, it is simply a matter of how long it takes everyone to get things done properly. Some can get by on talent without having to work at it much, and some have to metaphorically break their backs to keep up. The important thing is to know which category you fall under, and do whatever you have to do. Short breaks are perfectly fine, as we are a volunteer project, and I can't expect everyone to devote their entire lives to this project. However, if someone is frequently absent, I will be forced to ask myself if I couldn't perhaps find someone else of approximately equal skill who would be present on a much more consistent basis.

Thanks for the information. If I am in a position where someone is actually depending on me, then I can make
a lot of time to write. Also, would a time zone difference create too many problems for you? I live in Perth, Western Australia, and our time is inverted from American Eastern coast time(8 am here is 8 pm in New York, D.C, Miami etc.). I would probably be sending stories at about 5am east american time, but I am also a day ahead anyway.
Just sent my application in. Good luck everypony!

Time is luckily one of the things I have the most of! I am out of school now and am currently enrolled in an online collage course for a degree in English and English teaching. And my job as the manager of the local video game store is so easy all I ever do is script my games or type out my essays. So obviously there will be no problems there for me.

I shall put in an application, I don't expect to get a position. Not because of my writing, oh no! But because the auditions have come at a turning point in my life. I am horridly busy, at the moment, things will die down later . . . but I cannot say when.
I'd love to help out the LoE team . . . I've got a debt to repay, this pony community has given me some inspiration and some of the people here have helped deepen my character . . . but it isn't #1 on my list at the moment.
So, I will give you my piece and let you debate: "Do we need this guy or can we get along without him?"
Either way, I wish you ALL the best of skill and luck. I wish I could devote more effort but I just don't have any more room at the moment, for another full project.
hehe I think i started out a lil late to start writing my Story for this ^^ Well well, will see if i manage to do it in time :3 I hope best of luck to everyone and think it is incredible that so many ponies are interested in this ;)

I like you Blues-Music, you've got spunk. You don't want to fathom the possibility that you may not be accepted. I like that, whether you are accepted or not, I may have some room for you in Ironforge Entertainment if you are interested. Anyway, good luck my fellow ponies only two days until we know. ^-^

You can just make a new one.I did that , and I already have plenty of others.
Twilight Sparkles was dumped on the street as a child by her parents, because they didn't have enough money for everyone to be fed, this is the story of how she got back on her hooves and had a good life. Twilight: mom why can't I still be in the house living with you? I'm only ten years old! Twilight's mom: Twilight honey, we don't have enough money to feed everyone so we have to hope you survive on the streets of Ponyville, i'm so sorry my dear. Narrator: And so Twilight Sparkles had to wander Ponyville, begging for money and food. One day,a mysterious pony talked to Twilight. Twilight: can you please give me some money or food kind pony? Mysterious pony: follow me and I'll give you food and a place to stay. Twilight: okay then but what's your name? Mysterious pony: My name's Applejack what's yours? Twilight: my name's Twilight Sparkles, nice to meet you Applejack. Narrator: and so the new friends traveled to Apple Farm where Applejack gave Twilight some apples and let her stay in the barn for a few days. Applejack: I just notices you're a unicorn Twilight, ever think of going to Magic School? Twilight: No I never had the money Applejack. Applejack: I have some spare money I can get you to go there for a few years, Princess Celestia herself might even let you be her apprentice if you're good enough. Narrator: a few days later, Twilight was accepted into the magic school where she learned how to use her unicorn powers to help other ponies, then this happened. Twilight: is that Princess Celestia? Celestia: why yes I am and you can be my apprentice because you're the top of your class in magic, quite frankly I'm astounded by your skills Twilight Sparkles. Twilight: this is amazing I get to be Princess Celestia's apprentice just like Applejack thought I might! Narrator: and so Twilight got money and a job and eventually had a good life as Princess Celestia's apprentice.
Uhh...you're supposed to email your story to him. Not post it here.

Submitted! How many people will become finalists, out of curiosity? Or does that just depend on the number of entries you deem worthy for that honor?
Oh, and I'm curious to see what kind of entries other people are putting in. Would people be willing to post their entry material or is that a dumb request? :/

Just keep working at it bro, you can do it. And again, good luck everypony! :D
If anyone else needs a writer for their game and I am not accepted I will gladly help whoever else needs one! :D
Also only ONE MORE DAY people! We are almost at the point in time in which we know who one! One final good luck to everypony! :D :D :D
Technically he said he would announce the finalists shortly after the deadline, not on the day of the deadline :\
:P i know cool ideas for the game :] O: cool
Oh, what ever! I'll send the story I'm working on. x3 even if I know I wount get chosen.
you never know, be faithful in your abilities.
Yeah, what makes good writing is extremely subjective.

I'm going to send mine right now! ^-^
Got mine in just now, just in time! 23 hours and 26 minutes left to hand in... anyone who hasn't handed their application, good luck, hope you finish in time. Also, I stumbled across the post asking if anyone would show their applications. Well, I'm posting mine on Fimfiction if anyone's interested, under the name 'Stereoheart', but I will be posting bit by bit. If anyone wants to read the whole thing at once, I will give to whoever wants, but I require an Email address.

Sounds cool, I might just check it out!
Now to wait for the winner(s). Let's hope the wait is not too long ^-^ and good luck to all of us!
Would it be too much to ask for a list of Emails received? I know that quite a few people here are terrified that their story got lost in transit.

I second the idea of a list of emails.
We all know that there are people(including me) that really want to know if the E-mails got to the admins. If you didn't get an E-mail from us then you let us send it again or something(I have sent mine in a couple of times with updates......sorry about that admins :( )
Conclusion: List of Emails would make some people calm down, sending in 3-5 copies of your story each time with updates is bad for chances because it is like spam, and the ability to send in your email with the story with no worries if one finds out that the Email got lost in transit is a good way to make people chill.

Man, I've been waiting for this news all day. Good job everypony, I look foward to the second around. Also, I'm honored to be among such talented peers.
Congratulations to all the ponies chosen so far and good luck in the second round. :D
Congrats and good luck to everyone who got through to the second round! ^_^
While I didn't make the second round, it's great to finally get some closure. Everyone who got in, you are all probably very skilled writers, and hence deserve the position more than me. Good luck in round two, you all deserve it.
Good luck everyone who got into the second round!! :3 :3

And to everyone else, don't be discouraged. There will be many more chances for you in the future, whether that be at LoE or elsewhere.
Congrats everypony who made it this far, and good luck to all of you :')

They just auditioned for writers, and the auditions are over. Now it's just the second round for the remaining writers.
Congratulations to everyone who made it this far! Good luck to you all.

I wish you could too DD:
Yeah, I'm with Sneaks on this one. Oh well, like I said before, what makes good writing is so subjective that it's impossible to predict whether or not you'll make the cut for something like this.
Also, if anyone needs a very lighthearted G-PG writer for a project, I'd be happy to help too :D
Just send me a PM if that's the case for anyone.
Oh well, I gave it an honest go. Keep on truckin', I suppose. ^-^
Congratulations to all who made it in!
Didn't make it myself, but i wish the best of luck to everyone who did ^^ I'm so excited to see who will make the final cut ;)

Possibly your lack of capitalization.
Cheer up guys, not all hope is lost! The writers that made it to the second round were just better than you, it doesn't mean you guys were terrible.
Well, losing is part of life but never did it become a person's flaw if something is done to the fullest.
Goodluck for those who made it in. I'll be expecting not only a dashin' rpg game but something inspired by literary art. ^-^

Well there are definitely people better then me. I will admit it now: I, Sneaks, am not a perfect writer, not the best at structure, just learned what a brick of text is, I make a lot of flaws in capitalization and spelling(although I fix them eventually), and I have a lot of work to do. But I will not give in to failure.
Fight harder, fly farther is what I say.
Good luck to the one's in the second round! Know that I wish the best!
There's no such as a perfect writer. Again, it's all really subjective beyond basic stuff like spelling and grammar.

I'd probably not post it into this thread. You can however (if you wanted) post it under stories, or maybe on DeviantART or something. I'd wait until after the end of this whole auditions thing though. Just so nopony decides they want to do something they might regret ^-^
Honestly I'd love to read every submission that was made. I enjoy stories and it's fun to compare the styles of different authors to see which style you best like using and which ones you enjoy reading the most too.

That and the attitude. You can't expect to go into something with a "Who cares" attitude and gain anything from it. Your work will reflect your attitude, and if you don't care about a project, odds are it wont be worth anything. Take a second to just forget that pessimism and really work on (whatever it is you're doing). It's not a thing of luck, like the lottery, it's about actually putting forth the effort and striving to achieve. So none of that negative Nancy (Or Nelly if that's who you prefer) just get back out there and try again.
Yes, by the way, I just somewhat lectured you on the forums, and you know what?

Congrats to all the winners and good luck with round 2. Not being able to narrow it down to less than 20 submissions is a good thing. It shows that people actually want that writing position. Again congratulations and good luck, and may the best pony win! ^-^
And my second entry is out. Good luck everypony again.
[edit] Also if anyone wants to give it a read. The story I posted for the first round is in the stories section.
Done with the second round entry after proofreading like three times. That was fun to write, though I gotta say 2000 words is pretty darn short.
Best of luck to everyone in the second round.

Kinda wonder if the judges think The Tree Dude to be
for letting me in the finals in the first place. Haha, that would be so weird. Meh, if only if only... I like making people
(Insert evil laugh here)
Congraulations y'all! I hope you guys will have a awesome time on the team! :]
Hats off for the new writers! Go for it! lol lol :D :D :D
We throw our hats up in the air sometimes
Say a-eh-o

CONGRATULATIONS! To those four lucky ponies. While we would all like to see our own names on that list DD:, we know that you deserve it! Good job for all the hard work you put in! :D
Knew I shoulda gone for a more original story. Regardless, I came darn close and that was nice to see.
Great job to everyone and congratulations to the writers, I know you'll all do well. And huge thanks to the judges that took all that time and read all 20 of our stories!
Congratulations to all our new writers! Those were some impressive entries.
Congratulations, you four. You're all very talented writers. Good luck!
Congrats, guys :D
Congrats to the winners!
I figured I should have gone a lot closer to the word cap. I'm no goo with really short stories. But now I know for sure, so always something good came out of it.
Congratulations to all the winners! Now go write something epic!
Congrats to the new writers, glad to add you too the team

We have your submission, Amontillado.
Quick question.
Did you ever get my story? I am still wondering if I lost because you didn't get my email/gmail or if it was because I just wasn't good enough?
If it is not too much to ask please answer it for me.
P.s. Congrats to you four awesome writers! Hope you have fun working for such an awesome team!
Fancy usernames ^-^
Congratulations!
So I'm guessing we'll get an Email if we are going to be recruited when you guys decide to increase the writing staff?
Congratulations guys! Enjoy writing for the team, you deserve it! :D

I imagine they're going to go by scoring order. For instance, Sarah Meeker would be the next to be added, when/if they add more writers, as she had the next highest score. Or maybe they'll hold another round for us finalists, to see changes in writing technique and such. Nobody can know for sure, but my money would be the first.
Well, I just went back and read through my entry, I guess I got too cocky because there were loads of errors. Oh well, I tried. still I feel like a bit of an idiot. :c
HAY I was not here at all. And I know I know in no way I belong here but I want you to know congratulations to everyone for everything. o3o

What name were you entered under?
(If this makes you uncomfortable you can use PM)
Alright, as long as everyone is asking.....
did you guys get my submission? I used "Giggle Tail" in the middle of my real name for the signature on mine X3
To Everyone:
Im sure the Writers got everyone's emails (as long as you sent it to the right email) and they did take their time and read though each of them
there is no need to keep asking if your submission was received or not
im sure Killer doesnt want to answer everyone individually to say if their submission was received
Sorry, originally I wasn't going to ask for that very reason, but he didn't seem to mind, so.... >.<
i dont mind if a few people ask but we dont need everyone that submitted to ask the same question
if killer wants to answer all of them he is more than welcome to and I wont stop him
Agreed, just figured it was worth asking in case he didn't mind. Sorry if I annoyed him.
dont worry im sure he wont mind, im just trying to take a preemptive step
I apologize, I didnt mean to target you out (if that is what you felt)
Don't worry about it :)
Wow, so close! :o
Oh well, it was worth a shot. At least I'll be the first one called when they need a replacement.
Hopefully other writing opportunities will pop up soon. :3

Thank you. :) I'm not a lawyer, but I do write mystery novels in my spare time and I've learned a lot about law because of that. I'm glad you liked the story! :3
