Well, the higher the level of the enemy, normally they will give higher xp. However, you might see that they are not giving as much because that's probably your level is too low compared to the enemy. For example, if you fight the lvl50 dragons at lvl23, you'll get around 600xp. But the xp awarded increases with your level, when you are lvl45, it will give you around 1400xp. On the other hand, like lvl24 timberwolves, they give you around 300xp, but it will not increase beyond that when your level increases too high compared to them.
But other than that, the revamped xp curve is kind of ridiculous, it is 15 times more than before. Only the most determined and dedicated player will reach lvl50, or wait a few years later when the developers implement other ways to earn more xp outside of combat.

This normally happens when you receive a notifications before your game fully loads you in the game or specific area. For example, when you receive a trade request when you are still on the loading screen.

With the new update coming and all lvl50 characters bound to be kicked back to lvl23, I have thought to make a showcase of all my lvl50 characters, as a memorial of my hard work and also as a way to introduce myself. I have 6 accounts, 34 ponies (2 extra spaces for future purposes) and 30 of them are lvl50. As I can't log in them all at the same time, I have make sets for the characters. Sorry that I opted to have the GUI on because I would like to keep the "Level: 50" display. 
The Mane 6 Set
From left to right: Flutters Shy, Miss Rarity, Pink Pony, Princess Twilight, Silly Applejack, Dainbow Rash. Due to copyright reasons, I couldn't put in the original name so I have to use alternatives. I usually play Flutters Shy the most because she's my favorite mane 6.
The Pink Pony Set
Inspired by Pink Horse, these Pink Ponies are mischievous and usually appears together. Their hobbies include dancing, making candy rain and booping other ponies (Trust me, getting booped by 6 Pink Ponies at once is a once of a lifetime experience). These Pink Ponies are not created using the mirror pool, they have passed the point that they can duplicate by themselves. The pink-dressed Pinkie is the unofficial leader among them.
The Triple Pinkamena Set
With the Pink Ponies, comes the Pinkamenas. They consist of earth, unicorn and pegasus. Don't make them angry.
Marble Pie
Just the only one of the other Pie sisters I created, I would like to created the other sisters but I don't have enough character space, so I choose Marble.
The Princesses Set
From the left to right: Flurry Heart, Princess Cadance, Princess Celestia, Princess Luna, Princess Twilight. Too bad Shining Armor isn't in this set, he's not an alicorn.
The Fluttershy Family
From the left to right: Flutterbat, Little Flutters, Flutters Shy. Flutterbat is my first ever character created and one of the only two ponies that obtained the batpony costume. Little Flutters is the daughter for Flutters Shy and a bank pony to carry all the extra stuffs.
Misty Mint
The only "OC" I created. I am too lazy and don't have any creativity so I don't have a backstory for her nor I wanted to roleplay. She's the only other pony to have the batpony costume for me so far.
The NPC Set
From left to right: Capt Clean Whistle (Captain Clean Whistle), the Ponydale guard who keeps demanding for your rubies; Flannie (Flan), the sweet pony who works at the Paso Fino café in Cantermore, she likes to ride bikes and have ice cream; Astrial Charm (Astral Charm), a biological engineer who uses magic to make giant carrots and experiments bees with violin music
Top: Mercury, the timid pony who works at the Ponydale Hospital, she recently found out a non-changeling creature who claimed to be cosplaying as her.

From left to right: Cloudopolis Guard, Ponydale Guard, Cantermore Guard, Heartlands Guard. Despite the developers coded them to patrol in a specific area, these guards tend to break the game and run around Equestria. Well, that sums up all the 30 lvl50 ponies that I have. It took me more than 5 months to level them all. However, I don't think I have the same enthusiasm to level them again from lvl23 in the next update because the xp required is 15 times more than now. Anyways, thank you for taking your time reading this, hopefully you will meet one of my ponies in the game.

Haha, it's alright, I'm partially kidding. I enjoy combating and leveling in the Evershades. In fact, the total time I spent in the Evershades are probably even longer than other ponies spending their time idling in the Sugarcane Corner.
I just hope the lvl65 dragon can be defeatable in the next update. It is what I enjoyed the most in the past, running around them using the old transfusion.

I think the problem is you chose the wrong dialogue at the final conversation with Astral Charm. After settling with Wanda Percent, you return to Astral Charm to claim your reward and finish the quest, you MUST choose the first dialogue (which is "It sure is. So, what are you going to give me?") to get the dog egg. Other dialogue chosen will result in receiving only the carrots, and losing the dog egg.
And there is no other way to get the dog egg if you missed this, you have to create a new character and start over.

Problem 1: Talk to the ponies in the following order: Tonic - Chef Linguine - Marvell. I've done it without issues.
Problem 2: Those icons under the main skills are upgrades, they become available at lvl 10, 20, 30 etc to improve the skill, they are undraggable. Drag only the top icon.
Problem 3: I've heard that Birthday Wishes is quite buggy this version, I've completed it before without issues so I can't help you. But I advise you not to carry too many quests at once, do it one at a time.

I don't blame otherunicorn for being rude, it is understandable that some changes in updates and recent servers being unusually unstable can be frustrating. It is good to give feedback to the developers, but I think it is the word and tone used that lead to arguments, like a line in Jesus of Suburbia from Green Day:

2nd - Yeah, I agree I missed the /e faint feature, I hope one day the devs will bring it back, or at least add another emote like sleeping.
4th - The devs once mentioned that level 50 probably will not be the highest level possible in the future.
5th - I'm pretty sure the resets are connected to the preparation for the newest update, they added a lot of crafting items like food as drops from mobs. At the same time they are removing bugs, particularly the bugged marker for the Supplying the Hospital quest (which had occured since Christmas update). The marker won't pop up for new players now, but those who had it before still can't remove them yet, still waiting for the option from Old Quest Marker Fix.
Just be patient, I'm sure the crafting update is around the corner, just give them another month.
