Joy never even had a chance to issue a statement of surprise. "I guess I'll do that."

Solemnly and slowly, Joystick stood up and headed to Maple's room, opening and entering the door. He stood for a moment in the doorway before making his way to a chair and sitting down. Joystick cupped his head in his hooves and he openly announced his superstitions. "I'm so sorry, Maple. This was all my fault, and I didn't even try hard enough to stop it. This is all my fault. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have even went into that forest in the first place. I should have stopped you.

This isn't how it works. There's always, always some little out or some drastic measure. No matter how drastic. Okay, I don't know if you can even hear me, and I'm not sure if that would really matter in the first place, but I'm putting my plan into action, Maple.

I'm going to take it to that little rat, and I'm going to bring him here, and I'm going to make him fix you. I'm going to do it, one way or another. Why? I don't know. I might not ever. The faintest clue I have is that I feel responsible for all of this.

But I know one thing, Maple. You are making it out of this alive. Even if I have to strike a deal with Celestia herself, you are making it out of this alive."
Ending his small monologue, Joy stood up and stood in the doorway once more, hesitating before finally leaving.

He very quickly left the hospital, all but running down towards the beach in an attempt to quickly get to Rush, in order to describe his plan. He needed to do this, and do it fast. Maple didn't have that long, and Joystick had to use all the time he had wisely.
42
"That's true. I guess it depends on all of the variables, really." Joy responded, still not wanting to quite divulge his trade openly, while Marble was still awake, but maybe he would sprinkle hints later into the conversation. Maybe, otherwise, he would find some other opportunity.
43
((Shh))

"Is there any cooking spray, or grease, or butter or something here? We can use something like that to help get him out, hopefully." Joy tried to think of ideas to release the wolf, and that was the only feasible one he could come up with, aside from something like cutting Game out with the flap still around him for the rest of time, which, come to think of it, wasn't too feasible either.
44
"Oh. Oh yeah, I see what you mean. How did he even get stuck in there? What?" Joy took a few minutes to comprehend this situation, and just what was going through the wolf's head when he decided to take the course of action.

"Looks like a snug fit. How is that... nevermind. How can we possibly get him out of there?" Joystick wanted to be able to see the full extent of this wolf, and it being lodged in a door flap wouldn't help anything.
45
"Nice to meet you, I'm Joystick." Joy smiled back, comfortable with heading a bit further into the hall, now that he knew he wasn't intruding. He noticed the other ponies in the foyer, but opted to disregard them for the time-being.

"Poor wolf. Is he injured, or something?" Joy voiced his empathy. If only he knew.
46
"Oh, hi, this is the house that had rooms open, right?" Joy asked, wanting to confirm one last time that he was in the right place. He felt like it was, but he considered it rude to enter too deep into someone's home, saying you rented a room after mistaking it for the place you're actually staying. He preferred not to risk that.
47
"And there's no way to fix that, or, or at least postpone its effects? Maybe something that could just keep him alive until someone finds a solution?"

Joystick pleaded to the doctor for something that would just give Maple more time. He felt that he could find a solution, he wanted to find a cure, he needed to find a cure for Maple. There was no passing this up. Joy had taken some fairly drastic measures before to protect friends from harm, and this wouldn't be much different.

Of course, Joy tried to rationalize the feeling. He had known Maple for, what, two days? Almost every other time he'd taken a big risk for someone he had known them for a while.

He supposed that he felt this strange attachment because he truly felt as if all of Maple's recent problems were his fault. He told Maple to search the forest with him, he left Maple behind when Rush was able to dispel the hexes (although those were minor, Maple's was much more complex if Rand was to be believed.) He told Maple about his soul and caused him to end up like this.

Joy did truly figure that this predicament was his fault, and that was how he justified his willingness to risk his own life to save Maple's.

Joy decided to the affirmative, he would reveal his plan to Rush, and hopefully Rush would support it. Joy would need his help with it. After all, Rush was fairly integral to reducing the risk factor.

Risk factor of what? The risk of taking down the pony who had been the catalyst for all of these events. Rand. Joy would find him, and he would make him heal Maple. One way, or another.
48
((I don't think I can quite understand that wording, but it is late, too. Could you explain it again, please?))

Joy was barely able to supress a sigh of relief. "So someone who had to do it in order to be able to support themselves and others would rank higher than someone who violated laws just for fun? Fair and good."
49
"That's true. I was just thinking about Fillydelphia, home, the crazy shady characters around there. What's your opinion of people like them? Lawbreakers, criminals, thieves?"

That may have been too obvious. What if he condemns them, and figures me out anyway? I mean, tension is the last thing we need, but Raven is a cool guy, one I'd rather have as a friend than an enemy. Through this line of thinking, Joy kept on the same facial expression he had used while talking, just gazing inquisitively at Raven.
50
"Ah, yeah." The doctor's words snapped Joy back to reality from whatever daydream he was having, unexpectedly. "Do you, do you know what's wrong with him?"

He didn't know why that was what he asked. Joy could've asked if the doctor thought Maple would be okay, or if he was still even breathing, but he wanted to know if they knew the problem. Joy figured that he didn't really want the answer to the other questions. They might not be positive answers, after all.
51
"It is. Go on inside and get some rest, me and Raven are taking watch." Joy had already left the shed and sat down outside it, facing towards the forest.

Maybe I'll regale him with some of my tales of illegal adventure when everyone else is asleep. I think I'll have to lead into that. He does work with the kinda ponies that punish my quests, after all.

Yeah, I'll tell him, but I'll try and gauge his judgement of actions like my own, first.

NAME: Joystick

Race: Unicorn

Appearance:
Spoiler: show

Talent: Manipulating machinery, such as arcade machines or locks.

Personality/traits: Former professional thief from Fillydelphia, though he's not privy to this with strangers. He lies in a rather gray area when it comes to morality, not being above thievery and petty crime but not willing to mindlessly harass people. Joy isn't a fan of taking things from people he knows, either. Too personal, he would think. He, like most people would, likes to keep his skills secret from most others. He'd rather tell people that he's a technician, or a locksmith.

He's off duty on personal vacations, however, and he prefers not to get his hooves dirty when he's trying to get away from his work for a while.

))

Joystick finally arrived to the house. He had wanted a vacation for a while, and he figured that a trip like this would be good for his health. Let some stress off, and all. All he wanted to do was just unwind, hang out, and maybe make some new friends, the whole routine.

He knocked on the door, not willing to just barge in. He'd rather people know he was there before he went inside. Plus, it made a nice avenue for introductions. Someone would answer the door, he'd introduce himself, and hopefully the favor would be returned.

He waited,  adjusting his bag so the strap would sit more comfortably. For a second, he almost thought he heard a seemingly feline screech, but he brushed it off. I hope they do have a cat here, he thought. That way if I don't get along with anyone I could just pet the cat for hours on end. Any pet would do, really, as a good fallback. I'd like a cat or dog, though, the most.

He entertained himself with these thoughts, getting his hopes up as he waited for someone to answer the door.
53
"Alright," Joy said, cancelling the spell. "That's less taxing, for sure.

If you need, I'd be willing to take watch after you. Wouldn't be the first time I've stayed up."
Joy realized shortly before saying this that he didn't actually know if Raven slept or not. He decided to word the response carefully, to reflect this.
54
Before taking a position in the shoddy structure, Joy turned to the others and offered an idea.

"Should we set up a watch? So if something comes after us, one of us can wake all the others, and we'll be up and prepared."

He didn't know if another safety measure was necessary, but, as the saying goes, it better to be safe than sorry.
55
"Yeah. That would work out better." After stopping to reply to Rush, Joy continued on. He was half sprinting all the way to the hospital, going at a pace that was sure to render him out of breath.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Joy all but threw himself inside to the receptionist.

"There is something seriously wrong with my friend and I have no idea what it is. I need help."

"Calm down, sir. Could you please repeat yourself?" The receptionist was unable to respond to Joy, due to the quick pace of his words.

"My friend is hurt. He's not conscious. He needs help." Joy complied, speaking slowly, though you could hear a slight agitation in his voice, because of it.

"Alright, sir. We have a doctor available now, if you and your friend would take a seat, a nurse will take you to his room very shortly."

"Thank you." Joy took Maple to the lobby, sitting himself down after Maple. He was impatient, though he felt that he couldn't follow Maple to the room when the doctors came.

He wasn't sure if it was even allowed, but he had to stay in the lobby, in case something happened at the beach, and someone came to find him. Wasn't exactly the most calm environment, now especially.

A nurse soon arrived with a stretcher for Maple, after Joy explained that he couldn't come with the colt. She took him to the doctor's room while Joy stayed seated, losing himself in thought. Most of these were over Maple's well being, but he was thinking all together.

((Gonna leave you the Doc if you want them, Maple. If not, I'll pick them up, but I figure it's not fair to give a diagnosis to someone else's character without knowledge of the situation. Your call, anyway.))

"Yeah, pretty feeble material for a defensive structure. We'd need something you can't just break with a heavy rock." Joy agreed with Raven and Cheveyo, and as could've been gathered from his not so subtle opinions, disagreed with Zealous.

Nah. It is assumed nobody lives on the island, and nobody knows about the island at all.

So, sorry. No Daring Do. Also wouldn't plan to add canon characters anyways, so second nail in that coffin.

I think he meant this character he's been sitting on, not Daring Do.

"Finally. We need to get Maple to a hospital." Almost as soon as the words left his mouth, he was headed towards the road to Ponyville, only quickly looking to see if Rush was following.

He hoped the poor colt would be okay. It seemed that ever since he had met Maple, they had found trouble as soon as they set a hoof in the Everfree. Joy doubted he would be too angry if he never went back into that forest, right now. At least until the Rand debacle was solved.
60
"It wouldn't be the first crazy thing about this island." Joy remarked, before moving to the latter half of Cheveyo's statement.

"And yeah, wouldn't be a bad thing to net ourselves some security. Who knows what could be out there? I'm sure there's at least one thing that isn't friendly in the expanses." He agreed. The last thing the group needed was to be attacked with no method of protection.
