Hello there and welcome to the Legends of Equestria forums! I hope you have fun here! If you have any questions, feel free to ask!  :D

Well, I was introduced when a friend of mine told me about a really great show, and she wanted me to watch it with her, so I did. I thought the characters were really realistic, and the score was well-produced. I've loved the show ever since!  0:)

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a great time with the open server weekend!
I'm sure you all saw our beautiful new pony models. The 3D modeler responsible for these models has always been SteveLynx. He told me that he followed these 6 simple steps to create the models:

Quote from: SteveLynx

  • Checking pics from the show for reference

  • Trying to match those with the view-angles of different reference-pics

  • Trying to copy those in 3D

  • Checking with the team

  • Applying wished changes

  • Repeat step 4-5 until step 4 doesn't have anything negative to report anymore.

Let's look at the development of the pony models so far. First, here's the front part of the pony!

As the model evolves, the face becomes more and more rounded and ears begin to perk up more. The muzzle also becomes more well-defined with the newer versions. SteveLynx's work on the muzzle and the ears can be seen much more clearly in profile view.

We also notice that the shape of the body has changed. The first 3 models have a very arched back and the fourth doesn't arch at all. The most recent model comes with a nice balance between the two!

Lastly, let's look at a 3/4 view. Here we can see the development of the head itself. The first few models have a very large, flat forehead and as the models progress we see that the head becomes more rounded.

Quote from: SteveLynxThe most difficult part of the pony was the head, since there's no real connection between side- and front-view and since the ponies are shadeless there's not even fake-3d you could use as reference

SteveLynx has done some amazing work on these models, and he deserves loads of praise. He plans to continue his 3D modeling work with Legends of Equestria and aspires to one day make a perfect 3D pony model that can be used by everyone. If you ever see SteveLynx on the forums, don't forget to tell him that he's awesome!

Thank you to all of our writers who applied to help make Legends of Equestria a reality!

We're moving into the second round of writing auditions right now, so make sure to check your inbox if you've applied. This also means that we won't be taking submissions for the writing team from any new applicants as of today, but the other departments listed in the hiring announcement are still seeking help, so be sure to let them know if you think you've got what it takes.

Congratulations to our finalists, and good luck in the second round!

Greetings, everypony! While I was wandering around behind the scenes, I noticed that Legends of Equestria needs more team members to make this game the best that it can be. After all, it takes a large team to work on a project as grand as Legends of Equestria! If your skills fit what we're looking for, go ahead and send us an application. When you apply, we will need to see examples of what you can do, so don't be afraid to show off your talent!

We're looking for talented individuals with skills in these areas:

3D Modelers and Animators - 3D team
To apply for the 3D team, please email [email protected] with links to examples of your skills. Any additional unrelated, high quality designs you have done helps too. Applicants must have working knowledge of 3D modeling and/or animating and be willing to learn, design critically, and give and take critique. It is preferred that applicants have a specialty in organic modeling, 3D animation and rigging, terraforming, or any combination thereof. Please include how much time you are able to devote to Legends of Equestria, as well as a list of programs that you use.

Texture Artists - 2D team
To apply for the 2D team, please email [email protected] and [email protected] with a link to an online portfolio containing examples of your skills. The 2D team leads would like to see plenty of examples of environmental art or textured 3D art, rather than 2D character work or fan art. Applicants must understand the basics of color theory, be able to mimic the art style of the environments and buildings in My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and be able to create vector graphics. Please state how much time you are able to devote to Legends of Equestria, and remember that you will be expected to complete at least one texture per week. Access to programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or Flash is not necessary but would be very beneficial.

Concept Artists
To apply for the concept art team, please email [email protected] with a link to an online portfolio containing examples of your drawing skill. Although the team is looking for individuals who are comfortable with drawing characters, creatures, and architecture in the style of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, we would like for your portfolio to contain something other than My Little Pony fanart. Your email should also include your Skype username, the amount of time you are able to devote to the project, and your strengths and weaknesses that are relevant to the position. Please keep in mind that the concept art team is hiring on a rolling basis, so you can apply at any time.

Writers
Applicants for the writing department must submit one or more examples of their writing to [email protected]. Creative prose is preferred, but not completely necessary.
All applications must be submitted via email with a link to a Google Doc in the application. Your name must also be included. Any applicants who are copying from an outside source such as Microsoft Word must paste the text directly into Google Docs rather than uploading a file. They must also be visible to the parties which will judge entries. Submissions which require a download or do not have proper permissions will be ignored. Examples must be at least one page in length and cannot have been edited by any outside party. Experience is not necessary, but any applicants capable of listing qualifications should do so. After applicants have been reviewed, the most favorable will receive a prompt, at which point they will have one week to submit a story that falls within the guidelines of this prompt. After these have been judged, the new writers will be announced.

Designers
To apply for the design team, please email [email protected] with examples of design materials, as well as how much time you are able to devote to the project. Prefered examples are design documents which focus on gameplay mechanics, systems, and the equations and numbers which make those systems tick. Potential design team members should be able to contribute to discussions about ability trees, as well as independently write complex design documents which focus on attribute balance and gameplay integration. Potential design team members with large scale map layout abilities will also be considered.

Programmers
Potential programmers should be proficient in C# and the use of code to design working mechanics applicable to a 3D MMO environment. Experience and integration in Unity 3D is extremely helpful. To apply please send relevant examples of creative code design and a list of software you use/know to [email protected].

Only the applicants that the respective team leader is interested in will receive response emails.

Artist Showcases / June Artist Showcase
2013 Jun 17, 00:07:28
Hello everyone! It's nice to see you all again. Today, I am going to show you some new art from the development team. They have all been working hard to make Legends of Equestria a fun and unique experience for all of you, and I'm really excited to show you some of the progress they've made!

I know that Bloomberg has been covering these artist showcases up until now, but he is very busy working on other parts of Legends of Equestria. Since I love showing and teaching people new things, I was very excited to be given this opportunity, so I'll be bringing you the showcases from now on. So, Bloomberg, if you're reading this, thanks for all of your hard work up to this point!

This month's showcase will be showing off the brand new public Canterlot library, which has had many hours of work put into it by some of our talented artists. Let's start with when the library was only just an idea and a sketch.

This is the earliest sketch of the Public Canterlot Library. Since this building has never appeared in the show, our artists had to come up with something new and exciting. Concept artist Nick Hydock used towers, windows, and other building components seen all over Canterlot to design a building in Canterlot's style. He also drew some inspiration from his own hometown. Here is what he had to say:

Quote from: Nick Hydock"I come from an old town in Pennsylvania, and I liked basing some of my design for buildings off of the classic architecture around here a lot of the buildings have a more colonial style to them, which doesn't exactly fit in Canterlot. However, it does work for some things, such as government buildings or offices."

After the initial designs were completed, our wonderful people over at the 3D department took over. Below you can see the work done by 3D modeler Ryan Scanlon. After receiving the sketch, he was able to form the first 3D model of the library, with two ponies in the doorway for scale. Here are Ryan's thoughts on this building, which was his first with Legends of Equestria!

Quote from: Ryan ScanlonThis one was actually pretty straight forward.  It did come with that fun little book statue side project though and I really liked that, I prefer modeling props over buildings. This building doesn't have a lot of complex geometry, its basically a rectangle with things attached to it, which is frankly what most buildings in video games are. Things with more complex shapes are always more of a challenge to model and to layout the UVs [texture maps] for. Prop items for the most part have lots of smaller complex parts to them and thats what makes them more fun.

Once all the 3D modeling is complete, it's time for the 2D artists to come in and add texture and color. For this particular work, 2D co-lead Vector/AirBrush determined the colors and created the texture. He worked within Canterlot's overall color scheme to help the building fit the style of the city. The facades of most buildings in Canterlot tend to be in lighter shades, and to that the library is no exception. Vector/Airbrush has spent considerable time working on textures for Canterlot buildings. He describes Canterlot's distinct style as such:

Quote from: Vector/AirbrushAll the buildings have off-white colored walls, and the roofs usually either have a swirl, stripe, or checkerboard pattern. I studied buildings that we have already seen in the show to decide some of the texture choices. Other patterns were drawn from the concept artist's original vision of the model's texture. Color choices were drawn from studying the color palette in various screenshots. Canterlot primarily uses blue, white, purple, and gold for most of its color.

After the artists have put it all together, we have a finished building. Below, you can see the Canterlot library in its completed state, which has now been placed inside the game!  Check it out!

The Canterlot library is just one of the many places you'll be able to visit in Legends of Equestria when it gets released, but there are still going to be many fun and exciting adventures to go on both in and around the library. The beautiful artwork shown here is also going to be a large contribution to making an immersive and enjoyable experience for all of you. Don't forget to look for the Canterlot public library during next month's open weekend! I might even see you there myself. ;)

Until then, thank you all for coming, and I hope you'll come back to see next month's artist showcase as well!

Just curious: if we still have the files from the pre-Alpha event (I'll admit, I didn't bother removing them), does that mean we won't have to download again and will just have to download a patch or something? Or will it have to be a completely fresh (re)install?

You'll need to get our new version in order to get all the latest updates and features!

Quote from: KirbyFluttershy on 2013 Jun 07, 13:41:03
Well that only happens when you deleted the game for more space in the hard drive reasons. I have to re-install it as well due to another MMORPG that i'm playing.

The question i'd like to ask was, will our characters stay intact or do we still have the characters within account? (If you guys what I mean)

No, I'm sorry, all characters will be wiped. You'll need to create new characters.

Quote from: Dark_Twilight on 2013 Jun 07, 14:39:12
@Tekner

Will there be a "bug report" subforum or the game is still in too early stage for that?

We will, in fact, have a Bug Report subforum.

Quote from: KirbyFluttershy on 2013 Jun 07, 15:25:12
So i'm guessing that when the last stress-test has ended, our characters will be deleted and then we have to remake the characters this time am i right?

Yes, this will most likely be the case.

Quote from: LostSanity on 2013 Jun 07, 18:34:51
Is this a "con-only" thing or will a download be available via the site like last time?

This will be available for everyone just like last time!

Introductions Archive / Hello, everypony!

My name is Ellowee, and I'm going to be guiding new players though Legends of Equestria, as well as handling some press releases and public announcements. I'm really excited to be here with you all! I've already made a post in the team biography section, but I wanted to put something here as well, so I can talk to you all personally and give you a chance to respond. I hope we can all become good friends.

Team Biographies / Ellowee

Hello, everyone! It's a pleasure to meet you all!

My name is Ellowee, and I've been given the extreme honor of guiding you, the players, though the magical world of Equestria! In addition to showing you how to use some key functions of the game, including system menus and interfaces, I'll also be handling many of Legends of Equestria's public statements from here on out, so I'll probably be hearing from a lot of you in the near future. Personally, I can't wait!

Let me tell you a little about myself. I'm an Earth Pony, and I was born in Ponydale. When I was a filly, I always liked to help the people around me by showing them how to do things and find places. I had always wanted to be a teacher. When my cutie mark showed up, I wasn't entirely sure what it meant. It didn't look like the kind of cutie marks I'd seen on any other teachers growing up. In fact, it looked more like the kind of cutie mark I had seen on writers than anything else, and I always was a pretty good writer, but I knew that teaching was my special talent. When I finally saw Legends of Equestria hiring, I knew I was destined to help them out. Working as a guide to new players allowed me to teach people through writing, and handling press releases let me teach people the things they wanted to know about this exciting new project! And that's where I am right now. My favorite flavor of ice cream is butterscotch ripple, and my favorite pasta is angel hair spaghetti.
