Technically it's implied both in the games and the anime that Pokemon are generally loyal to trainers who are able to catch them......though admittedly that in itself is a little confusing as to how it works.

The fact that Red is great in the game and, especially, the manga, and yet Ash, who's based on him, is so terrible.

Technically it's implied both in the games and the anime that Pokemon are generally loyal to trainers who are able to catch them......though admittedly that in itself is a little confusing as to how it works.

It likely depends on the trainer some Pokemon don't like their trainers if I recall in the games and anime Pikachu hated ash at first, of course it also brings up the whole issue of why a Pokemon that loves it's trainer would disobey in the games just because you don't have a badge.
