THE MONTH OF FRIGHTS: Scootaloo's Nightmare Night Events!

Hey guys, it's me, Scootaloo! As you can see up there, this year, I will be hosting some events for Nightmare Night! And I guess you wonder why I am doing this, right? Well, there's a little story about this.....
So, a while ago, Apple Bloom and me were sitting in the clubhouse and we talked about Nightmare Night. You know, what costumes we're going to wear, where to get the best candies and all that. Then Apple Bloom suddenly remembered how we went into the Everfree Forest and encountered a cockatrice in the night Fluttershy was foalsitting us for the first time. And when she called me a chicken..... You know, the word that 's following me since then and that ponies have chosen as a nickname for me after Apple Bloom told a few ponies about it? Yeah, that night.....
So, she laughed and began to tease me, asking if I'm still a chicken..... Of course I (after making her face kiss a pillow) reminded her on it that I wasn't scared of the spooky story she told when we met up with Lilymoon in her home right before the whole mess with the Olden Pony started, because bringing a bogle back into the Everfree Forest and facing off against a timberwolf let me see the real horrors and made me become more brave!
But she didn't listen, kept teasing me and said I have to really prove that I finally stopped being scared of spooky stories, with a really smug face..... Which was just some teasing among friends, of course, we do that all the time, Sweetie Belle too. So, don't worry!
But, it gave me an idea..... Even though Apple Bloom was just joking, there are still a lot of ponies calling me a chicken, because not many heard about what we did with the bogle and the timberwolf and the Olden Pony and because we have to keep the events surrounding Auntie Eclipse a secret.
And, you know, being called that always stings a bit, because..... *looks at her wings* Flightless bird jokes aren't really cool if you are a bad flyer.
A-Anyway, it's time to get rid of this nickname! And to do that, I have decided to do what Apple Bloom suggested, by hosting some awesome and really scary events for this year's Nightmare Night!
And here, I'm going to tell you all about these events! Just look below to find all the information you need!

And what's better to prove to be a brave filly than.....

Horror Campouts on the Heartlands Graveyard and on Pumpkin Pie's Pumpkin Patch

For this, we are going to set up camp in the middle of the graveyard in the Heartlands and on Pumpkin Pie's pumpkin farm! All ponies who attend need to bring their own sleeping bags and snacks (I might have a few to spare for ponies who forgot theirs, but don't count on it!) and you have to stay there for the entire night..... If you are brave enough.

The first campout will happen on the pumpkin farm, where we will gather between the pumpkins right on the field, with generous permission by Pumpkin Pie! The pumpkin field has a dark and scary history, if certain stories told by other ponies are believed, and not all pumpkins might really be pumpkins..... So watch out and don't turn around if something's whispering to you.

The second campout will happen on the graveyard in the Heartlands and there, we will gather directly between the graves in the pavillon in the middle of the graveyard!
The graveyard is said to be haunted by the ghosts of restless pets whose owners did not care about them well enough..... In dark, foggy nights, you can hear the sounds of these animals when they wail about their misery..... And do not try to fly there, there is something dark on the graveyard that does not like this.

At both campouts, everypony is welcome to contribute as we tell each other the scariest stories we know. And to make things extra spooky, we are going to play a Nightmare Night edition of "Truth or Dare".
Think of horrifying dares that make everypony's blood freeze in their veins and of questions that bring out the most gruesome truths and darkest secrets about your fellow ponies before you come!
Choose wisely, because ponies who refuse to tell the truth or are too scared to go through with their dares, there will be met with even scarier punishments.....
If you are brave enough to come, here are the dates and times of the campouts:

Pumpkin Patch Horror Campout: October 19th, at 8 PM EDT

Heartlands Graveyard Horror Campout: October 26th, at 8 PM EDT

And after these campouts, we're getting closer to Nightmare Night, which we will celebrate with

Trick or Treat in Ponyville

For all foals who are too afraid to camp at some of Equestria's spookiest places and want to have something less scary (and for the real chickens), I have organized a "Trick or Treat" event in Ponyville!
Dress up scary for Nightmare Night, go from house to house in Ponyville, yell "Nightmare Night, what a fright, give us something sweet to bite!" and collect treats from your neighbors! All of Ponyville is fair game for this event, so roam free wherever you want..... But watch out, because there will still be some spooky surprises! It's Nightmare Night, you can't escape the frights!
Only foals are allowed for this event! If you are an adult pony and still want to participate, ask Princess Twilight for an age spell or get a youth potion from Zecora to make yourself young again!

But this only goes for the ponies who collect candies. If you are an adult and want to help with giving out candies or scaring the attending foals, I still search for volunteers who help making it the sweetest and spookiest night ever! Just leave a comment here or send me a letter if you want to help, so we can discuss all the details!
The "Trick or Treat" event will happen on October 31st, at 7 PM EDT. Bring your spookiest costumes and make it a night nopony will ever forget!

And this, fillies and gentlecolts, is all. If you want to have a good, spooky time or just want to see that this filly can handle the frights, come to the event of your choice. It's Nightmare Night and the shadows wait for you!

@Cuppycakes

I don't know what kind of official events for Nightmare Night will be done in the game this year. But last year, there was a quest you needed to go through to get the batpony costume and Ensemble had several other Nightmare Night costumes to sell, which he is still selling ever since.
Also, the graveyard in the Heartlands got added to the game very shortly before Nightmare Night, which was not intended as a part of a Nightmare Night event and more of a coincidence, but it fitted the mood well.
I think they will bring the batpony costume back, simply because there's no real reason not to and it's very popular among players, but other than that, I don't know whether or not anything new is planned for Nightmare Night.
There could be something coming, though, so keep your eyes open.
The dev team does a good job at seasonal events, so I would be surprised if there aren't going to be a few spooky surprises. 0:)

And for player-organized events, I am preparing a few Nightmare Night events for this year. Some of it is a bit shaky, because finding volunteers at rather short notice that I need for some of them isn't easy. But I do have a few ponies who said they would help me out and a few of the events also require only little preparing on my part. So there's definitely something going to happen from me, be prepared! :luna:
I also heard that some other folks might be planning something for Nightmare Night, which has not yet been announced either, but I suppose it will eventually.
I am going to announce my events very soon.

I was going to not say anything about this open letter, because my own relationship with the LoE dev team is currently in a very bad state, for numerous reasons (which I can't disclose, so please don't ask).
But I always communicated how much LoE means to me, how much I love it and how much I care for its well-being, which includes the community as the community IS LoE, and not saying something out of fear to make matters worse for myself would make me a hypocrite.
So, I'm saying here that I support each of the points in this letter. Especially the last one about privacy.

I didn't sign this letter, for the reasons stated, but consider this post a signature in spirit.

Quote from: Night Striker on 2018 Aug 18, 19:04:12No, they haven't, they did something else entirely as Puppy pointed out. The meaning of "level cap" is the maximum level a player can attain on a character. If the level cap was truly at 20, it shouldn't be possible to level up past 20 but LoE still has the level cap at 50 for no apparent reason.

I understand what you want to say, but this is a minor technicality. Whether they make it entirely impossible to level higher than 20 or just give you so little exp. after you reached that level that it's barely possible to level up further, comes down to the same in the end:

20 is, as of now, the intended max. level for the current regions and as high as it is recommended to level up right now.

Of course they could go and make it completely impossible to get higher than 20 in another update, but even if they would do that, there wouldn't be that much difference then. I think by simply making it so hard to level up higher than 20 that's it's a huge chore to do that, this already sends a clear enough signal of where the current level cap is.
A minor change like this, to make it entirely impossible to get higher, that just doesn't sound necessary if you already get so little exp. at Level 20 anyway.
Maybe they will do that one day, but fixing this just for logic's sake? There are more important things to take care of first, such as adding further content and fixing bugs.

Of course, if you want to give yourself the challenge to level up higher and even to 50, then you are free to do that. Players of various video games do things in games that weren't intended or envisioned by the devs all the time, after all.
But since LoE is not designed for this anymore now and only meant to get you up to 20 so far, they also don't have to offer an easier way of reaching Level 50 again now, just because some players decide to play the game in their own, but unintended, way.
It's how the game works now. And I already detailed above why a level cap like that makes the game last longer and is therefore more beneficial, than simply allowing the player to reach Level 50 (easily) as it used to be until the newest update, so I can't add anything to this anymore.

@Night Striker

I'm sorry, but I can't follow your latest post..... They already did what you suggested there. They introduced a level cap already, it's 20 now. That's why you have such a hard time levelling up higher than that: You are not supposed to yet.
Just like Vanilla WoW let you go up to Level 30 (I think), Vanilla LoE lets you now get up to Level 20.
Further updates will increase that level cap then, just like WoW increased its level cap with new expansions. They're doing exactly what you said:

Quote2. Or they could keep the new xp curve and balance and introduced a lower level cap, then slowly increase that cap back to 50 as more content gets implemented.

It's fairly easy to see what they are going for here. I'm having a hard time seeing what your issue with the exp. system is..... :s Just give them time.

@Sir Dead Puppy

QuoteI would love for them to post new areas with new monsters but this is a play for free fan made game, and they do amazing work for what they got but to think this is going to be like WoW with million dollar budgets and a giant team of paid programmers, releasing giant updates every year is a pie in the sky dream.

I don't know how massive the updates for WoW are, because I never really played that game, but I also didn't say that they necessarily have to make huge updates exactly once a year. Some stuff takes longer and that's fine. All I want is that they continue for years to come. I just had a bird singing it to me that the team of "My Little Investigations" gave up and will not release Case 2 and that they have cancelled development. :( I just want the LoE team to not give up, no matter how long they need for updates.
With that said, I wouldn't put it past them to have one big update each year either..... I have seen how fast and in what little timeframe they implemented Cloudsdale (January 2014), the from scratch re-designed Everfree Forest (January 2014), the Heartlands (August 2014), the re-structured Ponyville (January 2015) and the Crystal Empire (January 2015). Two new regions and one re-structured region in only one year of development after they already released a new region and a completely re-designed another one. That's fast for a free game made by volunteers.
Not to mention the Nightmare Night update, the Hearth's Warming Eve update, the Winter Wrap Up update and now the Festival of Lights and Crafting update and all the things they added..... Especially the recent one. Four big updates in less than a year of Open Beta!
The dev team of LoE works fast and efficient and they are the most motivated, most dedicated and most organized and professional developer team I've ever come across in the fandom. The fact that LoE is the only major MLP: FiM fan-game project that is still going and that survived all these years since 2012 and just keeps kicking and growing, while other major pony game projects died around it, speaks for itself.
I would not put it past them to have one large update each year, they have what it takes, that's for sure.
But even if updates take longer than that, I won't mind. I just want LoE to last. This year, next year, after the end of G4 and far into G5..... If it stays with us, I don't mind a longer development for new updates.
It's the only real and accurate Equestria simulation we have, so if it just sticks around, I will be satisfied and happy.<3
26
Only if I can marry Marshmallow Cream too then. <3 It's either everyone's waifu or none. =P
27
What you describe here is only one way to do it. Implementing new areas with new monsters that have higher levels is something that is better, because it means the game can develop slowly and that we will have much more of it in the end, as we would have if you could get to Level 50 right now.
It's like with WoW, where every new update or add-on brings new areas to explore, new monsters to defeat and a new maximum level to reach.
Doing so means that there will be more to explore and to discover. Technically, the development of the game could continue forever that way, as long as there are ideas to expand the world.
That WoW does it so is the reason why it can grow and deliver new challenges, adventures and stories for more than ten years now and I wouldn't mind if "Legends of Equestria" will also last that long because of doing it the same way.
You should start seeing the good sides of this system and appreciate it. It's going to pay off a lot in the future.

And for the monster levels, as I said already, the levels of the monsters in the currently available regions will probably get lowered in a future update, to be fitting to the max level the players can reach right now.

This is something that is already explained in the news about the changed xp curve already. From my own little experience with MMORPGs prior to LoE, I know that MMOs have areas in which you can only get up to a certain level, before you have to move on to a different area with stronger monsters in order to level even higher. Which is basically the norm for RPGs anyway, different areas = stronger monsters.
That's very much the norm for RPGs and like this for decades.
Now, with LoE, it is like this that the current regions that are available in the game are only designed to bring you to Level 20 (+ a few more levels, perhaps).
The regions that are designed to bring you to even higher levels, are not implemented yet. Right now, you can't get higher than Level 20+, because the monsters are simply not strong enough. All you could do if you want to forcefully level-up right now, is to just keep grinding and level-up further with that little amount of exp. you get, but that would mean you keep grinding for ages.
Which, as I said, the current regions are not designed for, so it's not recommended to attempt that gargantuan task.
The only thing that sounds a little odd to me is that there are still monsters in Everfree that have Level 50, a much higher level than you can reasonably have right now. But I assume this will get balanced eventually, too, and the monsters in the current regions will have a much lower max. level.
But other than that, all of this has been explained already. You are simply not supposed to level up that high anymore, now that the exp. curve is re-balanced and works as intended:

QuoteFor context, the areas currently available in the Open Access Release, in their intended final state, is expected to be enough to guide the player through the first 20 or so levels of their character's progression, when compared to the full scope of the game.

You're welcome!^-^ It's a solution that many don't know yet, so I try to provide it every time it comes up. I'm happy you can play now! 0:)

You need to close the game and then delete the "Legends of Equestria" folder in C:\Users\Username\AppData\LocalLow\LoE. Then restart your game and it will work again. You only need to adjust the size of the chat and re-arrange the buttons in your hotbar again, as they get reset when this folder is deleted.

Quote from: Fluttershy Cloud on 2018 Aug 09, 12:25:29Hehe, just 30, not 39.

 o.O

The pictures show 39 ponies.
32
Wow, that's an impressive collection of ponies! O: I didn't know all of these ponies are created by you! 39 ponies in total, wow, that is serious dedication!

And, by the way, you don't have to be worried about not leveling up to 50 again. Once the update rolls in, the currently available areas of the game are only meant to get your pony to Level 20 anyway. All areas above that level cap have yet to be added to the game.

Quote from: GoldenSky! on 2018 Jul 28, 20:36:19These were amazing, thanks so much for sharing!! I had to miss the final event and the Closing Ceremonies, so I'm glad someone captured them so well!

Maybe it's good you weren't there. Because there was a casualty during the dragon attack, Festive Cheer, Holiday Cheer's daughter, did not survive it.....
34
No, it's not too late. You can still join a team. Each team has a member cap of 20 now and I think Team Cloudsdale (my team) is now full. But there is still Team Ponyville that has only 8 members right now.
You can ask Sir Dead Puppy, the captain of Team Cloudsdale, or Sunny Skies, the co-captain, if there's a spot open in the team.
But I would recommend joining either Team Crystal Empire (they have only four members) or Team Ponyville, whose team captain is Festive Cheer. Those two teams are lower on members right now.
35
This promo picture looks wonderful, you outdid yourself there, Gloomy Feathers! I put this on Derpibooru for last-minute advertisement.^^
And now, time for the Games! I will join you any moment! 0:)
36
Those pictures look awesome! I wish I would have been there..... Now I feel even more bad for making myself unable to come to this photoshoot. ;_;
37
Scootaloo would like to join! There are a lot of pegasi in the team already, but participating for her hometown would mean a lot to her! <3
38
Ok, the decision has been made..... Scoots will participate in the Heartlands Relay Race, the Heartlands Cross-Country Race and, of course, the Flight Race! 0:)
And she hopes to still get a place in the Cloudsdale team, even though she has to be late for the sign-ups.

The Grand Galloping Gala was an event organized by players, not an official update for the game. But it amazed me that you thought it was an official event, this really shows what a grand success it was and how much we can live up the game between updates with awesome and exciting, player-organized events. :D

Welcome back! Just yesterday I missed your updates here!
