Just download the x86 version of the game.
This bug is specific to the x64-bit version.

I assume you downloaded the Linux version on a Windows machine?
Try downloading the Windows version instead, which has an actual executable for you to run.  ^-^
(If you're actually running Linux, just mark the .x86 file as executable in its properties.)

Firstly, you maaaay wish to try poking around the forums first to see if anyone else has made posts on the same issue.
Luckily enough, it's not just you. Many players are getting this, and for the foreseeable next few hours, it may continue.
If everypony's coming home for the weekend to get on, perhaps the servers are being flooded.
My advice: keep checking back every 30min-1hour, seeing if it clears up.  ^-^
