It's not really much to do with fire, it's just a fiery design for his mane. He's based off the aspects of a star thus giving the name Starfly, which comes from my feline OC he was based off as well. If you look at a star, [Not the sun in real life as that would damage your eyes obviously ] it's constantly burning masses of hydrogen into helium giving off a massive amount of heat energy which also gives it a fiery look so that's why his mane looks like so. Starfly also has no powers/supernatural abilities as being a pegasus is enough with the ability to fly so yes, he can catch on fire spontaneously.
