Original Characters / A New OC: Sveta
2014 Jul 21, 21:49:53
Name: Sveta Therque
Nickname: Sveta, or Svet
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Species: Gryphon
Appearance: The low sweeping nature of his brow seem to be continually tousled, as it seems the soft eggshell colored feathers never seem to rest in a single position for too long from the fickle mind of their owner. The lower ruffles behind the crest seem to have been spared this maltreatment, and lie straight and flowing in thanks. His beak seems slightly taller than the norm, a deep yellow, that almost seems a faint orange tint in direct light. The talons, well, more aptly described as claws as they have been filed down to the point of roundness, maintain this interesting color, providing an interesting accent to the smooth caramel colored coat that takes its presence throughout the rest of the body. The light tuft of deep chocolate fur at the tip of his tail seems to always be  slightly ruffled, much like his brow.
Eyes: The color when a setting sun lists upon a deep evergreen, a pale green with only the faintest afterthought of yellowed flecks
Cutie Mark: N/A
Special Talent: Cartography
Personality: Out there seems to be the best way to describe him. His head seems to always be in the clouds, figuratively and literally. Calm, and friendly, he seems always a little sad when people shy away from him. Civil to a flaw, he seems a might aloof, but certainly a interesting pon Gryphon.
Speech Color: Well, hi?
Home/Residence: Slightly south of Vanhoover, near Smokey Mountain was where he was raised, but he now has a small apartment in Cloudsdale
Occupation: Jet Stream Air Pattern Director, Second Division Captain
Likes: Clouds, The Sky, Air flow, Sleep, Happy Ponies, Smooth Jazz, Old Ponies, Small Buildings, and Pasta, Oh My Gosh Pasta
Dislikes: Loud Anything, Rock and Roll, Arrogance, Mumbling, Lying

Bio:     (Note: This will not be my usual quality of bio. Yet)
Sveta was raised in a very different circumstance than most ponies. Or Gryphons for that matter. His mother, being a weather maintenance gryphon constantly brought him to the weather facility where she taught him much of her craft. While most of the pegisi kept them at "at arms' length,  Sveta rarely noticed. With his father being a pegasus sales pony, when they went  to town he often stopped to talk with many of the passerby ponies. Despite them often answering his father with simple terse sentences, they never failed to answer him. Sveta found the conversations odd when he was young, but grew to see the pertinence of the information he asked.

(AUGH! I can't come up with much more right now. I know where I want to go with this, but I can't put it in words yet. Sorry guys)

Canterlot Archives / The Times to Remember
2014 Feb 08, 10:35:29
Idea
This is a simple enough concept, but difficult with its implementation. The idea is to live out some of your life and react to situations that I throw at you. So, you now, a RP. The difference is, the end goal is to have it all be written out in a story!
I have a list of about a dozen or so events that could occur whenever, a couple of time specific ones, and a few I particularly enjoy. Mostly it is normal-ish things, while some is more, ah, drastic.

Stipulations
Note! As it is a story about the OC's, I would have to ask you to post decent amounts to whatever you are doing. A simple, *follows* doesn't create very good story. If nothing else, you can write what they might be thinking about. Also, try keeping conversation with the Mane 6 / Canonical Characters to a short. They are difficult to correctly represent in writing. Remember, to them, you are that one pony (exception being Pinkie, she probably knows you pretty well) This would probably start in and around Ponyville, and go where ever people go. If a small group wants to go to Canterlot Central, but the rest want to stay, No problem. You are not all forced to stay in one area. This will probably start with 4 people.

Name: Lumi
Age: 23
Gender: Male
Species: Earth Pony
Appearance: A soft coat the color of new grass, and young fields, slightly overgrown perhaps, but not terribly so. His mane, falling down to his withers and curling to the side of his face, held a soft light to it. It looked akin to  being that of the color of the pages from a well loved, but old, book. Despite his mane having a bit of a poof, it was only due to a gently frizz it always seemed to suffer from. His tale was probably the most ragged of him though, being a little ruffled here and there, and a little short of a cut, but still maintained that soft color of his mane
Personality: Hopeful, Optimistic
Cutie Mark: A Small Carved Tree
Talent: Carving
Bio: Lives a block or two from the train station where he works. Loves telling stories, and hearing them. Simple past.

Introductions Archive / Hello ... again.
2014 Jan 06, 17:11:12

Original Characters / Balmy Spume
2013 Aug 22, 19:35:15
Name: Balmy Spume
Nickname: Balm
Gender: Mare
Age: 28
Species: Earth Pony
Appearance: A smooth coat like that of warm milk cream, and of similar hue. Her mane is almost always held back in a ponytail falling lightly on her shoulder and above her brow, colored that of sea foam lit by the morning rays of sun. Whenever it was unbound though, it still lightly graced her shoulder, but reached forward and to her sides in soft waves. Her tail suffered no better in its ripples, but it fared far better, as it fell about her slightly above her pastern.
Eyes:  A soft burnt umber color
Cutie Mark: A halfway carved pony of soap
Special Talent: Carving Soap
Personality:  An eternal hopeful with enduring promise. She strives to be courteous to all, and only rude when absolutely necessary . She enjoys the simple things in life, and goes about with a lilting grin. In short: a mild and civil mare.
Speech Color: Like So
Home/Residence: Born a few miles north of Trottingham, Lives a mile or two out of Ponyville
Occupation: Soap and Shampoo Maker
Likes: Cleanliness, Those of good cheer, and Pancakes
Dislikes: Arrogance and Impatience

Bio:  Balmy had what could be called a nice upbringing. She didn't particularly want for much when she was young, except to experience life to the fullest. All of this changed though, when she went to a place dreaded by fillies and colts alike: School. Now, to be certain, the problem wasn't with school itself you see. It was that she wanted something, but couldn't get it, no matter how hard she tried. It wasn't that she wanted that cute little dress with soft velveteen lattice lace woven into about the edges it that the other girls envied, though she did wish to have it something awful at times. Nor was it that she was bad in school, in fact, she was quite good, particularly in science. It wasn't even to get a seat by the cutest colt in the room, and while she wasn't trying to get it she wasn't opposed to it, not that she would ever tell.

No, what she wanted, truly wished for from the deepest part of her heart, was for her cutie mark. She had been dreaming about what it would be ever since her teacher had done a lesson on them. Maybe it would be something soft, like how fathers' was a teddy bear! Or maybe it would something caring, like how mothers' was a bed from the hospital. She was enraptured with the very idea of it.

However, as it happens she, along with all others with that wish, had it granted, in time. To the point, she got it where she learned of its wonders, at school. It was during art, when they were working on a soap carving activity. Most of the class had gone about the typical routes, fish and birds were done in droves, even a few rabbits by the more adventurous, and an egg by a rather unimaginative fellow, but Balmy still slaved away at her first chunk of soap. Despite Balmy looking like she was in bliss, the teacher was a bit worried about her. She came over to check on her, only to find her working on a meticulously crafted sculpture of a pony. So well done was it, that she would later say that she could see hints of a little lattice dress on it, but tales only grow longer with time so how much of that is true is up for debate.

As is common when the young do great things, she was lauded with praise by her teacher, and she was ecstatic. Understand, her cutie mark, which she had wanted for(a few months)ever was finally there upon her, literally. The rest of the day, she practically floated on air. So, as school drew to the close, she, as children are prone to, immediately bolted off to home, worrying the teacher terribly. As she neared her home, her excitement rose to the maximum her tiny body could hold. Unfortunately for her, and the door, so did her momentum. A single fleeting though of "I should stop"  before she smacked into the door doing ninety. She was still dazed when her father checked to see who was assailing there suburban home. Still, even the law of conservation of energy failed to hold back a filly with a new cutie mark, nor can unsuspecting fathers, as they both soon found. When they finally righted themselves, she was only too happy to tell of the day she had. Elated from the excess euphoria that was exuding of his daughter, and in that rush he made a rash and unwise decision. He asked her what she wanted to do now.

She stopped dead in her tracks, now faced with a idea she hadn't yet though of; The Goal After. Well, she thought, I really liked carving that pony, so that would be awesome! But... we don't carve soap in school much at all. And it was so fun too! All of this passed within a mere blink of an eye, and in that blink, she began to cry. Her father was terrified. He managed to in a single sentence ruin her entire day, the very day she got her cutie mark, was marred by him. Quickly recovering his frayed nerves and asked her why she was crying, she was so happy before! Over the next couple minutes, and several cookies, she managed to eck out that she couldn't carve soap much at all, entirely different from the other colts and fillies that used there talents every day. It was in the midst of this that he made, yet again, a rash and unwise decision. He asked himself, How hard could it be to make soap? He would live to regret those words.

Balmy, as of yet unaware of the concept of a rhetorical question, looked up at him in awe and inspiration. It was now that he lived to regret those words. Needless to say, when her mother arrived to see her daughter in the workshop out back, surrounded by old grimy books(rented from the library) slowly stirring a large black cauldron on a low flame, with her husband nowhere in sight, she was concerned. After her husband came back from local herb store, she began to calmed her down. When all was well in the world in the sight of mother, it was set up for Balmy to work with her father for a time, learning some less "bookish" lessons, and working on creating, and carving soap.

It was slow going but over the next few years, she got better. To her, those years passed as a blur. She learned much from school, but she most enjoyed learning from her fathers shop. He was the one that taught her that sometimes the greatest works come from patience and determination. And so it was with her. While the rest of the students were worrying over certain crop patterns, she was trying to figure out how much sap she would put in her soap. When they were seeing constellations, she was seeing carving patterns. They saw homes, she saw bath houses. Salons? Herbal Soap. Tests? ... Well, she still saw tests.

Finally, a most glorious day arrived. That day that teachers love almost as much as students. Graduation Day. When she walked across that stage one last tie, she almost laughed, it seemed so strange. She worked all that time, "For a paper?" she thought. It seemed almost anti-climactic. Unannounced to her, her parents had a surprise waiting for her. When she cleaned up and went to them, they were practically fit to burst with suspense. When they reached their home, she was confused by the small shop-like cart by the house. The market wasn't until next week, why would a empty stall ... be ... here? When she asked her mother about it, she laughed, only saying "It's your graduation gift!"

She was stunned! She was wanting to set out sooner or later selling her soap and such, and was even saving up for a portable stall, but, this! It was simply amazing! Hugging her family, she told them there was no rush, and she still needed some time to finalize a couple balances.

She held a part time job with the local spa for the next three months, earning some for the future shop, and a place to land. When the time finally came for her to leave, she was conflicted about the prospect. While it is what she wanted to do, it was still leaving family. She vowed to write daily, and still does.

Why do I know all this? Well, It was that day that I met her on this train, and I still see her every now and again. Yes, she told me all this when we were stuck with a rail problem going to Canterlot. Ah well. Oh? Well, This is your stop, isn't it? Ah well, you know where to find me if you get a good story. I'll see you around.

Finally finished this one, tell me what you think!

Hello everypony! This will be the first of a couple of discussion posts I've been working on.

I know everyone is worried/hesitant/surprised by alicorn Twilight, and I am too, but it brings some interesting points into light.

What about an alicorn is different?
How did they become them?
and/or
Where did they come from?

Note: The and/or is from the fact that Celestia "made" Twilight an alicorn, so it is semi-logical to conclude that alicorns can "create" other alicorns. However if that is so then there had to be a first alicorn to make the "new" alicorn.

Secondary Note: Everything beyond this is my opinion and semi-logical conclusions

Alright, so for tackling the first question, What makes them different?

Yes, naturally there is the fact that they are alicorns and, there by, have pegasus wings and a unicorn horn. However both Celestia and Luna are, well, rather aged. However we know , I think it was Nicole Oliver who told us, that Twilight will not outlive her friends. This brings up a problem. How can one alicorn live longer than another by a measure untold? This presents three rather interesting possibilities.
1. There are different types of alicorns
2. The elements of harmony have an after effect of making anyone who uses them immortal
3. Twilight Dies
Now, for the sake of not having Applejack watch all of her family perish, or Pinkie Pie realizing that she will watch everyone she knows, loves, and understands die, we can probably rule out the second possibility. As for the third option, that is a nigh on impossibility.
Therefore, we can probably deduce that there are different types of alicorns. However, this creates a question.

What divides the types of alicorns?

To this, I believe I have a solution. The answer would be, how they became an alicorn.
To make this conclusion, there are two main points of development.
The first point comes from the Harths Warming Eve's story and its wrap up of Celestia and Luna. Now, the story is of how Equestria came to be, and I will assume you know it. The main point we will need to gather though, is that Celestia and Luna did not yet exist. This can be determined by the unicorns raising and lowering the sun and the moon, which is now one of their jobs. So, we can determine that they came along after the founding of Equestria. This would make them have to be born during the period of time in which ponies were learning to not just cooperate because they had to, but they wanted to. Then look at it from this perspective, what if they were born alicorns? What better way to help inspire a feeling of unity between what was once rival races, than by holding behind these children of all of the races? It could be seen as a product of their unity. And what better way to have a equal balance of power among the races by having these prodigious children rule? I think it is pretty easy to see how that could have occurred, IF they were born alicorns. And as they still rule to this day, I believe it can be made a semi-logical jump to that they were in fact born alicorns.

(Note: To stem the inevitable question about the banner, It was probably the closest banner that Celestia and Luna had that represented unity to the ponies of that age. For example, while the USA celebrates Independents Day, they don't dust off their old Thirteen colonies era flag to wave about)

The second point is Cadence. During the flashbacks with her and Twilight, and most importantly Shining Armor, they were much younger. More to the point, Shining Armor and Cadence were approximately the same size. Also, during the present time in Equestria, they are approximately the same size still. This is important because of Celestia and Luna. While it is rather safe to say they are only a few years apart, Celestia is quite a bit taller than Luna, who is a little bit taller than Cadence. Now, while Luna was stuck on the moon for a few centuries (10 in fact) Celestia continued to grow. So, in a millenium, Celestia only grew yea much more than Luna. This can lead us to the conclusion that they grow at different rates than normal ponies. While, in fact, Cadence doesn't.

While neither of these points directly prove that there different types of alicorns, it leaves a pretty solid case for it.

Now, back to the original question of how they are different, that has split into two, how are both types of alicorns different?
Born Alicorns, from this, it can be gathered that beside having wings and a horn, they grow at a much slower rate, and are ageless.
"Made" Alicorns, it can be gathered, grow at the normal rate, and aren't ageless.

As for the second/third question, I've kind of explained what I think on most of it. I think Celestia and Luna were both born alicorns, while we know that Twilight was made an alicorn, and I believe Cadence to be made an alicorn.
This brings two questions though, Why were Celestia and Luna born alicorns, and Why was Twilight and Cadence made into alicorns?
Twilight is easy, it was because of her mastery of friendship that Celestia found fit to make her an alicorn, for the betterment of all of Equestria.
Celestia and Luna are harder to pinpoint. I think it was as the unity of the three races, and a sharing of their inherit magic, and probably some deep magic from the sun and moon, that allowed in them being born as alicorns.
Cadence is hardest of all. I honestly have no idea how a filly could have done something so great to be of use to the entire kingdom with love of all things at such a young age. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of love, but love is such a strange and vague term that absolute mastery of it as Twilight did magic is astounding and astronomical accomplished.

That's all I have on this, What do you guys think?

Original Characters / A Simple OC
2013 Apr 04, 23:32:17
Let's launch at this eh?

Name: Lumi
Gender: Stallion
Age: 23
Species: Earth Pony
Appearance: A soft coat the color of new grass, and young fields, slightly overgrown perhaps, but not terribly so. His mane, falling down to his withers and curling to the side of his face, held a soft light to it. It looked akin to  being that of the color of the pages from a well loved, but old, book. Despite his mane having a bit of a poof, it was only due to a gently frizz it always seemed to suffer from. His tale was probably the most ragged of him though, being a little ruffled here and there, and a little short of a cut, but still maintained that soft color of his mane.
Eyes: A soft amber
Cutie Mark: A small carved wooden tree
Personality: A slow and eternally hopeful child at heart. He adores a good story, loves in retelling them, and has gotten pretty good at the art of storytelling. He often struggles with those who try to assert themselves as better, and is confused by those who act simply on a whim.
Home/Residence: He was raised on the outskirts of Fillydelphia, but now he lives just a block or two from it's train station. However, as he was lucky enough to attain a job working on the trains, he isn't home often.
Occupation: Server/Sweeper for the Equestrian Transit System
Likes: Stories, Kind ponies, Slow actions, Thinking before Leaping, Listening
Dislikes: Loud ponies, Arrogance

General Bio (Only slightly adjusted for differing RPs):
Living a calm little life in Fillydelphia, Lumi enjoyed learning about the old stories of the old heroes and legends. He was always a little behind the others in school and such, but he tried to not let it bother him. However, when it came to the old history, he excelled. Often he was caught up in fanciful thoughts of times long gone by. As such, he often had "adventures" of his own, chasing the pirating pidgins away, challenging his friends to duels, ending far too often with someone having a black eye or several scrapes and bruises, and everyone with milkshakes. Milkshakes, those things, he wouldn't trade for all the pirate battles in the world.
However, when it was announced that they would do a project on something they enjoyed, and present it to the class, he decided to actually launch himself at these projects. He spent hours slaving over a simple wooden plank, eventually getting it to look like a good, old fashioned sword of wood. Then, a terror befell him. What good was fine weapon, if your armor fell apart at the touch?
Needless to say, a good week or so later when a full, colt sized, armor suit and exceptionally laden colt inside them arrived to school, the school teacher was surprised.
Since that fateful day, whenever he was stressed, or when he had an idea for pieces that would add to stories impact when they were told, he would work tirelessly at creating miniature ponies for his stories. He loved carving them, after all, stories are magnificent, but they are still incorporeal, as opposed to his wooden works, born from the sweat and tears of his work and that of a tree.
Alas, you can't live of of stories, at least most ponies can't, so he finally settled down to work for the train station. After all, if he couldn't have his own adventures, he could at least see the sights out there and imagine. Fortunately, since he was so filled with wonder, he was always eager and willing to see the world, and they never lost there glory to him. Since then, he has been there, spinning stories of wonder and glory to any willing to only listen.

Introductions Archive / Greetings all!
2013 Apr 04, 19:57:10
Well, as the title says, Hello to all of you! It will be a pleasure to meet you all, and then an awkward few moments when I'm trying to remember why I know you. I hope to see you all here!

Not much to say about me personally, other than the love of reading and chess. And MLP. And puzzles. And rhetorical banters that last far too long than actually needed. Regardless, hi!
