All of her episodes in season 2 were taken over by new characters, or a background character causing shockwave amongst the fanbase

I honestly have to agree with you here; I've seen huge fan bases for all the mane 6 except for AJ 
It's kinda sad actually...(though I must admit AJ isn't my fav either  )

Though, I like her personality. She's hardworking, honest, and she loves her family. I really want her to be more developed! She needs to because even though I don't really like her, she needs some appreciation. Give some love to Applejack too, please?

i think that the difference between her and the other 5 ponies of the mane6 is that she will be always be like the first time you saw her: because it's a simple, happy, apple-lover, honest, friendly pony   Instead, pinkie pie, for example, it's strange and you can't seriously predict her, (like when she goes mad near the end of season one) so, on one side, it's more intresting and can focus the audience more on her
